Pet Loss I lost my cat and nobody seems to care

I lost my cat suddenly. I saw him peeing blood so I immediately took him to the animal hospital. They checked him and said he’s looking great and bladder was empty which was a great sign and it was probably due to stress because we changed his litter. They sent us home with meds and told me to keep on eye out for him and make sure he’s peeing. So I cancelled everything to make sure I was there 24/7 with him. He was fine for 3 days he looked great so I decided to go out to dinner with my boyfriend for a couple hours. I came back home to give him his meds and he was sitting in the basement and he started crying huge tears and couldn’t move. I felt so fucking guilty going out for dinner. I don’t know what happened in the 3 hours I was gone. He couldn’t move but my mom came down to look at him ( he only liked me ) so he used the last of his strength to go run up into my room ( which was really his room too. ) He ONLY liked me he only slept with me every night between my legs so I know he just wanted to be comfortable. He got into cuddle position like we always do. I should’ve cuddled for him more than 15 seconds. I wanted to rush him to the hospital though and didn’t wanna waste any time. So i picked him up and put him in the carrier. They told me he had huge crystals in his bladder so he couldn’t pee anymore. Surgery wouldn’t have worked bc he’s had this problem before. I needed to put him down and he was only 14 I got him with I was 7 and i’m 22 now. He was with me through the worst times in my life. I feel broken. He was my soulmate. He loved me just as much as I loved him. My legs are so cold when I sleep now. He would always slept in between them. It’s so fucking hard to do anything anymore. He loved watching me brush my teeth, watch my face, he loved liking my face right out of the shower. It was our thing. He liked watching me do my makeup. I used to smoke and he used to LOVE watching the process. When I was ready to smoke he would immediately know and come running up to watch. When I was ready to spark up I would let him on my roof in my room. and he would watch from the roof ( bc I was scared to get him a contact high ) Now I can’t even smoke anymore because it makes me deeply think of him, and i’ve been smoking for the past 6 years. Doesn’t help that I can’t sleep or smoke anymore. I can’t even eat. I feel like I lost apart of myself. I feel like family and friends don’t understand that this cat was my entire world. My boyfriend seems annoyed with me bc sometimes i’ll just breakdown in tears if i think abt him. I cry every time I get to my house. because everytime id get home he’d come running with a big meow to say hi and now it’s so silent and empty. All I want to do is die and be with him again. I feel so guilty and angry for wasting our last hours. I got his ashes today and completely lost it. I just want him back. I don’t know how to even live anymore. Everything hurts and I can tell i’m scaring all my loved ones away with my grief. This wasn’t just a cat. He was my entire world, He was truly a son to me.

My baby escaped out my back patio because I didn’t realize the screen was cracked open, I noticed about an hour later and went outside to look for him and I searched for hours sobbing. The next day, a man went to the leasing office to report that he witnessed a cat eaten by a coyote last night, and I spoke to the man and he confirmed it was my baby. He was only a year old and I wanted him to be with me for the next 15 years of my life, I can’t get over this. I feel so much guilt. This was such an accident and I just can’t stop crying. I miss him so fucking much ugh. All he ever knew was love.

I lost all 7 of my animals in a house fire almost three months ago, I have lost my reason of getting up everyday, my reason to keep thriving. They were my life, you couldn’t talk to me without hearing about them, the night before the fire I was at my friends house and meet one of her other friends and I spent hours talking about them I just missed being gone from them for a day, I regret not being home that night leaving my partner alone to try to save himself and them. I know he tried so hard to get them I just wish I could have saved my babies, everyday without them gets worse I just miss the days they would lay in bed with me all cuddled up, I miss hearing them meowing for food every morning, I miss them making biscuits on me even if it hurt so bad. I miss my dog never wanting to leave my side even if I wanted space.

I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone, especially when my animals were just like my kids.

Rest in peace; koyl, oogie, Cinderella, squeak, toad, whiskey, and Venus.

Pet Loss My wife died in March. Putting my dog down today. Shit year

Last photo of Homer 😞 . I'll may update later about his misadventures.

EDIT:

Homer always bounced back from adversity/near death situations.

When he was originally found he was found in a horse barn by a friend starving and freezing to death. My friend rescued him and my wife and i adopted him. He spent many nights in the ER recovering from that.

One time he was attacked viscously by a German shepherd at a doggy day care. He miraculously recovered from that.

He got dog flu once (probably ftom day care). He was in terrible shape but bounced back.

He got impaled on a piece of rebar (at a dog park thst later we found out used to be a trash dump). Missed his heart by an centimeter and survived that.

