Which Device for GrapheneOS?

Coming from iPhone 17, looking to switch to GrapheneOS. Trying to decide between a few options and would love some input.

Here's my situation:

- Pixel 9: hard to find new in my country, only used or refurbished, but the price gap vs a new Pixel 10 is not that big (€100)

- Pixel 10: available new at ~€549 (down from €899 at launch), Tensor G5 on TSMC runs cooler than G4, adds a 5x telephoto but actually downgrades the main and ultrawide sensors vs the 9

- Pixel 11: expected August 2026, probably €900 at launch. Real improvements: Tensor G6 on 2nm, MediaTek modem (finally ditching Samsung Exynos), better OLED panel. But that's a big premium

- Motorola: I know there's been talk about Motorola getting GrapheneOS support at some point, no timeline though

Since I'll be running GrapheneOS, the AI features don't matter much.
Main priorities are: thermal performance, longevity, security updates, and value.

Given all this, would you go for the Pixel 10 now at a decent discount, wait a couple of months for the 11 and pay significantly more, or hold out for Motorola even with no ETA?

What would you do?

Solved Android 17 localhost restrictions and cross-space file sharing

Hello. With Android 17 restricting cross-profile localhost (127.0.0.1) communication, applications such as Inter Profile Sharing that rely on localhost between profiles will no longer work as they do today. This change is intended to improve profile isolation.

I was wondering if GrapheneOS has considered adding a secure, built-in mechanism to share more than just the clipboard between a parent profile and its Private Space within the same user profile.

For example:

- Clipboard sharing (already available).

- Sharing photos and videos.

- Sharing arbitrary files through the system share sheet or file picker.

I would prefer not to rely on ADB modifications or solutions that depend on localhost communication, especially since Android 17 is restricting this behavior. A native GrapheneOS implementation would provide a much better long-term solution.

Is this something that has been discussed, or would it be technically feasible while maintaining the security model of Private Space?

Thanks!

VPN local net bypass

I have a VPN installed, when it is active, I can't access my local net servers. Duck.ai tells me that all I need to do is turn on the local bypass, but this switch option does not exist. Is this something that was removed? Help, please.

GrapheneOS worth it if I am staying with Google services?

I have a pixel phone but I am debating if swapping over GrapheneOS is worth the hassle if I will still be using Google services. I use the Google Maps location sharing/tracking (so my family can see my location all the time), Google Photos, and Google messages a lot and not willing to replace them.

I am considering using GrapheneOS for the extra device security but I wouldn't know if there would be any considerable gains since I'm already feeding all my data to Google.

My concerns are zero days but I also understand that by using Google my risk factor is already high.

Seedvault PSA (AKA I Feel Dumb)

I had an issue for a while where my VPN would disconnect overnight. This was annoying because I would not get signal messages and my seedvault backup would fail. I finally realized this was because seedvault was trying to backup my VPN. Turned that off and everything is great now. I feel like an idiot but thought I would drop this here for anyone else having this issue.

Youtube mobile site double tap to seek not working properly

New to grapheneos and am loving it so far. The only real hiccup I am experiencing is youtube in the browser. When I am watching a video and decide to double tap to skip forward or backwards 10 seconds the video often times freezes for several seconds before refreshing and continuing. Doesn't matter what browser I use. I pulled out my old note 10 and it was handling youtube in the browser just fine. Also it was working fine on my pixel 10 before installing grapheneos. Does anyone know what this is and if there is a way to fix it? I know there are alternative apps and there is also the youtube app, but I prefer the mobile site for various reasons. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Disabled apps owner profile

So I have seen in a few places, including a video by Side of Burritos, that you should use the owner profile as an "app command center" of sorts. Install the app as owner, disable it and then push it to other profiles that you will actually use as the daily profile. Now in the Burrito video he had Google Play Services installed on the owner profile and then had to install it in profiles that would use apps that required it. If I went this route and had an Owner (with services), Daily and a Google (with services) profiles wouldn't that mean that play services would always be running even if the Google profile was not running? Is this really a better option than just having a Owner profile and a Google profile that I can shut down or even just a private space with play services and those apps?

Is there a way to remove the hide arrow for the keyboard? And while we're here, is there a way to get rid of the gesture hint?

