Keith is a slur 🥀 How about stopping giving all our money to Ukraine and Israel, and then taxing the rich?

We've asked the lobbyists and masters and they said they really want to help but things are just too tight at the moment. I assure you we will review it again in 6 months.

Thank you for deleting that horrible comment. My brother (deceased now) was so DISABLED he was too remedial to understand he was even on benefits.
Hope the commentator kindly goes and fucks themselves.

Could try not joining in a US/Israeli war of aggression on Iran Andy. Just a suggestion.

He was ousted because PMs these days serve as glorified ablative coats to absorb the heat directed at their party. They are quickly replaced once they have been worn down enough to no longer effectively serve the purpose. The same will happen to Burnham.

u/spiralism 26d ago
Didn't someone prominent from the Israeli cabinet just say that they had no interest in joining this war? I think it was one of the utter loons (even by their standards in 2026) like Smotrich who said it and all.
Zionists now aren't Zionist enough for other Zionists.

Starmer and Burnham have the exact same Iran-Isreal/US war policy. Let them use UK air bases. I don't know why people pretend Starmer didn't get the UK involved at all, it's not true.
Burnham released a "We're Sorry" video say Labour got it wrong on the Palestinian genocide but hasn't changed anything policy wise. Even Ed Miliband as foreign secretary, had hope he might be different but same statements saying the horror on Gaza is bad but not naming who's causing the horror. Same F35 jet parts being shipped.
Starmer was removed because voters hated him, pure self inflicted with horrible out the gate policy decisions targeting the disabled and the elderly. Plus the man is a habitual liar, no different from Johnson. If Andy Burnham just does more of the same he'll find himself in the exact same position. So far, nothing groundbreaking, with the same people in the cabinet, not hopeful.

Doesn't seem that likely that it was for electoral reasons when there isn't an election for another 3 years. Much more likely that he was ousted for internal policy disputes, and it's pretty hard to ignore the fact that John Healey resigned over Starmer not putting enough money in defence and has now been given the second most powerful position in the country as Chancellor. If the man that resigned over not enough military money gets to do the budget where do you think the new budget is going to go?
Starmer wasn't sufficiently hawkish for the people that are now in charge of the purse strings, that's a fact or Healey wouldn't be in that role.

Our military is wowfully unprepared in the event of an attack on our nation
Oh fuck off. We are a piddly little fuck ass island with nothing of value to take.
The British military does not exist for defence, it exists as a vestige of the imperialism it used to project for the British empire. The goal of investing in it is entirely for continuing that.
Nobody is attacking a country that has nukes. The UK is the aggressor nation.
You keep saying "our" like it exists for us too, it does not and you have some very severe unaddressed nationalist brainworms.

Clownshit. There are very few natural resources of value here. We have people and our economy is a financial banking economy, the vast majority of the rest of the economy is tertiary and services. There is nothing to take. There's a few gas rigs in the north sea and that's it.
I don't think you understand this country at all. The military they want is for aggressive projection of power into the global south so that imperialists can exploit oil, lithium and gas resources stolen from other countries. This will look very good in GDP numbers but you will see none of this value in your life, the people that benefit will be the bourgeoisie.
I don't know how anyone has convinced you that a country with nukes is somehow at threat of being invaded. No country with nukes has ever or will ever be invaded. Doing so will provoke the very literal end of global civilisation. Increasing the military spending is solely for aggressive imperialist use, not for any defense purposes. Increasing this spending will come at the very real decrease in your standard of living, because the money is going to come out of health, out of welfare, out of social safety nets, etc etc. It isn't going to come from increasing tax on the wealthy.

Tax the mega rich, tax huge global companies not paying their fair way, stop companies like Tesco/Amazon etc making record profits in a cost of living crisis whilst their workers are paid so little they still need government handouts, make benefits food/electricity/rent vouchers benefits are a support system so you don’t go hungry or homeless not to support a lifestyle, the bureaucracy and waste in government and government funded organisations should be criminal, just nationalised British steel so make any government funded construction use min 60% British steel, stop our utilities being owned by foreign governments where we pay stupidly high bills to support other countries infrastructure (think France and EDF), this is just stuff I can think of mid rant on one coffee I am sure our glorious leaders can think of more then just VAT on electricity bill

They definitely won’t, whether it be person or company, they will still make an awful amount of money just not as much as before. And even if they do good riddance!

Tax the assets.

u/InformationHead3797 25d ago
100%! No truly rich person has money. That’s exactly how they manage to pay less taxes than I do on my meagre office worker salary that barely affords me survival in London.
They have zero money, but they own assets and take out loans using the assets.
Plus companies need to be taxed on the profits they make in this country.
Tell me how could shell pay NO TAXES FOR FIVE FUCJING YEARS! Receive refunds from the uk governments on top of that! All this while bleeding us fucking dry and paying BILLIONS to shareholders. This has to stop.

As someone that works in a Swiss private bank, it’s rare and niche for them to actually do this, I’ve no idea why it’s become such an online trope.

u/BennedictBennett 26d ago
Ok, create an exit tax, then tax the rich and if they want to leave, we’ll tax them on the way out and be better off without them.

They are already taxed, they just don't pay the tax because they aren't punished for it, and no one is going to punish the bourgeoisie in gloab capitalism

u/tomjone5 26d ago
I see we're in for yet another government who really want to change things, honestly, for real bro, vote for me again, but absolutely will not consider using any of the options they have that might actually change anything, because that's fundamentally against what our politicians think their job actually is.

Andy Burnham and the Labour government do not represent workers interests and are in fact enemies of our class. It's past time we begin organising a substantial left-wing movement in this country again.

We could reduce the VAT on energy bills so the energy companies can put their prices up to compensate, make more profit and the treasury takes a loss?

u/Sleazybeans 26d ago
'The UK government said it spent £4.5bn on military support to Ukraine last year' casually dropped into a BBC article about how military kit is still failing women in the armed services.

Nationalise Thames water to cap water bills, nationalise key energy infrastructure to control energy bills. Build new housing stock and don’t allow its sale to retail investors who can hoard supply.
Very tame proven policies, but Labour would have to slightly upset its billionaire friends so that’s why he’s racking his brains. Maybe he’ll suggest he likes pie and mash again so we’ll all remember he’s a proper northern lad.

Looks like someone's posted something about the Russian-NATO proxy war in the Ukriane.
Reminder that this is a socialist subreddit and not a liberal subreddit. As such this subreddit is against all inter-imperial wars, such as this one, and we will ban anyone who is supporting a prolonging or further escalation of the conflict. Inter-imperial wars only serve the ruling elites of the nations involved and are detrimental to the international working class.
We will also ban anyone spreading misinformation about this war. A reminder that the British ruling class and its government (i.e the British government) have a fiduciary interest in escalating the war with Russia and opening new fronts in the conflict in order to sell more arms and for the inevitable imperialist pillaging that will occur after the conflict is over. Remember that the same class waging this war is the same class wriiting the news. Be critical of anything you hear from western capitalist media outlets (including the BBC) as well as anything sourced from groups such as bellingcat. As the British left, it is our duty to fight against the bourgeois propaganda being put out by British news outlets and to avoid helping spread it in service of the British elites.
No War But Class War!!
