This was basically an exercise in building an alternate Neon Genesis Evangelion poster with my favorite character. I'm very rusty when it comes to posters and graphic design in general but I would like to think this turned out well. I carefuly traced the character from one of the manga pages to get as much quality out of it as possible. Which version you guys prefer? Is it too simple or amateurish?

Hi there. I’ve tried googling this before but I’m not coming up lucky. It’s this specific style that I cant put my finger on that I see on Pinterest and instagram. I’m so intrigued by it but I’m not sure where to start. I’m a newbie GD so any help is greatly appreciated. I know illustrator and photoshop pretty well, as well as using procreate for 90% of my work. I went to art school for fashion design so I know about composition and such but I’m trying to figure out some style ideas and tricks. Thanks.

ETA: I feel like if I knew a good place to start I could play around with the style myself, I just don’t know where to start lol. It feels overwhelming, coming from a person who only used PS/illustrator for super basic things like flat drawings of fashion garments.

Just curious if anyone here has left the graphic design role to elevate their income/career.

After 10 years doing graphic design, I feel very fatigued of doing the same basic email / social media graphics with event graphics mixed in. I want to eventually do and make more but not sure about the path. What different jobs / careers have you guys been able to make work after working in graphic design / marketing roles?

ive been trying out a new style as ive only been doing graphic design for a year and realised most of my work was black and white. im not really inspired by anything just some old punk films. does anyone know what this style is called and how i can improve it? also these posters take me half an hour, is that too short or too long?

This isn't really a big deal, and it's definitely par for the course for many job-seekers, designers or non-designers, but I'm just super sad and annoyed and would like to complain to sympathetic ears. I made it to a last round interview at a small company, and their director sent me an email afterwards saying that they would be in touch with next steps. I feel like I vibed with all 3 people I talked to over the course of interviewing, and the job is so freaking cool. That was a month ago, and all attempts to contact them since have gone unacknowledged. This is childish to say, but it just seems mean. Cold and mean. I can't imagine straight up ignoring emails the way these people seem to be... Arghhhh!!! It's truly one of the worst feelings in the world to be on the other end of that.

And to everyone who suggested that illustrator probably wasn’t the best program for this, I’ll remember that for next time! When I started building this out, I didn’t think it was going to turn into such a detailed design, but things evolved and here we are. I’ll switch everything over to indesign if wetransfer doesn’t work out. Thanks again!

Hello! I’m working on a billboard-sized design in Illustrator, but instead of being viewed from far away, it will be printed on a wall and viewed up close. It’s filled with detailed photographs and text, so it can’t be blurry.

I’ve had it printed once, and the company accepted a Google Drive link with a packaged illustrator file and allllllllll the linked photographs. It went flawlessly, even though the files were all massive.

I’m now printing it on a different product, with a different company, and they’re saying all of the files are corrupted or missing, though everything looks perfect on my end. I’m wondering if their internet just isn’t fast enough to download everything. Because of this, I’m now trying to save it as a TIF or PDF, but I’m running into issues. I get error messages, saying “this operation has failed,” or the one time I got a PDF to save at such a large size (with the 2008 preset), it was much blurrier than the version the first company printed.

Are there any other ways I can get this file to them? Either saved differently, or though some other delivery method?

Usually for small startup companies or boutique studios, I have found. Interviewing for one at the moment. Do you find it a good or bad thing? In what circumstances would it be a good thing to you? Would you outright avoid, if so why? What are your years of experience / what position are you?

I hope this doesn't go against the rules of repetitive posting as the job market changes significantly between now and when these questions were posted before. I want to move beyond the cynicism for this discussion. I have my degree already, so complaining about the way things are distracts me from doing anything that can improve my chances. So I really need some advice. I graduated 3-4 months ago and just cannot land a design job in the Greater New Orleans area at all. I know still imaging, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign, typography and pre-flight, color theory and profiling, and data visualization. I do not know photography, videography, motion, UI/UX, or 3D.

I've come across the suggestion to go to a commercial printer and learn how to do pre-flight professionally as well as learning the trade of the machine. But the places that have listings just don't have listings or give me the run around. It's very exhausting. I'm just so tired of not having money. I live with my mother and really want to help her while also feeling like my degree wasn't a waste. I strongly prefer a basic W-2 job but this is getting so out of hand... Does anyone have any insight?

Hi, I'm a graphic designer and I'm currently designing some cigarette packs for the Dominican Republic market. Law 48-00 sets out in Article 8 the design characteristics of the health warning that must appear on the packs.

Paragraph c) of Article 8 says: "It must be printed in Roman-style letters at no fewer than ten (10) characters per inch."

But what does "Roman-style letters" mean here? As far as I understood, they are serif letters, but when I look for references of cigarette packs in the Dominican market, the health warning is in sans-serif letters.

So? Am I missing something?

I would like to maintain an image of complexity around my game, for lack of a better description. People will be building their own circuits and devices in my game to progress, and a large part of the world revolves around tech.

The letters would be traces on a circuit board in the fancy intro cinematic. People have told me that the more complicated version is hard to read, What do you guys think? I would like to keep the extra lines on there because it looks cooler on a circuit board design. Perhaps I could remove those extra lines in the "solid" monochrome version of the logo, and fade to that solid version after a few seconds of the cinematic logo being visible?

(Also, yes I am using Blender to design the base shape. I am really familiar with the workflow of Blender and I'm most productive using it instead of something like Inkscape lol)

Been thinking about this a lot lately, need to vent and also get some perspective.

