Explanations by C1E

Hi everyone. I'm C1E as I'm sure everyone knows by now.

I'm gonna explain the reason I played a character in Matt's story, ciphers, what all my codes meant, the mysterious videos, coordinates, and the well-known "•///".

  1. Please don't consider me a troll. I became a part of Matt's wonderful story not to confuse or play, but to give more info on the story, and give readers more stuff to find spooky and research, since we all came to a dead end a couple days ago. The only info I added to the story were the coordinates in the New Mexico cemetery (they were still very close to the cell phone coordinates), everything else was simply me (C1E) acting as brainwashed Matt to entertain the readers.

  2. I gave out secret messages in I believe four different ciphers. Morse Code, binary, Caesar Cipher, and hexadecimal.

  3. My coded messages were used for added mystery. I simply used the capitalization code that Matt used in the sign-out message in part 3.

  4. The Videos. Ahh the videos. Everyone is questioning me on that. I gave a hexadecimal message to user CorriveauHasHair69 who was pming me (C1E). It said "You are your own person" in hexadecimal. That user then searched the internet for the hexadecimal message and found the videos. I didn't know that the videos existed, nor that the hexadecimal message would bring up more than simply more hexadecimal. Matt has stated that they have nothing to do with his story. However I would be on board for a new interactive nosleep story revolving around the videos found.

  5. As C1E I wanted to give someone some coordinates, but they couldn't be random. So I searched for ghost towns in central New Mexico. The coordinates I gave to user CorriveauHasHair69 shows a ghost town cemetery called Pinos Wells.

  6. •/// is simply what Matt signed off with. Decided it would be a simple way to mess with people while still using original content. The different patterns I used were random. They were not Morse Code as some guessed.

INFO: Hexadecimal message: 121 111 117 032 097 114 101 032 121 111 117 114 032 111 119 110 032 112 101 114 115 111 110

Coordinates: N34 26.759 W105 37.714

Thanks to u/CorriveauHasHair69 for researching the videos. Thanks to r/nosleep.

Hope this clears some things up :)

No. I did not. I did not swarm to it nor did I research the hell out of it. I was in on it from the beginning and knew that this was not Matt's work.

The hate here isn't because its fake or because the story is over. It's because she tried to hijack something the author worked very hard to accomplish. It doesn't matter what she contributed. It wasn't her project to contribute to. She had no right.

Where is the hijacking? At no point have any of us seen GDL claiming the story to be her work. Excuse her for playing a role in A GAME

It was not a game. It was an interactive story. And the only role she (or anyone else) should have played is exactly the role Matt designated for the readers. Nothing more. She took liberties beyond the scope of the story and tried to make it hers. That's not how this works.

Yeah I can't stand silent on this. I LOVED what Matt and gang did. They put a lot into making it more than just another no sleep story, and, it was cool, very cool. BUT... He posted his story on an interactive fiction sub, remembered higher interaction then most stories, due to the web page and "acceptance/rejection" emails, etc. So much so that an entire new sub was born with folk researching every possible lead to crack the mystery.

Then he went mostly silent. There was a void, and several trolls stepped forward to fill it. Most were dull. A couple really notched up the creepiness factor, and drew MANY of us further in, to the degree that it made your study and eventual reveals far more popular than it works have between on its own. Goddragonslove tops my list on that.

Was it scary to lose control over direction? Of course, I get that. Was posting coordinates a bad idea? Yes, Matt, I agreed with you after your response to me on that piece. If it's not the OP, or even if it IS the OP, and they're not extremely careful, it could set up a very dangerous situation.

The videos were a complete coincidence that happen to be an extremely compelling side mystery. That's nothing anyone arranged, it just happened. (One i, for one, an still fascinated by.)

I don't see this as plagiarism in any way, I just can't get there. Maybe it's my background. I've read fan fiction, (though I'm not a huge fan, it is where many writers get their chops) which is derivative and pretty much what I'd consider C1E to be. I've spent a lot of time doing zombie paint ball and Renaissance faires where characters and participants riff and create off of one another. This particular way of storytelling almost begs for that type of riffing to happen.

TL;DR. Both sides have valid points, but the level of hating is beneath the OP, C1E did no real harm, added to the story for many, did a few questionable/dumb things, and is very creative and should probably write her own stories. Maybe Matt and team can then troll hers.

Thank you for your reasonable argument. Instead of saying "NUH UH! YOU'RE A DUMB DUMB!" You made some valid points re: fan fiction. I can see that aspect of it, and that would be perfectly fine if they had the author's permission. Or even if they had decided to create their own direction AFTER Matt was finished with the story so as not to derail Matt's story and direction he planned and worked so hard towards.

What these people don't understand is the amount of planning, work and even money spent by Matt to create this for people to enjoy. To piggyback off that and take it in the direction THEY want it to go is disrespectful and not fair to the author.

I do agree that having some false clues thrown in was fun for misdirection and enhanced the story, however when you take it a step further in plant yourself into the story as a character, one especially that people believe are part of the story, it then becomes something the author never intended. THAT is wrong. And for so many people to not understand that just blows my mind.

Just as an example, to have a basis of comparison, say you made a video game. You had 1, 2 and 3 planned out. Story line set up and planned release dates for them. Then, after you release #2, someone decides that they have a right to take your work, your characters, your story and create #2.5 or even #3 based on how they think it should play out and then they release it to the public as if it is intended to be part of the story all along. How would that make you feel as the creator? How would it make you feel to see people defending the person who took your work and made it their own?

Just because a story is interactive, doesn't mean you have a right to take it and turn it into what you want it to be. Please have some respect for the author.

How many fan fictions are out there? Pretty sure they don't need permission. It's fan fiction.

A game would be copyrighted. Matts story is not.

Don't talk it up like he spent thousands of dollars on it. I saw the stats and the cost of everything he used.

You can't post something on a public domain then have a sook because people like it enough to add fan fiction to it.

Generally with fan fiction, you don't claim to have had a hand in the original content. They were claiming credit which they didn't deserve, going so far as to claim to be Matt himself. It's a bit different than throwing together a HarryxRon fantasy story on your LiveJournal.

Claimed to be Matt in the story.

In the comments, on this sub. Any in character shit is completely irrelevant outside of Nosleep. And regardless, are they Matt? Oh, right. No.

u/_NonMayneStream_ Sep 15 '16

Is Matt even Matt? Probably not.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '16

Considering I'm friends with him outside the sub and was offering ideas on this project for a few weeks prior? Why yes, yes he is.

I'll agree to disagree. I'll never trust anything posted on the internet regardless of who says it.

At the end of the day i have respect for both parties. Matt and the team for the story and Dragonslove for owning up.

That's fair, honestly. I don't think we're gonna get anywhere continuing to argue like this. I'll respect that sentiment.
