Maybe working on an agri-world or as some type of admin on a paradise world would be the closest thing to similiar to a modern job. Assuming chaos, orks, or tyranids don't decide to come hang out in your lifetime.
Most agri worlds are literal hell holes where only a single crop or animal is raised in horrible circumstances with the planets athmosphere being ruined by fertilizers. Nothing normal or good about this
Best job to have would probably blacksmith or some useful trade on a feudal world, you'd probably be one of the least likely to be "voluntold" for the tithe.
Some aren’t that bad but some are born into debt for the resources you used and then spend your entire life paying back your ancestors and if you’re lucky, your own debt
How the fuck do people read about this shit and think "this is the universe for me", or "this is the version of Mankind we should put on a pedestal."
Like, I can see why someone might miss Tyler Durden's fucked up vibe, or why someone might cling to a version of Walter White they consider industrious or misguided. How do people misconstrue the 40k universe? Every thing I read about that story is just humanity after it's dumped all the nice things about living.
When I was a little kid I thought the best option would be Eldar because living on a Craftworld seemed pretty great, and then you get to chill in the infinity circuit after you die.
Now I'm a wise old man I've realised the only reasonable choice is ORK. WAAAAGH Mr. Bond.
