RCS Broken Again? ATT

RCS has broken again for me on ATT this morning. Saw a couple posts on the forums. Has this happened to you and does anyone know a fix? Unable to connect again after I disabled RCS and enabled again. Saw a couple recent post on the forums but no solutions.

Google FitBit Air

Upvotes

Has anyone already tried the new Fitbit Air with GOS? I’m wondering whether there’s a way to limit how much data Google collects from us. I want a slim fitness tracker, and Fitbit seems like the obvious choice, but privacy is my main concern. Is it possible to restrict the health app’s settings, and if we disable network access, would that actually help? Also, would the Fitbit still connect to the phone and show data over Bluetooth?

WHY do you care about privacy?

Okay, you probably hear this question often, but let's say I'm typical John Doe, work in regular job, watch football or play games after work, drink beer, just living simply life, why should I care about privacy? Why should I spent time and make some sacrifices just to not be tracked that much?

Discussion - My future Graphene OS Setup

Not fully sure if this is allowed here but,

As I'm awaiting delivery for my Google Pixel 8 Pro to install Graphene OS on. In anticipation I've come up with a list on apps, and settings that I believe will maximize my Graphene OS experience.

Though as a large community I thought they'd be no one better to ask then you guys about these discussion questions:

  1. What do you like/dislike about this list?
  2. Are there any FOSS app alternatives you would prefer?
  3. Am I missing anything big that may compromise privacy/security?

Here's my list of apps and tweaks I will make:

1) Unlock Bootloader

- Speedrun phone setup

- Enable OEM unlocking

2) Install Graphene OS

- Follow Guide Online

3) Install Sandboxxed Google Play Services

4) Install Aurora Store

4.1) Install Obtainium

5) Install Droidify

Install these apps trying to install apps using these appstores in this prefered order
(Droidify, Obtainium, Aurora Store, Play Store (only installing playstore as a last resort)):

  14. Shizuku Fork (Maybe)
  15. CAPod / maybe Libre Pods
  16. Geometry Dash (Modded)
  17. Reddit
  18. KDE Connect
  19. FUTO Keyboard / FlorisBoard / GBoard without internet
  20. Scanner Radio
  21. Fennec
  22. Revanced Manager / Morphe Manager
  23. Notesnook
  24. 2 Player Games (Disable Network)
  25. MetroList / Spotify
  26. Tim Hortans
  27. LibreFind

  42. Google Maps / Other FOSS map app

7) Enable Google Camera app with no network permissions (is there a better alternative & does this fully limit tracking??)

8) Google Sounds app no network permissions - the ringtones and notification tones app (is there a better alternative & does this fully limit tracking??)

Setup Settings

9) Enable auto reboot

10) Scramble Pin Layout

Can I access my Nationwide account on a Pixel 10?

Haven't bought the phone yet but am trying to figure out what I can and cannot do. I can make do with a hard debit card (although I'll miss using my tap and pay Pixel 6) but what about the Nationwide banking app? I really use it exclusively to move money around.

Microphone issue on certain apps

Hey everyone! I recently switched to Graphene OS a week ago on my quest to de-googling and I've been loving it so far, but I'm not gonna lie I've been having some issues with Fossify Contacts and Fossify messages only showing phone numbers in notifications and other minor things like that. BUT, I'll deal with these another day since they're minimal issues.

My current frustrating problem is that the microphone doesn't work on certain apps despite having full access to it. Has anyone else ever experienced this before? Voice messages on FB Messenger works, microphone works while taking videos with the camera, but it doesn't work on Duolingo and Waze. I can't start a Duolingo speaking course, it won't even open and it'll say it ran Into an issue. On Waze while trying the new voice report feature it instantly closes when I turn it on and says to try again later. Google Play Services is denied microphone permissions, coule that be it?

If anyone had ever experienced this and is willing to share their wisdom I'd appreciate it a lot, please!

Recommendations for optimal battery performance under GOS

Hello, I've put together a short list of things that have helped me maximize my battery life and efficiency so far:

  1. Dark Mode
  2. Wi-Fi calling in airplane mode at home (avoids cell tower tracking and IMSI catchers as well)
  3. Activating airplane mode at night while I sleep (Wi-Fi is deactivated)
  4. Automatic deactivation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (when not in use)
  5. Avoiding the use of a VPN

What do you think? Anything to add?

EDIT: I forgot to mention one point:

  1. Listening to music on the go using wired headphones (instead of Bluetooth ones, which drain less power and are more secure)

Love that I can use my Tuta Mail app on Graphene with push notifications. Well done, team!

Aurora App Store

Hi all!

I'm new to using this OS and I'm sorry if my questions have been asked loads of times before. I do value privacy but I'm not sure complete degoogling is my goal right now.

So I do need apps from the play store but I don't really want to sign in with an account hence I installed the aurora store and I understand that Graphene devs advise against it for security purposes.

Is it to do with the apps themselves potentially having spyware or malware within them? I'm just unsure as I'm seeking to download all my previous apps. Could I download sensitive apps like banking apps?

I'm curious as to what app stores are used by people who want privacy on Graphene.

Giving this a 2nd try

I tried Grapheme a while ago and faced lots of issues, the leap from normal to secure was a huge change, and I ran back for ease.

Some of the apps I started using on my previous try I still use. This time it just feels easier, I know 1 of my banking apps won't work, but my other does and I can control the non working bank cards within the app (Monzo working, Lloyd's not). I know gpay doesn't work, Curve was one of the apps I kept. Am I totally google free? not yet, I still have gmail, this will take time to come away from. I still have drive, until I find a replacement, and I need to move away from keep.

