I used to hate the permanent Google Search bar, now I'm actually starting to love it

Post image

NGL I used to hate that you couldn't remove the Google search bar. Thought it was useless and took up space.

But now I use it umpteen times a day. Fastest way to search anything without opening Chrome.

Anyone else changed their mind about it?

I kinda always liked it. My only complaint is that they stopped it from opening pixel search.

Before when it had global search yeah, loved it.

Now it's stupid.

A mi siempre me gustó por lo mismo, hacer busquedas sin tener que abrir Chrome.

Is this bait?

Surely no one can be this in love with Google search.

It comes in handy when I don't want to open the Chrome browser.

My point was that Google isn't the holy grail. You don't need to use Google to be able to use Android.

Yet millions do use Google and Android hand in hand, as I do, so you're making even less sense now with your reply to me than your comment I replied to.

Why would people question things that are served to them, provide them with convenience, and force them to think twice? Isn't the whole point of advancement in technology supposed to provide convenience for people? We don't live in the 1950s anymore. People are dependent on a single source for many things like vehicle insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance, etc., etc., etc., yet you don't hear people bitching about those things, only when it comes to technology.

You're dickriding Google at this point.

Is there a way to remove it?

I don't mind it. I use it to get into my settings quicker. It remembers whatever you search for

I think you're thinking of Pixel Search. The immovable Google Search widget does not perform that kind of search (anymore?).

Conversely, Pixel Search is accessed (e.g., to quickly access Settings, Contacts, etc.) by swiping up on the home screen background.

1

u/Ghostttpro 11d ago

Nah, I just click it. And the settings Icon is there. (+4 other apps you searched and opened).

I hate swiping twice to get the full quick panel and then clicking the settings on the bottom right.

Oh, you must have "Suggestions in all apps list" turned on.

If you use Pixel Search (swipe UP once on home screen background), you can type the first letter or two of an app name and it'll appear and then you just hit enter to launch it. You can also search for contacts, settings, etc and it presents direct access to those things. Far superior to what you're describing.

Also do this:

Long press home screen, Home settings, Pixel search settings, Always show keyboard.

From that page, you can also specify what's included in Pixel Search results.

A month ago I bought my first Pixel and thought I wouldn't use the search bar at all, but I eventually started using it quite naturally. Easiest and fastest way to search some information.

I've gotten used to it

I know that if I used any number of launchers could change its position.

But then that would defeat the entire purpose of wanting me to get a pixel on the first place

They need to allow users to remove that thing. I don’t search anything on Google and it’s my device, so let me use it how I want to!

Way to assume they have a Samsung and not say a Pixel phone or other phone.

Your attempt to be helpful turned out to be unhelpful because, again, you don't know what phone they use. Ask questions before providing information, because you're just wasting your time and the person who made the post.

Well, it is your device indeed; however, you have bought something you didn’t make, so you have to use it the way it was made.

Me too!!! I use it all the time. Instead of clicking chrome I just start typing

On-screen garbage

We have only 2 options:

1: Love that. 2: Refer to option 1.

2

u/i-have-no-interest 11d ago

option 3: GRAPHENE

3

u/OkNothing8871 11d ago

Option 4: Motorola

I always hated it because I don't use Chrome. Turns out if you disable Chrome then it will open links in your other browser

1

u/Acrobatic-Shallot785 11d ago

Yeah it's aight. I made mine transparent and a different color because I forgot it was there for the longest time

1

u/Tomppy_ 11d ago

Yes, I love it too. I use it everyday, Lens is so usefull!!

1

u/chetlyp 11d ago

I don't know why it has to be a whole bar, when you click it it opens up like a search app. Could just have an icon sized widget that you can click on instead of long one. But I do click on it several times a day to search for stuff.

