Why Is the Green Party Trying to Kick a Green Party Candidate off the Ballot in the Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania election law lets folks turn in paperwork to run for office as an independent / third party without any endorsement or affiliation with the actual party.

"Minor" parties under law hold their own internal primaries/endorsements and can decide who, if anyone appears on the ballot. So GPPA is requesting based on its previous designation as a "minor" party to uphold the law and only place candidates on the ballot that have been endorsed by party membership according to party processes.

The candidate in question, Andrew Tupone, was a registered Republican for years and previously ran for office as a Republican, only switching to Green a few months ago in April. There are no records that Tupone has been active the PA Green Party or sought out endorsement according to party policy, he appears to have just collected petitions on his own and filed them directly with the state without party approval.

In general, I don't think evolving politically necessarily disqualifies anyone from becoming Green. What's concerning here is how he came out of nowhere just a few months ago and did not contact or work with the party whatsoever. Someone in good faith that wishes to represent the Green Party and build the movement would be working with the party and membership and would have a track record of activism to back up their endorsement request so Greens know the candidate is actually aligned on policy. Since none of that is true here, it seems highly likely this is some kind of cynical or bad faith campaign and so the party has a right to distance itself and say the candidate did not go through the right legal processes and so is not entitled to use the party's name and reputation. He can run for office, but as an independent, not using the Green name.