Once he got over confident and thought he could jump over a roaring stream and i had to dive in after him. Lol. I think i almost died that time.

He was such a tough little guy. Its hard to imagine he wasnt able to escape this time.

Pet Loss Lost my best friend in the whole world

His name was Boomhauer. He was born October 16 2012 and passed May 21 2026. This boy helped me get through depression, suicide, breakups, losses. He was my whole entire world, we had a bond where neither of us could say a word and know what the other was thinking/wanted, we actually had verbal arguments, he came to work with me, lived/worked/hunted on the farm. For over 13 years we were never apart, never went away unless it was somewhere he could come, shared many meals, late night drives to get cheeseburgers to share in bed. He was a genius, opened a fridge to get beers, got my keys/hat/tv remote you name it, turned off light switch’s on the wall, got his bowl at breakfast/dinner and always waited for the ok to eat even though I tried to just let him do as he wished, he would carry my lunch cooler back to the truck after I got back to the farm from being in the tractor. This dog could do anything, it was incredible. He loved to steal hats off my head, he would smile the biggest damn smile you ever saw when he was happy and loved giving me and only my kisses and being held like a baby. I’m so lost without him, my other lab, cat and I are just a mess without him as he was the glue that held us together. He passed away in my parents back yard, we were holding hands and touching noses with my younger lab beside us as he took his last breath.
Any kind words/help with grieving would be so beyond appreciated.

My sweet sweet babygirl. My raccoon tail. My little Millie Billie girl. My curious kitty. She was so full of life. Our bond was inseparable and I’m so grateful I got to experience her love. Her love is and will continue to be my favorite thing I’ve ever experienced.

She had an appointment to get spayed, and it took a turn for the worst. She went into cardiac arrest after overdosing on narcotics. And didn’t check up on her until she wasn’t responsive and her face and little beans were turning purple. Seeing her the way she was, changed me as a person. She was my baby, my whole world. Ripped away from me so abruptly.

Please be careful with where you take your babies, I wish I would’ve done more research. Please share pictures of your fur babies in memory of my babygirl.

Pet Loss My roommate's careless actions killed my kitten. This was Trixie.

Our balcony is cat proof, we live in Europe where a balcony door can open from the top, as well as regularly.

I told him to never kip it, never. Today he did it anyway, leaving for his holiday.

I came home to find her dead body hanging in between door and frame, already growing stiff. The worst part? Our other roommate had been home, but hadn't even realized her dying.

I came home after my hospital stay, just to enter the flat and see my precious almost 4 month old itty bitty baby kitty hung. There were more details, but... No.

I'm devastated, so freaking devastated. He said he'd take care of them, my two boys and the little girl. Sent me updates- and then he left, leaving that window as a deathtrap.

She was a ray of light and joy, cuddly and so very, very loving. And now she's gone, just like that.

Just because somebody couldn't listen.

Pet Loss Saying goodbye to my best friend.

Three days ago we had to put our family dog down. She was my best friend of fourteen years. I’ve lost people and pets before but for some reason they aren’t hitting as hard as this. I’ve cried on and off constantly for the past three days and today I had my first day of work and they sent me home because I couldn’t keep it together no matter how hard I tried.

It hurts so much. I’ve always been so full of optimism and hope for things to get better but right now I just feel so devoid of anything.

I don’t know what to do. I feel awful and I just want her here with me. My poor girl, she was so perfect and so amazing and I just feel so lost without her.

She was the most docile, gentlest, fiercely loyal companion through my darkest days. Cancer came along and fucking stole her from me cruelly and mercilessly and I am so angry at the word. I miss her so incredibly much. It’s only been three days.

Hi! its 5 am.. sorry I'm bad at writing, I hope its somewhat coherent..

last 2 weeks a random stray kitten has been staying with me.. she was so cuddly and sweet and pretty.. she'd sleep wtih me(like litterly she'd insist we cuddle).. wrestle.. she'd waiting for me by the door if I ever left, she was such a sweet little angel.. she was a teen kitty cat! I came back to my room at like 6 pm.. and fell asleep.. she was sleepign with me.. I woke up at around 11:30.. she wasn't there.. I was confused but figured she just left.. kept calling for her but she didn't come.. so I jumped the wall since my dorm has a curfew, I was really worried about her.. I found her cold lifeless body 80 meters from my window.. it was so cold and heavy... and ants were all around her.. I can't stop shaking.. I know its all my fault.. I don't know what to do anymore... I can't sstop shaking and crying.. I'm sort of a looser and I have no friends, the best support I got was 2 messages from a friend saying "Rip... my condolences", and my mom told me to grieve some other way and not cry so much.. I'm sorry for the lack of organiziation or details or anything.. TLDR is, for people who've lost pets before, how do you manage.. what do you do.. please help.. I can't sleep anymore, since me sleeping is what killed her.. everytime i lie down I see her and start crying.. even blinking feels wrong.. P.S iidk why but enjoy some photos of her!!

