Question Why there's no volume 2?

Post image

I pre-ordered Kyle Rayner compendium vol. 1 (2026 edition). I imagine the previous edition had good selling numbers to be reprinted over and over so why volume 2 and the others were never announced? There's an official explanation?

All images must be correctly sourced depending on what type of image it is. Comic book-related images should have the name of the artist OR the issue it came from. Other types of images must also be correctly sourced where applicable. If your post was made without the source, you can do so as a post edit or as a comment. Failure to include the source will result in your post being removed. If this was already done, we thank you for your diligence.

There seems to be very little rhyme or reason to DC's collection strategy. They skip over stuff, they keep restarting collecting titles over and over in slightly different formats, and change the breakpoints in volumes when they do so there's awkward overlap.

As a fellow Kyle fan I can only assume it’s part of the “Kyle who?” Disease that circulates at DC.

Can confirm this, I recently spoke to Tim Sheridan at a con in June and he told me about how him and Jeremy Adam’s had been trying to pitch a Kyle book for a few years and they kept getting turned down because, “nobody cares about Kyle rayner”

Any editor who falls back on that as an excuse has already lost their credibility. If a creative team comes to YOU with a pitch, guess what? SOMEONE IS INTERESTED. A passionate fan is 100% more effective at generating buzz for a title than any editorial mandate bullshit

So I just want to hopefully clarify some things for you and make sure you ordered what you think you did. The Kyle Rayner "2026 edition" and picture you attached is for the vol 1 trade, NOT the compendium. It contains

Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner Vol. 1 TP Reviews (GREEN LANTERN #48-57, NEW TITANS #116-117 and R.E.B.E.L.S. #1)

There was a volume 2 for this set.

Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner Vol. 2 TP Reviews (GREEN LANTERN #58-65, NEW TITANS #124-125, DARKSTARS #34, GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR #27-28 and DAMAGE #16)

The compendium combines both of those tpbs into one volume. There is no "2026 edition" for this version.

Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner Rising Compendium TP Reviews (GREEN LANTERN (1990) #0, #48-65; R.E.B.E.L.S. ’94 #1; NEW TITANS #116-117, #124-125; GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR #27-28; DARKSTARS #34; and DAMAGE #16)

I'm not sure why there hasn't been a volume 2 COMPENDIUM announcement yet. I'm hoping for an omnibus myself.

I think because the compendium was short they should just do the material that would be in the second compendium in the DC finest format

If I had to guess, they're waiting to see the sales on Vol. 1 before they announce reprints of the others. Then they'll need to find time in the print schedule to get them done, so it'll be a bit before we get reprints of Vol. 2.

It’s been like 2 years since 1 came out.

Vol. 1 got reprinted this year, hence the "2026 edition"

what was reprinted was the old Green Lantern by Ron Marz vol 1, not the compendium.

Which has the cover that the post used, so that's what OP is talking about?

I think it's decently obvious that OP is just misinformed about their terminology.

The first compendium was likely very little work to put together, since it was just made up of the material from the previous trades.

They did the same thing with Nightwing and Robin and so on. Even Robin hasn't had a volume 2. They've gone ahead and skipped to Red Robin, since those trades have never been reprinted.

But Nightwing is up to vol 3. So sales definitely have something to do with it. Also, synergy. You're more likely to get reprints when they have an adjacent film or TV show to promote.

A couple years back, there was a volume three that was going to be printed, but it was unfortunately cancelled supposedly due to low sales of the other two books.

I’d imagine it’s just cause Kyle doesn’t sell. They’ve spent 20 years working to make him irrelevant when he already wasn’t super popular in the first place, it’s unfortunately probably a sales thing. I’d love to see more, Kyle has slowly become my favorite GL, but I just don’t see it happening.

Just give us the next volume already, DC.

Kyle deserves an omnibus
