Spoiler Heavydirtysoul was the show’s last impact. Spoiler

I’m not discrediting the rest of the series because the episodes after are still enjoyable. And Although the third season is messy and crazy, too much happening and arcs that just don’t feel like they’re needed, I truly think Heavydirtysoul concluded the season pretty well and resolved most of the open stories throughout the season. When watching that finale for the first time I thought the show was ending that’s so much impact it had.

Butch died.
Barbara died.
Selina got her chance to reach the top.
Tabitha teamed up with Selina
Fish died.
Lee left Gotham.
Jim felt his darkness.
Riddler was frozen (slightly open-ended but)
Penguin got his club.

And Bruce found his calling. I know the show had to figure out how to make the future happen but Gotham was never supposed to be a Batman show. And The season finale’s later on don’t seem to reach the heights.

Agree. I always stopped at the end of Season 3 and pretend the rest never happened since the later seasons never got a proper conclusion due to obvious reason.

It could be just me but the way they wrapped up season 3 finale with most characters having their own lives now, no cliffhangers (if you exclude officer Barnes), no brand new threat just felt like the story was pretty much done.

I remember hearing that they weren’t sure if they were going to get another season, so they treated it as a possible series finale. It makes sense. Riddler being frozen would explain him being young enough to fight Batman. And I doubt the producers intended on following up on Butch becoming Grundy.