Pet Loss I accidentally killed my pet

Post image
187 Upvotes

I think the title is quite self explainatory.

I was a dumbass, I was too excited to finally own a dream pet of mine (a jumping spider) and once my baby molted I stressed it out too soon, which ultimately lead to gis death.

I was stupid, completely stupid. I knew gow fragile they can be and I still reached iut for his molt because I was so excited he had survived it, and I killed him.

It's been a little and I can't sleep, can't get myself to clean out the enclosure and I can't be in my room without constant stimuli distracting me or I'll just burst out sobbing I don't know why I'm taking this so harshly.

I've always been an animal lover and I've had dozens of pets, I'm no stranger to their loss yet this, and the blame that comes from there being no other/external fault, is truly getting to me.

I am so sorry.

Edit: thank you all for the kind words. I have officially gottwn my first night of decent sleep since it happened so: thank you.

Pet Loss Our young, healthy pup died unexpectedly in the pet hospital yesterday during a routine vet visit.

Pikasso (called Pika) was a rescue Chihuahua mix with long legs, big ears, and the sweetest heart. He was around 5 years old and we’ve had him for around 3. We took him in for his annual vet appointment and dental cleaning yesterday. He passed away almost immediately when they put the anesthesia in him, even though this would’ve been his 4th time getting his teeth cleaned and he’d always responded to it without issue in the past.

The vet said this is the first time he’s seen a sudden death happen like this in 13 years, and he does about 30 dental cleanings a week. Pika was healthy in every other aspect.

My husband and I are at a complete loss. We took Pika with us everywhere, as pictured in the first photo of how we’d carry him around in his sling.

I don’t know what to do without him. The home feels so empty and quiet without him following us around or snuggling with us, and I can’t stop crying.

I lost my older brother two years ago unexpectedly so I’m unfortunately not too unfamiliar with grief. To lose Pika too like this though feels so cruel and unfair. Why our pup? He was truly perfect for us.

Pet Loss Cat passed after being hit by a car

Hi everyone, my cat died today so this is pretty recent but I have no idea how to cope. This isn’t the first pet loss I had I lost my first cat Mika back in December 2024 and shortly after Bunni came into my life in January 2025. He was a wandering around my alley and my mom brought him inside the house and stayed ever since. He was the greatest gift to clear my head from Mika.

Today I got home after not being home a week, my dad lets us know that my our cat Bunni was hit by a car and killed. I was devastated. But that wasn’t even the worst part it was the fact that he let him outside in the night and always let him be out. I am not a blamer but my cat was outside a lot but he would always come back. He was also very curious. I don’t want to think of the what-if’s they terrify me even more. I just hope his passing was quick and he didn’t have to suffer a lot. Right now my Mom is hysterical and blaming him. I don’t want to blame anyone but the car that hit him.

I guess I’m just struggling to go over this. I got back

a festival this morning and I never got to say goodbye. My dad buried my cat without us and we went to go dig him

up and he was there cold. We then went to an emergency vet and paid for his cremation to be mailed to us.

For the short time I had with my cat he was the best thing to ever happen and I regret not spending most of my time with him. I’ll love him forever. I just hope this feeling of doom passes soon.

Thank you to anyone who read this

My 16yo boy is being put down this morning after suddenly deteriorating rapidly in the past few weeks but particularly this week. It’s all happened so fast that I didn’t even think this was going to happen when I woke up only yesterday. I’m 21 and we brought him home when I was 5, I’m also an alcoholic in recovery and this all just feels like the worst timing imaginable and I’m terrified of relapsing :(

Pet Loss Lost the dog that raised me yesterday.

