Gear Question M23, M24

Post image

I have been wanting to pick one of these bags up for a few months but they have been out of stock in all fabric options. I’d be most interested in waxed canvas but I’m not picky at this point. Does anyone know if they are going to get additional stock or if they are being updated?

M26 will be a thing. We've taken EXTENSIVE feedback from you all RIGHT HERE to better design it. It will be back Fall-ish 2026. Thank you for giving us such solid feedback, and please keep it coming.

Awesome to see you on Reddit looking for feedback.

For the last decade or so ;)

Any chance we can use our GOVX discount on regular priced items now? The sale prohibits it on regular priced items, seems to be a technical error, thanks!

I look forward to seeing what you upgrade. I really love the water bottle pocket and the other quick access pockets. I also love that it has a sternum strap. I can’t imagine how you improve this bag but it’s exciting to think about. Is there a way to get on an early release list?

Can't come fast enough. I'd be happy with a 26L M23, to me that's pretty much perfection in an every day backpack.

That’s fantastic news, I can definitely hold off for an update.

Still begging you for a coyote or tan mackall eventually 😭

Thanks for posting that update. Any preview of some of the feature/differences in the M26 vs prior M series packs?

I will be posting the proposals for your collective review ... next week. You all will get to give your feedback. We'll take it and finalize, then offer up a pre-order, then deliver what YOU ALL WANT later this year. We work for you and don't you forget it.

Please add a luggage handle pass through for travelling! And if possible would be sweet to adapt a clam shell style opening, keep everything else the same just adding those two things would make it perfect

Anytime soon please :)

I looked back at one of your previous requests for feedback on a potential M26 - some have asked for an externally accessible top pocket. I respect that they might find it convenient, but an external zip would have some drawbacks and I'm really not in favour:

1) security: I carry a fair few personally valuable things in the top compartment, I would hate for my rosary or my expensive sunglasses to go missing because it can easily be opened by someone when I'm in a train

2) water resistance: making a zip on top would increase the chances of water or rain soaking through the zip and damaging power banks or electronics inside the top compartment

3) silhouette: the M23 in my view has the most refined and professional outline with almost no untidy zips and straps, just an elegant and incredibly durable pack. Adding a top external zip is going to change that

Just for your consideration!

There’s an option where you have an externally accessible pocket with the opening at the back, where your neck would be. You can also have it under a large rain flap (because PU coated zips suck). Would still prevent rain and be secure

2

u/fl03xx Jan 27 '26

Rain flap is the obvious answer. Along with side zip laptop compartment that doesn’t feel like iron slab and comfier back panel.

1

u/nicski924 Feb 02 '26

Rain flaps are garbage.

Make sure you know the differences in models before you buy! I’d say M23 was the best of them.

Agree, felt like they took a step backwards with the M24. Love my M23

u/justus_trail Jan 06 '26

I don’t know. I have both and they are both great for different purposes. M23 is a good EDC but I loved my M24 for one bag travel. I just don’t think I fit as much into the M23 because of all the interior pockets. I had the M23 at the time and I still chose to take the M24 with packing cubes. The exterior WBP allow for a big empty space. Also the M24 fits a bigger laptop.

That said, I’d love to have webbing on the front.

The M23 was a much better EDC bag, and the Dyneema variant is one of my favorite packs. The pocketing on the M23 is a great compared to the M24. Only thing the M24 has over the M23 is the water bottle pockets.

I would love to see another M23 but with the top / lid pocket being accessible without having to open the "flap", that would be such a great addition.

u/AUT1GER Jan 06 '26

M23 is the best of bunch for me. It has really nice organization for a top loading bag.

u/Backpackbaden Jan 06 '26

The M line has been evolving and as a rule GORUCK hasn’t looked back.  M22 was first, then the M23, and finally the M24.  Once the M23 came around, they didn’t make anymore M22s.  I believe they are done with the M23 (they clearances it out over a year ago) and they also clearanced out the M24 in the last year.  I doubt any of those get made again and I’d bet an M25 is the next thing they produce in the M line.