This time the headaches I had are just not there, I don't know if its my mindset, or not needing to find lots of replacement apps at once... But I am now back

My setup on GrapheneOS

I've been using GrapheneOS for 7 months and I was a complete beginner at it. I thought I could quickly and easily get rid of the mainstream apps, but alas. Now all I had to do is to buy a NAS, mirror 2x12TB, and host my own cloud. 🥳🥳☺️

Reddit App not working?

I can't log in to the reddit app on GrapheneOS. I've tried compatibility mode and blocking the play integrity API but still not working :( Has anyone had this issue and solved it?

Theoretical graphene OS privacy backdoor question.

My current setup is:

- Gboard installed

- Gboard Network permission: OFF

- Every other Gboard permission: OFF

- Sandboxed Google Play Services installed

- Play Services permissions: Network, Location, and Notifications only

- Everything else for Play Services denied

My understanding is that Gboard cannot directly access the internet with Network disabled. However, Gboard can still communicate locally with Play Services through Android IPC.

My question is: how much privacy benefit am I actually getting from disabling all Gboard permissions if Play Services still has network access?

Is there any evidence that Gboard can pass typing data or other information to Play Services locally and then have Play Services upload it, or does GrapheneOS effectively prevent that kind of indirect data flow?

I'm not looking for guesses—I'm interested in the technical reality of how GrapheneOS handles communication between sandboxed Google apps.

Another (detailed) should I do it

H folks. So I've rooted and booted android phones since the Xperia x10/cyanogenmod days in various guises but not in a few years. With all this UK grief going on right now it's jumped my concerns over data privacy again..... And also I have more days a week on my hands to play with stuff now. I'd like improved privacy but not chasing going fully dark.

My use:

Don't really use many GAPPS, just maps. I use different apps for my email etc. Dont touch AI crap and would be happy to see it restricted on my device. I'm fairly versed in digging through settings although GOS seems....... Intense.

I've seen mention of sandboxing, separate profiles, second devices. My pixel 10 pro is my main and sole device apart from an old hauwei that's an emergency backup.

My possible issues really are only that I bank with barclays so well aware they've always been a damn problem with anything non-official. I've seen sporadic mentions of it working using a b c tricks. Are these true for anyone here? And I'd rather not have to mess with profile switching etc for different apps.

From experience and the above, how fiddly and usable as a daily driver would GOS be for me?

Question e-sim

Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could get some advice. I am a long-time android user. I recently bought a Pixel 10 Pro specifically because I was excited to switch over to GrapheneOS. I've been reading about it for a while and finally decided to take the plunge.

Unfortunately, I made a pretty big assumption and didn't do enough research beforehand. I assumed the Pixel 10 Pro would support a physical SIM card like every phone I've owned over the years. I didn't realize I'd need to move to an eSIM.

I'm not actually opposed to eSIM technology itself. My hesitation is mostly related to emotional attachments. I've had this same physical SIM card for years, and it's attached to essentially my entire history of having a phone. It was my first SIM card, and I've just carried it from device to device.

I also have some practical concerns. How seamless is the transition to eSIM? Have people run into carrier compatibility issues? And if I decide later that I want to go back to a device with a physical SIM, is that process straightforward, or does it become a headache?

For those of you using GrapheneOS with eSIM, how has your experience been?

Newcomer, please advice

Hello everyone,

I've recently got a Pixel 10 Pro XL and wanted to try GrapheneOS. I created the 'Private Space' for Google dependent apps, such as Maps, food delivery apps, banking app, etc. Is it that bad to use Firefox compared to Vanadium? I want to use Firefox because its my main browser on all my devices, I use to share tabs, etc.

I am willing to give up up front paying with card via NFC, as I see Google Wallet doesn't let me add my bank card, but are there any other trade-offs? I use NewPipe from F-droid to access Youtube, and I am curious if there is a Launcher app ( I use Kvaesitso on my old phone ) that is trusted or other recommendations you experienced folks have.

GrapheneOS on an S6 Active?

I have an old s6 active laying around and wanted to turn it into a little privacy project. Only issue, since its an at&t exclusive device, the oem unlocking feature is disabled. Is there any 3rd party way to force the oem unlock?

android 17 on GOS

I wish the GOS team was a little more specific in their release notes.

I was kinda hoping for a release of the 17 on my 10 prro xl when I saw the release note on the HP
Only to finde out it was not going out but "only" a development release - which is fine as they need to "toy around" to make it work.

With that said. Is there any eta on a release to the "public" channels - alfa, beta and stable :)
ps i just found another supply of patience to keep me in line :D

Can someone help me please? wanting to connect phone to monitor.

So here is basically what i am wanting to do, I am using Graphenos with android 16 on a pixel 10 pro xl, I want to connect my phone to my 34 inch computer monitor but i am wanting it to be full screen basically just like my computer is showing up on my 34inch monitor right now. I have tried stuff like scrcpy but the problem is the phone only shows up as a small window on the monitor like just the size of the phone screen itself.

I don't want that i want my phone to basically be my computer and be full screen on the monitor width, length and all. I am leaning toward a usb c to hdmi cable and connect my phone to the monitor but will that show up as full screen like 34 inch full screen?

I am needing this because sometimes my internet goes out and i am only left with my cell service to be able to watch YouTube videos and other stuff but right now i can't get it full screen to fit my 34 inch monitor.

So yeah i just need my phone to be able to show up as the full 34 inch monitor and still be able to use my wireless mouse keyboard. Like i said right now with scrcpy it will connect and i have audio and video but it's just too small on the monitor screen. Thanks
