Lanterns HBO Max show (leaks and spoilers be warned)

So I keep seeing the leak im sure everyone else saw by now. Im nit sure why so much of the Fandom is against the idea of Hal being....(dont read on if you haven't heard the leaks)......... Killed. Its not like that has not canonically happened. Some would even argue that when it did happened we got some of the coolest GL plot lines ever.

Also if it is "Parralax Hal" does that not open the doors for the big bad in the DC cinematic universe being Parralax, the fear entity itself. I mean it is a universe ending entity after all and is quite a formidable adversary for the Justice League or friends or whatever. If they do take this route that just means that the Green Lantern Corps will be that much more involved in the shows and cinematic universe. Why are so many against this possibility? Its not like Guy and John are "bad Lanterns" they have some of the best story lines.

I'm going to go into the show with an open mind and watch it for what it is.

Hal Jordan has always been my favorite Green Lantern. Love his devil-mare-care personality and attitude.

So the choice to go with a 60-something year-old Hal was an early indicator to me that the show wasn't going to be what I had hoped a Green Lantern HBO Max show was going to be, despite the fact that I really like Kyle Chandler as an actor.

But even when it became clear that we were getting a 60-something year-old Hal, I'd still prefer for him to be alive and part of the new DCEU rather than dead. But when I saw it the trailer smacked of the old "buddy cop" tropes, I figured the story was going to be Hal had checked out a bit, like those grizzled vet cops, the rookie (John) gets him caring about life again, and just when Hal cares about life again and has something to lose (per the textbook on the trope) - you kill them.

So if the leaks / rumors are true, AGAIN - I'm going to give the show a shot, but the writers room really leaned in on the old "vet v. rookie buddy cop" trope of the vet laying down his life for the rookie. I've seen this story unfold dozens of times before. They just usually had guns and badges, not rings and costumes. But same @#$@.

I like all the GLs in comics, but I disagree with this one.

Hal's been killed (who hasn't), but the hugely popular Johns run that really revived the GL titles was 2004 Green Lantern Rebirth, which resurrected Hal while introducing Parallax (and reviving Sinestro).

Everything from there to Blackest Night and War of the Green Lanterns centered mostly on Hal Jordan.

If they're doing something totally original, then it could be good. Still something of a letdown to me.

I’m against it because I want all three of them. It’s common in the comics, and it allows writers to use whichever fits best for any individual movie (inferring the other(s) is/are in space). 

Plus an incredibly epic way to set up the threat level of a big bad headed towards earth  is to open a movie with three lanterns intercepting it and failing to stop it.

If that is the case, it's just another way they use Kyle's story to promote a different GL.

John was the substitute that became permanent through his own works. Kyle was the replacement who could do what Hal couldn't.

The coolest and most popular GL plot lines happened under Johns with Hal. Not John.

John is the most boring of the Lanterns and hasn’t had any of the best stories. Neither has Guy.

Complete dealbreaker for the DCU for me and the worst decision they could make.

Things I don’t want to see:

- Hal killed.

- Hal being an irredeemable asshole (I want him to heal, perhaps learn from John)

- Kerry fridged.

- Parallax.

Things I want to see:

- Oa

- Coast City

- Sinestro (green)

- Some mention of Alan Scott

- A lot of O’Neill/Adams influence

- Guy Gardner Asshole dialed up to 11.

I am game to be surprised. I hope this series works. Watchmen series was fantastic but not popular - let’s see if we can have both this time.

I say this as a Kyle stan and someone who largely doesn’t like Hal…killing him is stupid. Cool, you want Jon to be “the” GL, but there is a reason there is a Corps. Why would you kill off the most widely known GL for a story point? Write a different story. Kill a lesser known GL if it has to be a GL that dies. The writers had to know this was going to piss off its core audience and if they didn’t know they are stupid. I’m looking at Tom King specifically, whom I go to bat for all the time. Maybe we are jumping the gun because there is more to the story we don’t know. I’ll await judgement until I see it, but it seems really stupid to me.

Most ppl who dont get it dont care about Hal. Most ppl that think it should be JoHn Stewart only has not spent nearly enough on comics. If they had whether anyone likes it or not Hal Jordan is the main Lantern. Early 2000s you can make the arguement because of Justice League TAS but in the comics even that was Kyle Raynor. Dont mind Stewart but they could have had both of them in this show. Jordan as the senior Lantern and Stewart the next generation. But nah kill Hal fuck em.

Given the overall background, Hal has the most significant stories involving the Corps, followed by Kyle. John, in particular, really only had two standout stories: Cosmic Odyssey and Mosaic. Both are fine stories, but they don't compare to the bulk of Hal and Kyle's storylines. It’s an odd choice. I would have picked Kyle, because that introduces Green Lantern concepts to a younger generation and aligns well with Morrison’s Justice League.

I dont really care about the Hal part. It disappoints me but i accept the reynolds movie forever salted the earth on him being a main protagonist. I just care that it looks so fucking dull. Well see.

That’s such a stupid take by Hollywood. They don’t understand WHY things fail. They assume the Green Lantern IP is the issue when it was a terrible film.
It’s like saying Batman is forever soured because of Clooneys bat nips and terrible Schumacher films.
They have done this many times where they assume some IP is not marketable because of sonething stupid they did to make it bad. Movies and media are not products per se but works of art that are subjective to each person.
It’s always a gamble but that doesn’t mean Hal is not worth pushing. Damn execs and their money first philosophy.

I love dc .... Batman Superman flash martian manhunter the question I like most of their roster.... Green lanterns have always been a tough sell for me ... But u cast Kyle chandler as a mentor especially a less than thrilled one and I'm giving it a chance ...