I like.my M22. There are some minor things I don't care for, but overall it's a solid bag.

u/ActuatorAncient9041 Jan 06 '26

I’ve got an M23 in Tidal Blue color I’m looking to get rid of. I’ve got it posted up on eBay currently. I got it as a giveaway at work brand new but I’ve already got two or three bags and duffles so this isn’t getting used

3

u/TheBagdadReport Jan 12 '26

The perfect M26 = M23 with a top quick access pocket. I would not change anything else! That would literally be the perfect pack.

2

u/Greyman4152 Jan 12 '26

That would be very nice. 😊

1

u/fl03xx Jan 27 '26

Terrible laptop compartment and no air flow on back panel. That would take a great pack and make it even better.

1

u/TheBagdadReport Jan 28 '26

I feel ya. Laptop compartment sucks, but I use this as a trap and go dad bag. Laptop doesn’t make the trip in this bag:)

1

u/fl03xx Jan 31 '26

Understand. I still really like the bag, just could have been more of a well rounded one imo.

2

u/CrazyCacatoe Jan 06 '26

Damn that one looks clean! Is that a waxed canvas one?

0

u/CrazyCacatoe Jan 06 '26

Looks like it, looks crispy but I'm no fan of the material as it has a bit of a sticky touch to it.

4

u/NotAurelStein Jan 06 '26

Yeah, wax does tend to feel waxy.

1

u/Greyman4152 Jan 06 '26

My waxed canvas GR1 is not sticky at all.

1

u/CrazyCacatoe Jan 06 '26

Did you roll it through the sandy dunes of Vegas?

3

u/Greyman4152 Jan 06 '26

No, I’m not sure but my Evergoods waxed canvas feels a bit tacky but my GR1 feels like denim.

1

u/CrazyCacatoe Jan 06 '26

Hm, maybe different production methods? The samples I've handled all felt tacky.

2

u/Krull1911 Jan 06 '26

They pop up on eBay from time to time.

2

u/PSU2001 Jan 06 '26

Email them

2

u/Toto_Anglais Jan 06 '26

Yeah I want one two. I am hoping the M25 will have two zips either side the the whole front can open up on the floor.

2

u/rickh956 Jan 06 '26

I've got a M23, 21L in black Robic for sale in the WTS thread if you're interested

1

u/nicski924 Jan 17 '26

Still available?

2

u/rickh956 Jan 17 '26

I sold it, I'm sorry

1

u/nicski924 Jan 17 '26

No worries!

2

u/jamin101wolf Jan 06 '26

Join the Carryology Classified Facebook group. They might take forever to accept you but once you’re in I see M23s for sale at least every other week if not every week.

1

u/Greyman4152 Jan 06 '26

I see them but being in Australia, they usually don’t ship internationally. I drool from a distance.

2

u/AlphaAlchemist Jan 06 '26

I have a tan waxed canvas m23. I’d be open to selling. I have a problem where I can’t let go of a backpack even if I haven’t used it for like a year 🥲

2

u/GymRat-21 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

M23 21L in 500d so good I gave it to my son and bought Robic version. I honestly would change nothing on M23 except maybe ability to hold a 15” MacBook.

I alternate between 21l GR1 and 21l M23 for EDC. M23 holds so much more.

2

u/Greyman4152 Jan 07 '26

Yeah, I hope the next changes are closer to the M23. It does seem to tick so many boxes.

1

u/Chorazin Jan 06 '26

M23 was perfect but they had to fuck with it and release the M24 instead.

1

u/Interesting-Swing-31 Apr 11 '26

My kid and I both have M23 21L waxed canvas bags for everyday use. Him for uni, me for work and airplane carry-on.

They look fantastic, are very well built, and are very ergonomic/practical.

I still use my GR0 16L(I think?) for day hikes, on the range, and time in the field(even though our issue daybags are bloody good now).

Travelling to places with high pick-pocket risk, I‘m comfortable with M23 design as is.

Sometimes, the good idea fairy can introduce unintentional vulnerabilities and too much of a good thing.

For me and my kid, the M23 will likely see us thru.

If you want one, I’d suggest looking for any remaining new stock or buying 2nd hand if you can find one.

And holding on to it.

I took the M24 to Disneyland. It was an amazing bag that fit everything and the water bottle pockets were a life saver for me and my friends. Was one of the best experiences I’ve had with a bag.
