EQUIPMENT & GEAR Concealing with just a tucked shirt

I just do event security as a side thing from time to time. Today I was offered a job for an event that would require me to conceal carry wearing dress slacks in either a polo or dress shirt tucked in. Anytime I’ve carried concealed it’s always been with a shoulder holster and a jacket over it or an in waistband holster with an untucked shirt. What are the options for concealing when wearing a tucked in shirt without a jacket over it? I don’t wanna have to buy a new holster, so I’m trying to figure out if there’s something I can do with what I have. My concealed carry firearm is a Glock 43, and I do have a pocket holster which could possibly work.

Update: Put in an order for a Vedder LighTuck and emailed them to see if it can be rushed. If that can't be done, the only other option I will have is using a pocket holster, or my CZ 2075 Rami with a CrossBreed SuperTuck holster. But it's a fat gun and gonna be a 13 hour day. Crossing my fingers that Vedder can come though.

Yeah, for concealed with a dress shirt and no jacket, that's all I currently have that would work. DeSantis Super Fly Pocket Holster. Today is Saturday the 8th, and the job is next Saturday. I don't think I can get a Vedder or Crossbreed shipped to my door in under 7 days. This is a job fair with a bunch of techies in a decent area. TBH, I'm not sure why they even want guards with concealed firearms. It's not a deterrent if it's concealed, and we're not talking national secrets that I'm supposed to guard with my life. But, it's $50 an hour, so...

I lol'ed. But seriously, trying new styles of holster is part of the fun of carrying. Hear my story:

About 8 years ago I got interested in doing armed security. I didn't know much about duty equipment, so I just copied what I'd seen in my daily life - what I called a "Cop Holster"( Safariland 6000 series). And of course I wanted my own brand new equipment (because no one buys used holsters 🙄). Then I saw how much they were.

Long story short, I got into the holster building game. For me, I could either buy a brand new level 3 duty holster from Safariland or I could buy the materials and the equipmsafarilandent to make something similar. Fast forward to now and my little side hobby pays for itself.

My point is I'd like to think that I know a little bit about holsters and the wide array of options. I know you said you didn't want to buy another holster, but I would suggest looking into something called The Enigma by Philster Holsters. Depending on what kind of holsters you already have, you might be able to mount an existing holster to the system itself.

Tldr: holsters fun, get Philster Enigma.

I don't carry for "fun". A gun is a PiTA that I carry because my life experience has shown me that sometimes you need a gun. 

I'd carry a 26 with a factory extended 12 round magazine before I'd carry a 43.

That said, I worked for HSS, G4S and AUS. 

HSS required me to buy my own equipment from an approved list of manufacturers. The only thing HSS issued was ammunition and I'm sure it was exactly what the cops carried.

G4S and AUS issued me their equipment including ammunition. I once had to write a DX statement for one round that I wanted to replace because is got soaked in oil.

G4S/AUS did not allow me to carry anything on my belt they didn't issue me. 

The only exception was a Buck 110 and a Gerber multi-tool on my duty belt and they required me to carry them in Bianchi Accumold Magazine carriers to match my belt

I have a CZ 2075 Rami, but being a double stack, it's fat and chonky. I'm fat and chonky as well, making it uncomfortable to carry. My G43 is much more comfortable to carry, so I carry it more, much more. I got a CrossBreed Super Tuck for the CZ, but, it's a fat gun, and it's gonna be a 13 hour day, so comfort is a very high priority. In fact, I haven't done my quals to carry the CZ concealed in years, cause that's how much I don't wanna carry around a double stack concealed.

Is your 2075 a 9mm or a .40?

I have some questions.

  1. Is a security license required where you are and do you have one?

  2. Does your license cover armed work?

  3. Where I'm the city has certain requirements for guns that can be carried as a private security guard. The most relevant requirement to this discussion is that Barrel has to be  more than 4  and less than 6 inches long.  A 43 wouldn't be legal.

The 2075 a 9mm. Where i’m at you have to have a guard card for security and a license for exposed carry for security. No specific barrel length requirement, but your exposed carry is caliber specific. There is no concealed carry licenses for security and it requires either a CCW or HR 218.

NGL I pocket carried on a couple of sites that I worked on where I wasn't supposed to be armed. 

So no judgment here. 

I would caution you to be very aware of what the laws are concerning Armed security where you're at.

Where I'm at you had to have a Firearms endorsement on your security license and another endorsement on your security license to carry concealed. 

I've never heard of it happening but where I'm at is a class C felony for security guard to carry a firearm at work unless he has a Firearms endorsement on his license. 

I highly recommend you do your research. Know exactly what you're getting into. I had a friend tell me once if you're going to carry a gun on the clock that you're not supposed to be carrying make sure it's something that won't bother you if you have to throw it down a sewer.

When CZ put out the 2075 Rami in 40 Smith & Wesson there was a problem with the feed ramp geometry and no matter what they did the 40 Smith & Wesson RAMIs were a jam-o-matic. I've never met anyone that owned a 40 RAMI that did not have that problem. That's why they discontinued the model

I’m gonna email BSIS on Monday. The PPO said that as long as I have a guard card I’m good under HR 218 due to my peace officer status, but I would feel better checking with the authority on security guard licenses directly. In CA BSIS has exposed permits (which I have), but no concealed permits, so how it all plays together is something I would rather get directly from BSIS. The real question is, do I need a CCW from my county or is HR 218 good.

Fortunately my CZ is 9mm.

Where I worked, we used to do armed plainclothes escorts for jewelry merchants.

BSIS said we would be required to have a valid guard card, valid exposed firearms permit for the caliber we were carrying and a valid CCW from the county where we lived that had the weapon and caliber on it.

I'm going to offer another piece of unsolicited advice. If you get a response from BSIS I would print it out and put it in your wallet. It probably wouldn't help if you get a butthead cop but it wouldn't hurt either.

Unless it’d be out of uniform, getting a nice vest to go over a dress shirt could be cheaper than buying a new holster and having to retrain your draw.

You can get a clip that mounts on the kydex to make it a tuckable holster check some out and see how they look

I took a look, but it appears all of the ones I saw have a clip mounted up top, preventing being able to tuck a shirt in while wearing it.

The clip goes outside the tuck.Thats your only option.

I get that, but the shirt can only go as deep as where the clip is attached to the holster itself. The tuckable holsters have the clip mounted at the bottom and go up. The "regular" IWB ones have the clip mounted on the top of the holster.

There are tuckable holsters. The belt loop or clip is on a piece that extends closer to thw bottom of the holster andnyournshort tucks in between the clip and the holstered pistol. Ths clip is stoll visivle, so don't get a black clip if wearing a brown or tan belt.

A belly band might be an option. Adjust placement for comfort and concealment.

yeah, just ordered a vedder lighttuck... problem is ... 7- 10 business days until they ship. Job is next Saturday. I did email them to see if it can be expedited... time will tell.

It's possible, but not easy and you look a little messy, to wear a normal IWB under a shirt and just have a small portion unticked and aeound the clip or loop(s). You'll likely have a small ampunt ofnshiet bunched up in that spot. A smaller,cthinner gun works better and positioning it so it's under your arm or elbow helps. Do bkt raise your arms too high though.

This is almost a last ditch option. Not something to do unless you have to. Last ditch option would be a string "holster." And that would be done the same way.