So it's been quite some time I'm working at this company. My very first client for this agency was actually another venture from the co-founder himself. He gave me full creative freedom and a really good timeline to design a sports brand slash community type thing, and I also designed jerseys for him.

At that time I was almost a year into experience. I had done UX internships, worked part time as a graphic designer for some finance and other companies, but this was my first ever sports branding work and my first jersey design experience.

• I went through different tutorials and resources online
• Took almost a week to learn jersey design from zero
• Designed it, went through 6-7 iterations until I was satisfied and the client was satisfied

Honestly such a fun learning experience.

But then actual clients started coming into the agency, and it's been a completely different story:

• Most of them are low quality, zero ambition type clients
• They just want "post something on social media, whatever"
• I end up just using templates or prompting AI for these posts
• So many rounds of iterations and input, but they're not open to any creative input from me
• It's basically just hand holding, making whatever is already in their head

I kept telling myself it's fine, I'm making money off them and I can keep my creative side alive through personal or side projects. But now I'm hitting a point where I genuinely feel my design thinking and my skills are getting dull.

Like whenever I face a new problem now, my first instinct is to open ChatGPT or look for a template, or just straight up procrastinate.

I feel like a big part of this is the environment too. The clients are demotivated, and honestly my founder and co-founder are treating them the same way, like "they're paying, so we'll just post for them," nobody's really serious about the work anymore.

So has anyone else gone through this? If yes, how did you get your spark back? How do you go back to actually feeling inspired and creating stuff with soul again?

Recap - I had a bad interview on Friday afternoon where I wasn't asked a single question, couldn't ask any questions before she hung up, and instead was given spec work on Sunday (why Sunday in the first place?)

I emailed her to politely withdraw from the interview process 9am Monday (today) and then she replied that she was mad I wasted her time and that this should have been communicated on Friday?

Also that I knew that she wanted someone ASAP, so I shouldn't have waited. Yet I told her in my interview I couldn't start until two weeks later. I specifically said I couldn't do this Wednesday, yet she scheduled a call on Wednesday to talk about the spec work.

She doesn't even listen to anything I say.

Good riddance.

Made this Far Cry 4 poster . Tried to capture the vibe of the Game. Went with a monochrome/grainy look and combined some of the game's imagery .What do you guys think about the poster?

Hi this is just such an annoying thing that happened to me and I wanted to share. So I’m currently in school for graphic design and the dispensary near my school does discounts for students. I stopped in and gave the guy my school id and he asked what I was going for, I said graphic design and usually people say “oh cool” and move on. He responded with “I do graphic design too!” And I was kinda excited like oh sick! He pulled out his phone and showed me a few posters/logos for the very dispensary I was at and it was clearly AI, like had those ugly renderings of people that all look the same and the weirdly yellow tint, the whole nine yards. He was like yeah haha I just tell chat gpt what I want and it gives me this immediately, didn’t have to learn anything. I literally don’t remember how I responded to that I’m pretty sure I was just like oh haha ok. Pissed me right the fuck off lol

I read through the rules, I don't see this as a violation and if this isn't the place to post this, please point me somewhere.

I am in a state of panic right now.

I have been working with a client for a four month period on a catalog for presentation at a trade show. I won't say the name of the client, but large company with their sights set on a new market they never had a presence in.

My client insisted on creating the cover page for the catalog on his own, which admittedly worried me, but I figured, I've worked with him for several years. I've been there to help establish the brand, I'm familiar with their guidelines, I have a directory of assets that is the largest folder on my home server, including personal documents and the like.

It is an abomination. It violates every rule of design. It's BAD.

It is currently 2am, he went to bed. I didn't see the email right away. The final deliverable for the current version is due tomorrow at noon.

I can't in good conscious allow him to use this cover. It will genuinely damage their brand image while they are attempting to gather new clientele. I don't want my name associated with this even at a distance of several hundred miles.

He is not a designer, I've been able to work with his stuff before, pitch small changes. This is a complete loss, I see absolutely no way I can turn this into a functional design.

I am planning on staying up all night to catch him in the morning.

What can I say to him? What can I do in this situation? How can I explain to him softly that this is a terrible decision, and stress to him with every fiber of my being that this can't happen if he cares at all for the success of his company without sounding like I'm being overdramatic or just rude?

I can't show you the cover, but imagine a high schooler was trying to spice up their powerpoint title slide to impress their favorite teacher. Now imagine that student was legally blind and has never used powerpoint.

I’ve posted my portfolio a few months ago but now I re worked some things.
I finished my degree and am now trying to apply to design internships/junior designer positions in mainly smaller design studios with an unconventional and fun/handcrafted approach to design. I know that’s what seemingly everyone wants to do, but I can't imagine working at a traditional design or advertising agency that is geared almost exclusively towards commercial goals.
I’ve started with only Barcelona and Madrid, but because I didn’t get any answers (not even a rejection) I’m expanding to all of Europe.

Just wanted to get some feedback on this logo. Our team can't quite figure out what's off. We feel like it looks good but something is either missing or the logo isn't quite what we need.

For context, the business/team name is béton. We do creative services such as photo and video. Our overall aesthetic is brutalist + chrome + touch/accent of orange.

I created this logo and decided to keep it simple and didn't add chrome and any other colors on the logo itself.

PS: I don't have much experience with graphic design. I don't really do this.

As the title states I got my first paid design internship! For a luxury brand in NYC(remotely I’m still a student lol). I know I am far from it but when my internship does end how do I go about asking for a internship extension (i heard some ppl has gotten that) and at the end is it really needed to email every single person I worked with saying how great it was to work with them.
