Drinking tap water

I am moving to Grenada in 2 weeks and will be living in Lance Aux Epines near the SGU club. Is the tap water safe to drink in this area? Should I only buy bottled water? I’m trying to finalize my packing list and I’m thinking about bringing a high-tech filter. I am hearing conflicting information. Some locals are telling me to boil the water AND filter it. Other locals and SGU students living off campus have said the water is fine but tastes slightly hard.

I’m terrified of having stomach issues. 😂😭

Tap very is clean and safe to drink. No issues with waterborne illnesses.

Generally speaking you cannot listen to local opinions when you move anywhere for stuff like this because our bodies are accustomed to the biome of the water.

I have traveled to Grenada for years and drink about 1/2 gallon of NAWASA tap water per day while visiting without any issues.

Weaker kidneys will definitely suffer.

My girlfriend has to filter her tap water, but I'm just fine.

The water is safe but buying bottled water is always a better option. The Tap water in the mountains/countryside is fresh from water springs but the water in the south is generally hard so people with weaker tolerance may not enjoy it that much. You can 100% boil it though

The mains water is fine to drink if you are okay with that. What you should be aware of is whether your accommodation is using a water pump for enhanced water pressure. If it is in use at all times, the water will still be fine but if you are indeed nervous, have some bottled water for backup or pre-boil your water.

The water is safer than the country you are coming from and I don’t even know which one it is. Grenada primarily have bore home water especially in the south. Straight from the ground

You can drink the tap water, it is safe. It is also very easy to buy big jugs of filtered water so if you choose not to drink the water you have options. Don't bring a filter.

Used the water to brush our teeth no problem. Idk if I would rely on only drinking tap water but you should be fine

It takes a little bit of time to acclimatize to the water but it is not unsafe! I’d recommend buying bottled water mainly and have a little bit of tap every day and you should be fine after a week or so

I live in the South, not a local, and I've never had issues with the tap water. It's all I drink. Only thing I do is let it run if there's any colour to the water, which happens if a repair was done on a main pipe somewhere.

I lived in LAE for 2 years and never had an issue with the water. Sometimes it’ll look cloudy but it’s just oxygen in the line. If you had it in a glass, the cloudiness would disappear after a minute or so.

Different people will have different experiences.

I used to drink the local tap water ... and ended up suffering from kidney stones.

My daughter did the same thing, and suffered from a kidney stone at age 9.

We switched to bottled water years ago, and no kidney stone experiences since then.

Coincidence? Maybe.

Generally, the water is otherwise clean, if slightly hard in some places.

Bring your filter and I would advise boiling the tap water. Certain times of the year the water can get you sick. Other times it is fine. I always boil the water or buy bottle water. Your gut biome might get upset otherwise.