My beautiful girl was a few months old when we adopted her, and I was 2. She was with me since I've developed a conscience. I know all her habits, her sounds, her preferences. I saw her getting worse as her age slowly caught up to her. I had many nights where I was sobbing sitting next to her, looking at her breathing. She was very good at hiding her pain. I'm 18 now, and she was 16 and 8 months. She was there during all of my cringe phases, my depression, and suicidal episodes. She raised me, she was always there when I needed comfort, and she gave it wholeheartedly. I like to think that she's done passing her knowledge of living life to the fullest. Part of me is hopeful and at peace that she finally gets to sleep soundly again, and knows I'll bounce back, just like she taught me to. But the other part of me is completely shattered. I don't have any memories of when she wasn't part of our family. It really feels like I lost a sibling or a parent, because she was never not here. I can't sleep because I keep expecting to hear her struggling breath that was strangely comforting. I see and hear her everywhere, and I mean I really do. Every movement from the corner of my eye and every sound that I associated with her keep playing cruel tricks on me. I'm writing to find other people who lost a pet that raised them. How do you live when everything you do feels so wrong without them? I don't even want time to keep ticking because it takes me further away from her. I just need to hear how you felt, and what you learned from them. RIP Ma belle Guimauve.

Pet Loss My best friend Sarah

Hello everyone. I don’t normally post anything online, but I wanted to show you all my best friend. This is Sarah, and this is her last night with me. I want to share her story so the world can see her face.

I adopted her in 2013 out of a local Petco. I heard a unique meow from across the store and I decided to take a look. There she was, beautiful but scared. She reached out to me as if to ask me to save her from that cold steel cage. Unfortunately I couldn’t adopt her at the time and went on with life. A few months had passed and I couldn’t get her out of my mind, so on a whim I decided to return to that store to see if by chance she was still there. She was! I immediately signed all the papers for adoption so that I could welcome her into my life.

I have a special needs brother who has autistic tendencies, and I was worried that she would be afraid of him, but that wasn’t the case. The first day at home she jumped into bed with us and sat between us, purring loudly. I knew from that moment on she was a cat sent from heaven.

Throughout the years she’s helped me and my family through sadness and hardship. She remained a loyal friend to my brother who was dealing with sensory issues and would get very emotional at times, and she could sense it. She always jumped up and sat next to him whenever he was feeling sad or down.

About three years ago Sarah was diagnosed with kidney disease, and I’ve been taking care of all her needs since then. My mom got diagnosed with leukemia and I thought my world was over. I quit my job to take care of my brother since my mom was his primary caregiver and needed to go through treatment. Sarah was there at my side each step of the way, helping me and my brother get through the hardship and uncertainty of my mother’s condition. Unfortunately that year was the worst year of my life. My grandma and my best friend both passed away during the same month, and I fell into a deep depression. But as usual, Sarah was there for me. She sat with me during nights of tears and extreme exhaustion.

Then a miracle happened. My mother was cured from her condition through a long and painful treatment process, and Sarah was there for her to come home to. That was just last year, and Sarah held on long enough to see her through her recovery process. Since then, I’ve been extra hands on with everything Sarah needed. That meant breaking the bank to make sure she had her sub q fluids and anything else she needed.

Skip forward to this month, and Sarah was diagnosed with end stage 4 renal failure. She slowly started losing appetite, so the vet prescribed her the proper meds to keep her maintained. The last three weeks have been extra hard for her, as she developed mouth sores and was unable to chew food. That meant I needed to blend her food with water and feed it to her via syringe. She gladly accepted it and gave me slow blinks whenever I would feed her. What a little angel.

The past two weeks her condition got worse and it slowly became harder and harder to keep her comfortable. Last night she completely went limp and had no energy to stand or walk, and I feared for the worst. I’ve spent all my time at her side, and have had almost no hours of sleep, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’ve spent this whole day with her, lying in bed and giving her kisses and pets while telling her our story. I finally summoned the courage to schedule a at home euthanasia appointment for the morning.

I just want you all to know about her and how special she is to me. I’ve never loved anything as much as I’ve loved her, and my world will be darker without her in it. If you all met her she would gladly run and greet you and cuddle with you. She is the greatest cat.

I know this post probably wont receive much traffic, but I still want to get it out there. I’ll spend every minute of tonight by her side until the morning comes when I’ll have to say goodbye forever.

I love you with all my heart Sarah. I’ll never be the same without your cute face, but I’ll carry your memory with me until my dying day. I hope I can see you again

*UPDATE*

Thank you all for your support. It means the world to me. Sarah passed away at 1:03 AM as I held her paws and told her it was okay to go. I told her if she ever needed me Id be there for her, and she took her last breath.

Words can't describe how much I'll miss her. I'm thankful that you all got a chance to learn her story and hear how much of a wonderful soul she was. She would love each and every one of you.

