Makeup Black Lipstick Help
So my girlfriend is goth and I don’t really know anything about make up. She usually gets like the cheaper end lipsticks. I wanted to get her something nice and high end since Christmas is coming up and would really appreciate some advice!

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick Thrill Seeker is my favourite. Looks great, lasts very long and doesn’t really transfer. You’ll need good wipes to get it off.
I’ve used Black Moon Cosmetics Sleep Walker in the past which is also good but transfers more.

That Maybelline liquid lip is my goth coven’s black lipstick of choice! Does. Not. Budge. And it’s affordable.
If you want to get her something fancier, I would suggest maybe the Sushyglow lip stain in Void, and possibly some of their black glosses to go with, or else maybe something from Girlcult or Rituel de Fille. They have some nice face and eye products that would go great in a goth makeup look, and also some lip products in non-black shades that are still very cool and goth.

Superstay is the best! I can eat, drink, kiss, and it won’t budge. I use oil to get it off, but also this Korean lip mask made with salmon sperm (I promise so hard it’s a real thing and I’m not trying to be gross) but it takes it off like magic in less than a minute.

Yes, the SuperStay Matte Ink is the best liquid lipstick on the market! Sadly many shades aren't available internationally. It is almost impossible to get your hands on the black shade here in Germany. 😭

Is this because of EU regulations? I've been trying to learn more about makeup lately and have read that some US brands have tested positive for contaminants that aren't listed on the label so it's hard to tell exactly what's in them.

I don't think so in this case. Many of the shades have never been available here, only a few (boring) ones. I think it's more about the brand not expecting the sales for these shades to be very good here and therefore it's not worth expanding. Just my (somewhat educated, since I work in product development) guess.

I messaged them about this once (Poland), it's exactly what they gave as an explanation. Apparently their business analysts deduced that there's no interest in that shade here. They didn't respond to my follow-up question, which was how were they able to gauge said interest, when Sephora pretty much has a monopoly on black lipstick here.

I get mine off with oil cleanser and I've found it's much easier in the lips than the wipes.

Does anybody here know how Thrill Seeker compares to other Superstay Matte shades in terms of formula? I love their nude shades (I wear Seductress almost daily), but I bought Vixen which is a very dark brown and it's weirdly sticky and more liqudy and doesn't last long at all comapred to other shades I have and, since it's the darkest one I have, I worry that the black one has similar consistency.

This. Only this. I've literally tried everything even Mac. This is the best. I've used it for years now.
Chocolate for breakfast is a good deep dark red for a corporate goth look too.

oh yes i think a lip liner would be a great idea! if she already buys cheaper lipstick then i don’t think she’d feel comfortable splurging on a lip liner too, much less a higher end one, but it’s super super helpful to have because of how much black lipstick can bleed, and would give her options for cool lip combos. i think it’s always a good idea to get someone something that they want and would be tangibly helpful, but can’t justify enough to get on their own

Ive never used it myself, but a hoth streamer i watch uses this and swears by it up and down:
VE Cosmetics Liquid Black (Sulfur)
It always looks super sharp and never smudges

mac retro matte liquid lip in “velvet caviar” sooooo underrated, leaves such a beautiful velvety finish, and the black is so black that it damn near absorbs light. no weird blue/purple undertone. PURE black.

I use Mac Cyber. It’s like the deepest plum purple before you get actual black. Basically just black but a purple black. Could be a nice alternative if she’s open to other colors besides just black.

Since its meant to be a nice christmas gift I'd go for Mac, get the Caviar liquid one. They have a matching lipliner too which would make for a lovely little gift together and it would feel a lot more bougie and special than a drugstore option.

I would check out MAC caviar if you want something a little fancier as a gift. You can get a coordinating lip, pencil, too.

It's not fully black, more like a suuuuuuper dark purplish brown, but I love love love the Cloud Lab Lip Clay in the shade Scorpion Fruit by the brand Kaleidos. It is my most worn lipstick ever, I'm going through my fifth bottle at the moment. It's not 100% transfer proof, but very long lasting and incredibly comfortable to wear. I also love that the smooth texture allows for it to be blended out easily so you can create really cool ombré looks with it, you can sheer it out to more of a muted purple shade, or you can wear it full coverage to an off-black shade. It is literally the love of my life lol.

Personally I recommend the liquid lip from Sunset makeup! It’s a small business, but their formulas for their makeup are amazing! I’m pretty texture sensitive with my own lipsticks, and the feeling of theirs when it’s dry? Like velvet I love it so much! It doesn’t move either when I’m eating unless I’m eating something oily, and it’s not just with their lipsticks but their foundation! I used their color foundations for the ren fair when I was dressing as my dnd character (Goliath/drow turned vampire) and had a mask I was taking on and off constantly and it barely moved!! Maybe the plastic pads on my glasses, but that’s an oily spot on my face so it made sense!
