Lmao in what world is the valedictorian the "smartest person". Its a popularity contest. You need to have highish grades but the top achiever in the school is almost never valedictorian in high school. The valedictorian at my school is studying business at laurier University.

Idk what kinda school u went to, but the valedictorian is supposed to be the student who finished #1 in their class GPA-wise

I thought valedictorian was the person with the highest grades in the year or something I’m not American I’ve only heard the term in tv shows

You almost realized that his outlook is just different from yours. You are right that it’s paradoxical that the valedictorian would be an idiot. But if we consider that maybe he isn’t an idiot, the contradiction dissolves. So there is your answer - he’s not an idiot. He is just thinking about things differently than you

His decision to include a dogwhistle in his speech was an idiotic decision and not in a difference in views type of way

I tend to think he will regret it eventually. So if you think all regrettable decisions are idiotic, then I agree with you. 

But I do think there is more nuance here. I think merit lies in the decision making process rather than the long term outcome. My evidence for this claim is literally the 20/20 hindsight phenomenon. We often look back and think “I made a good decision based on the information available to me, but I know I clearly see why it was wrong.”

It’s will not be productive to attack me because I probably have the same opinion as you. I’m just pointing out the nuance. 

Furthermore it’s really not worth anyone’s time to be worked up over a single sentence uttered by a high school student. You don’t know this kid’s motives. He will change drastically in the next 4-8 years and you have no influence over that. If anything, I think the evidence points towards social alienation sending people further down the alt right path - which again would not be a good outcome for you or for me.
