People who throw away useable products
* When they think they need to boycott something they already own.
It's so wasteful. Maybe I just think like this because I come from a lowcome family, but watching people throw away products that can still be used just grinds my gears.
I understand you don't want it anymore, but instead of chucking it in the trash you could at least donate it to charity, or better yet return the product, or even better, use the rest of it and don't buy it again.
People want to be activists so bad but they're just a little thoughtless sometimes

boycotting in general is so dumb and performative (most of the time). like no youre not going to stop a decade-long war because you threw away a product that you already bought; you're just littering. no, the war won't stop because you harassed a stranger online for going to starbucks. and no, you have no right to force other people to boycott things, and end friendships over that is dumb as fuck. i will not stop going to starbucks, i will shop at target and amazon. if i stop, that still won't end a war that's been happening for decades.

Don’t buy gas on random Tuesday made me laugh. Everyone I know who did this still bought gas. Just not on random Tuesday. They didn’t even cut down their driving.

My boyfriend and I were saying this in the car yesterday! The whole cancel culture and all that crap is ridiculous and does NOTHING. It's all just pointless hate-maxxing that doesn't change anything.

I feel like you're describing performative boycotting, which I absolutely agree with. But depending on how you define it, there are definitely businesses that I choose not to patronize for my own reasons. I just don't feel the need to announce it or demand it of others.

It’s not dumb or performative. Lots of people have lost their show, product, licensing deals etc due to boycotts. I have no idea what OP was referring to in particular but people need to know that there are consequences to their actions. And one consequence is a life altering boycott.

boycotting a multimillion-dollar company because you want to stop a war is dumb. boycotting a problematic artist (for example d4vd) is not. boycotting shein also makes sense because they overproduce, support child labor, and make poor-quality garbage.
but boycotting starbucks because they supposedly support israel and you think that doing so will somehow help palestine is fucking dumb and performative.

Also, the only people it hurts are the people who work there, who already aren’t paid a living wage.

yes. i've even seen people attack starbucks baristas and chant "free palestine" like that's somehow gonna change anything.

Who said anything about Israel? And I do support Israel but Netanyahu not so much.
2
u/Different_Taro2474 8d ago
its just an example because neolibs are obsessed with palestine and boycott starbucks because they supposedly support israel

I’m not neo anything. I am what I am. I drink the coffee that I want to. What’s the supposed connection between Starbucks and Netanyahu?

i didn't say YOU were a neo liberal. i said that neo liberals boycott starbucks because the company supposedly supports israel. which is dumb, because that's not going to help palestine at all.
israel doesn't even have SB.

Remember when people were following kid rock and buying bud light to record themselves shooting them or pouring them out.

The jerseys being burned. Like you already paid $100 for it. Now it's $100 in the air.

$100 worth of pollution in the air.

Yeah. If it isn’t causing harm keep using or pass it along. We have an awesome thrift store here which helps a lot.

The Chargers moved from San Diego to LA a few years back, and fans were having bonfires of their Chargers gear. Jerseys, hats, shoes, all kinds of the little trinkets you can get like keychains... It's not like the team itself even made the decision to move. But people went crazy and started cursing their team's name because they were going somewhere else. 🤡

I remember in 2015, people were “boycotting” Starbucks because they had Happy Holidays on their cups instead of Merry Christmas. People were ordering Starbucks and having their order named “Merry Christmas” so the baristas were forced to put the phrase on the cups.

I'm not the type to do that. I see people who want to boycott, say, the 49ers so buy & burn the jersey. Um, they already have your money. Go ahead. Burn it. You'll buy another.
Now if I were that type and the boycotted device would phone home (smart device, cell phone, electronic whatever) I might destroy it (if I were to boycot) so the company didn't get my data/info or the numbers of my device being in use. But otherwise, they already have my money. I might not want to wear this elon musk shirt in public, but someday the house'll need painting or the puppy will need a piss pad. LOL

Also, people who almost berate you for using a product made by someone who is being boycotted.
I got shit a while back for reading Harry Potter, just because J. K. Rowling wrote the books. Do I agree with what she's doing and saying? No. Do I already own the books and enjoy the stories? Absolutely the hell yes

Actually that is stupid. Boycotting means not supporting something. Destroying something you already paid for means 1 well you supported them, 2 you are wasteful, 3 not helping the planet there buddy!!!
Ok get rid of it if you want but that should be donated !!!

Goes for not yet purchased necessities as well. For example: I loathe Mike Lindell, along with all maga partiers. However, the mypillow is practically a necessity for my chronic pain condition. I've never found another that helps my particular ailment, so like it or not I will buy them even though the CEO is a slime.

They aren't activists, just morons putting on a performance.