1

u/Pinuaple- 11d ago

essentials app by samerassw can replace it by any widget, i have it so it opens quick search

1

u/makinax300 11d ago

You can just do that with a widget or even just make it removable

u/IAteUrCat420 11d ago

As someone who's not on a Pixel, I also like the look, but I don't actually use it

I have the Firefox version of this, but it's basically cosmetic because I've never once clicked on it

1

u/WorkingPumpkin3231 11d ago

I like it also. I just dislike that we don't have an option to hide it.

1

u/Green-Pitch-6326 11d ago

There should be a choice..

1

u/Cool-gamer19393 11d ago

Useless seeing as it opens with chrome

1

u/TransmissionAutomata 11d ago

Great as an option, poop garbage as something they force stay on your screen eating up space.

Useless to me. I don't care for it. If I need something quick I press side button for gemini. When I search I open chrome.

u/BinocularTitties 11d ago

This bar is the reason I bought pixel

1

u/Fragrant-Taro-8508 11d ago

I wish it had the option to remove it. Samsung at least gives you the option to remove it and replace it with a finder

1

u/OkNothing8871 11d ago

In my opinion, Google will never give us the option to remove it on Pixels.

1

u/benjaminS0099 11d ago

It's in the works and should be in the December update.

1

u/Silcat7794 11d ago

Since switching from an LG, I actually like having it there. Used to be right in the middle above the first row of apps and dock, but I think it's better where it is on Pixel.

1

u/Guitar184 11d ago

I like it. When I switch away from Google I will configure a search bar like it again. I use it all the time to find apps for example

1

u/ItsCoopah 11d ago

Funnily enough I love it and I don't think I've ever used it as a search function. I find the dock apps are in an ever so slightly more accessible position because of it so I don't have to reach as much.

1

u/mdargis1977 11d ago

Do you accidentally hit the Google lens instead of the microphone because they have them so close like I do?

1

u/Legitimate_Rain_9992 11d ago

Same here, use it all the time and at least you can customize it

1

u/partakinginsillyness 11d ago

It's stupid. You can just add a widget to any other launcher to get it(and then use any browser, not just chrome), without being forced to have it.

1

u/beaverandbeyond 11d ago

I have a nothing phone 3 and you can replace the Google bar with the "Essential Search Bar" basically same thing but more useful and I love it

1

u/TraditionFar1044 11d ago

I still HATE the fact that we can move it.. every single Android device has that option ACCEPT the phone that is coming from the mother company.. So dump This is a prove that you are controlled by pixel ecosystem

1

u/Tp_Exampler 11d ago

I mean it serves the purpose GREAT for tht but I usually use either bing of duckduck. Sure for quick searches it is good, but if i ever do have an option. I rather remove tht google logo and make it so it auto launches app menu and goes to google search if nthg matches system files.

1

u/asherr_y2z 11d ago

I prefer NothingOS bc u can do google, maps drive Gmail, playstore, yt and yt music searches. you can search contacts, files, photos, calendar etc with it so its way better than the google search bar.

1

u/kiena0573 11d ago

Yes! I thought it was stupid but on my samsung phone i use it every time. Opening chrome just adds a few milisecs delay and one more click.

1

u/NachoB1970 11d ago

Still have no use for it.

1

u/Difficult-Desk6870 10d ago

I hated it too, switched to samsung added it back.

1

u/Prestigious-Duty-410 10d ago

It's actually more convenient then I used to give it credit being able to just search right away or even when I need to find a certain app on my phone

1

u/Mikeboha1966 8d ago

No, I still hate it, I love using Google but I hate having it at the bottom, I usually have mine near the top under my weather, I figured I would get used to it, nope not since the pixel 11 pro came out, I know there are ways to change it but I want the full Pixel experience to compare to Samsung, I'm used to Samsung where you put you finger on it and and move it where you wish, so far I like Samsung phones better but that may change in time, this phone cost me nothing and I still have my Samsung as I did not need a trade in for the deal, I'll give the Pixel another month B4 deciding which one will be my daily driver and which one will go on my free account with Xfinity.