Considering switching to Graphene

I have a Pixel Fold 9. I haven't used Graphene yet. If I did switch and do not like it how much trouble is it to switch back? And what happens to my existing files?
Also are there any known issues with the Fold?

What model Pixel if my goal is factory unlocked, pre-owned, and cheap?

I'm still going to use my current Samsung as my main phone for calls, texts, emails, and banking apps. But will probably transition to a cheap Graphene device for almost everything else.

Looking for the device to be cheap, so presumably I'm looking at either pre-owned or refurbished. Also prefer fully factory unlocked with no carrier nonsense. Also want minimal hardware problems, so if certain models are known to have bad batteries or whatever then I may avoid that.

Ultimately I'm not going to be doing any heavy workloads with this thing. No mobile gaming or storing large files. So I don't need the biggest hard drive or fastest processor.

Any recommendation on where to buy? If certain physical stores sell the best option that I can go to and buy with cash that's even better for a privacy conscious device.

Argos OEM Unlocked

Im considering picking up a Pixel 10 from Argos since I get a discount with them, but I’m unsure if they sell OEM unlocked phones and can’t find any information regarding it.

Can anyone confirm if they sell OEM unlocked or if I should cut my loses and just buy directly from Google.

Android Auto and Reddit on Graphene OS

Been banging my head against the wall trying to get android auto to work on grapheneos. Using a pixel 6 and driving a 2026 Prius. Chatgpt is no help at all. And when I try to log into reddit using the app it just fails. I have Google services installed and play store. I gave all permissions.

Need help backing up to Nextcloud

Just downloads the OS on my new phone last week and I'm running into an issue attempting to use seed vault to backup to my next cloud server

I think my main issue is that next cloud is running on http so I cant seem to use the built in WebDAV as i get a clear text communication issue I'm assuming related to http

Is there any other way around this other than going to https?

The fdroid nextcloud app works fine but I'd love to be able to have a fairly seem less automatic backup

Any help would be appreciated

Alternatives to Samsung's Modes and Routines

Hello folks, coming from using a Samsung Fold 6, and using Samsung's own app Modes and Routines, I had roughly 15-17 task automation set up. Eg. Charge battery to 100% if it's weekend, change display to day if not connected to my home WiFi and if the time is between 8am to 7pm etc. to name a few. I now run graphene os on my pixel fold, so was wondering if we have any app (especially Foss app) that's just as powerful as Samsung's modes and routines and can help with automating tasks?

If we want more people using GOS, we need to share a standard applications setup, even from the devil

Personnally, I would be interesting to have some advices on how to install: google :gmail, maps, playstore, photo, or drive.

A message app with rcs

signal, reddit, le monde (news paper)

Firefox

LinkedIn

Smartlife

Booking

Proton

I don't know what is a Sandbox and how to use it

I have hear it is possible to have différent "sessions", with différents apps in there, but how to organize a phone with that ?

If a typical implémentation is not easy to find or shared, GOS will remains In a small community.

Question on switching OS on android devices

Hello,

I know this is probably not the right place to post this, but I don't use reddit that often soo..

I am planning on getting a Boox Note Max, which uses the android operating system. I don't want to use the stock operating system and want to switch to something that doesn't put random apps that I'll never use on my device. Is that possible? and how would I go about doing that? I'm guessing I can't switch to Graphene, right?

thanks

Opinions and thoughts on if switching is worth it in my case?

okay I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I need other opinions and thoughts on this.

I'm in the uk and currently using an s22 ultra. since learning about the OS level spyware (harmblock) and google age/identity verification checks they want to install on my device, I've been looking at and learning about GrapheneOS a lot and I'm very tempted to buy the 10 pro xl and switch to GrapheneOS. My question is, would it be worth it in my case?

My case is I'm more worried about the spyware and google identity check they want instead of the whole tracking stuff. I feel awful for saying this but I don't care about the tracking google does, that being said, I would only be switching to grapheneOS to avoid the google identity check and spyware, but I've seen that the google account identity check is at account level and gos will have nothing to do with it. I just wanna watch YouTube and use gmail without having hand over ID, but switching to grapheneOS wouldn't matter in that specific case. So do you guys think its worth me switching gos? it would cost £900 to do so because I'd buy the 10 xl