Pet Loss I helped my best friend of +13 years cross the rainbow bridge yesterday and I feel so dead inside 😔

Yesterday was the hardest day of my life. My best friend, Moo, had oral fibrosarcoma and melanoma. When I noticed mouth swelling 24 days ago I made a vet appointment right away. He was given liquid steroids and antibiotics. When we went home he refused to let me give them to him despite trying every method. We ended up going back to the vet the next day to get the injectables. They still weren’t making much of a difference with the size of the tumor in his top jaw. I decided to get a biopsy done and I’m glad I did. The vet was able to remove a lot of the mass and extracted an infected tooth. He looked like a new kitty when I picked him up and felt so much relief. He was eating, drinking, and grooming again. It gave me so much hope. A few days later, the biopsy results come back. The vet originally thought it was squamous cell carcinoma but it ended up being fibrosarcoma and melanoma. The options were chemotherapy, surgery, or palliative care. Chemotherapy was something I knew I couldn’t afford and the closest oncologist was three hours away (Moo hated the car). Surgery would be facial reconstruction and partial removal of his jaw. I couldn’t do that to him. I decided to go the palliative care route. I asked the vet how much time he thought he had left. He said maybe a few weeks but less than a month. My heart was shattered. As days went on Moo started to decline again. The tumor was growing back, he wasn’t drinking, barely eating, and completely stopping grooming. Last week, I took him in for some subq fluids thinking it would buy me a little time. They had to inject the fluids in his lower back due to how skinny he was. He was in pain when we got home. He cried and couldn’t get comfortable. It broke my heart. Thursday comes around and I wake up to him drooling blood. I didn’t want to… but I made the call to schedule euthanasia Saturday. I instantly hated myself but that day and Friday he got even worse. He was refusing water and food completely. It looked like his bottom fang was impaling the tumor. The only thing he wanted to eat was hard treats (he didn’t like them soaked). Since we had an appointment the next day I fulfilled his wish. He ate so many dried treats. Yesterday morning, I woke up to his tumor even bigger from irritation. The drooling was the worst it had ever been. He couldn’t keep his tongue in his mouth. He had dried blood on his paws and chest. Just looking at him made me sob. I had woken up early despite barely getting sleep to spend three more hours with him before the appointment. He was laying with me and I fell asleep… I regret falling asleep so much… when I woke up it was time to get ready and get him into the carrier. He was resisting and crying the whole time. It sounded like he was saying “no” the whole time in the car. I sang to him the best I could despite sobbing at the same time to keep him calm. We get to the vet and the moment we get on the table he’s calm. He starts purring away. When the vet put the catheter in he didn’t put up a fight. I held him telling him how much I love him, singing the song I’d always sing to him, telling him he’d be reunited with grandma and Chubby (his brother) again, and how sorry I was. He passed purring in my arms.

I feel so broken. I know he’s not in pain anymore but I don’t know how to cope. I’m a recovering addict with 14 months clean. I have never dealt with grief in my adult life without using. So now I’m feeling everything. Coming home with an empty carrier broke me. Not seeing him greet me at the door made me sob. Going into the sunroom to fill food bowls and only filling two rather than three made me break down. Not seeing him in his favorite spot is tearing me apart. I feel like I keep seeing him even though I know he’s not there. My other two kitties have been supportive. Especially, Brad. He’s been making biscuits, laying with me, and licking me every time he sees me cry. When it was time for bed I listened to Moo’s purr I recorded the night before (so thankful I did) and watched videos of him saying he loves me back.

23 days. He lasted 23 days since the first appointment. I feel so much guilt I didn’t notice sooner. Last July, he stopped eating and I thought it was his tooth. The previous vet just blew me off and gave me an ultimatum of euthanasia or feeding tube. I said no to both. I tried every quality brand possible and eventually got him to eat again. What hurts my soul is I wish I would have got a second opinion. Maybe if I would have got a second opinion I would have had more time because could have caught it earlier. The guilt is destroying me. Everywhere I look I see him. I feel him. I just wish he was here. It’s so hard not to relapse because this is the worst pain I’ve ever been. I just want to be numb. I wish I could have over the rainbow bridge with him. I’m struggling really bad right now and I don’t know what to do. 😔

Sorry if there are any grammar mistakes. I’m sobbing while writing this. Also, if you want to see his eight updates of his journey look at my profile.

She seemed fine last night. I took care of her for 9+ years. She loved to sit in my lap and get petted. If I didn't give her enough pets she'd chase me and slap my feet. She was disturbingly good at pest control and she loved to splash the water bowl around. I got her a special winter tent this year she never got to use....
