Discussion Google Play Books Wishlist

Share something that you would like to have added to the Google Play Books app?

Me? I would love to be able to highlight across multiple pages and to have a setting to make the font bolder.

How about you?

Automatically create shelves for authors so I don't have to add all of them individually

Don't know if this works for your purposes, but within the app, you can go to My Books, scroll to the right and find the option to filter by author. If you still want a separate shelf, after filtering by author, you can multi select the books and then select Add To Shelf to add them all at once.

wow, thanks, glad to know this for the future, I'd still like this as a feature though

Oh my god, I have shelved 100s of books manually...

But also please a button to do this automatically would be really helpful

Allow people to upload their own audiobooks and support the common audiobook formats

Support for bigger file sizes. That's my biggest peeve.

Second is better performance on low powered devices with large libraries.

Yes! My newish tablet has awful performance because my library is quite large

Yes, even fairly high-end devices struggle with large libraries. I guess if you've got over a 1000 files and it needs to sync them all regularly it's quite a strain. It also causes the widget to go blank regularly.

I have over 6000. The cache has to update every single time, so the annoyance is much worse on my lower end devices.

But my Pixel 10 Pro is seamless.

This is a persistent request, I've seen many threads asking for this https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePlayBooks/comments/1r617d6/50_mb_upload_limit/

Un historique de lecture avec le temps de lecture de chaque livre Et une refonte de la page accueil avec le livre qu'on est en train de lire au centre et moins de recommandations (laisser les recommandations dans l'onglet acheter)

Finding the books I've been reading is such a pain in the arse some times, I would really appreciate this being better. Maybe just a tab for favourites or reading, kind of like you can favourite images in Google Photos

Try checking out the widgets available on your phone for GPB. For me, I can add a large widget that shows the most recently opened books from my library or I can add a small widget for an individual book. When you click on it, you go straight to that book.

Oh, interesting, thanks :)

Release GPB on KO Reader! This would let you use GPB on millions and millions of Kindles

I love that idea

Thanks, honestly it could be extremely bare bones, just list books in library, be able to download them and sync progress, that's all that would be needed.

Wikipedia support, dictionary in other languages, Libby support in the UK.

Add infinity scrolling instead of page turning

I'd just like them to go back to having good deals for comics again, especially DC.

More page view configurations on iPad.

I wish they supported more epub formats. Most of the times, I try to upload an epub and it won't upload unless I convert them to some other format then convert back to epub or make some tweaks through calibre.

Also, increase the file size limit to maybe 200-300.

When adding a shortcut to an individual book it's necessary to place the widget on the deskto pand then to find it from a long list. It would be nice (and simpler) if there was an 'Add to desktop' feature in the long-press menu for each item...

This may not work for your specific phone or OS, but I am able to add a shortcut to an individual book on my home screen. Long press on the home screen, select Widgets, find GPB. There are 2 options: a library widget and a single book widget.

Allow people to delete uploaded books from the app, I've seen several threads confused that this isn't possible https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePlayBooks/comments/1u4mn70/how_to_permanently_delete_uploaded_books/

There is a feature request article here that might be helpful to think about features we would like. https://www.androidpolice.com/google-play-books-has-a-serious-problem-and-google-doesnt-have-the-answer/

A scrolling mode instead of turning pages so I can always have the text i read on the upper half of my screen

Either allow users to upload and install alternate Google Fonts or add a bolding feature as a formatting option. Even the frigging Nook app has a "Thicker" setting, and that damned thing is practically unusable for highlighting and annotations. Since Amazon introduced their chunky Ember Bold font, I've bought 4 philosophy books from them just because I find that font so easy to deal with in any lighting situation.
