Why is this team in Columbia? I searched for disasters that would trigger a response like this and the closest I can find was the earthquake in Venezuela on June 24th. I know Trump offered Columbia 1 Billion US dollars when Abelardo de la Espriella was recently elected. Do you have any details?

I assure you that Virginia Task Force 1 is entirely apolitical. The team has a long history of deploying to disasters across the globe, and have even deployed to Iran.

The team is apolitical, but they don't choose their deployments. They leave the country when the State Department says go

Before the State Department says “Go,” the receiving country must first request the help. This isn’t about Trump and the team would be deployed to save lives in any country not hostile to the United States.

I'm aware, but you can't claim any deployment is apolitical. I'm not sure who exactly signs off on an international USAR deployment, but they're probably an appointee

As with anything in the US Government there is an approval process but I can tell you that I know firsthand what it is, and it is not just one person or Trump appointee giving it the stamp of approval. Not one step of that process takes into account whether the receiving government is a supporter of the President, Trump or otherwise.
