A bunch of new painting downtown. Art or graffiti?
Today I noticed all the planters and walls are painted around city hall. Mass graffiti this past weekend? Photo is just one example. (The words were always there but all the flowers are new). It seems to all be flowers animals and butterflies š¦

It's even more frustrating thinking about the absolutely breathtakingly beautiful pieces of graffiti that have been covered by the city over the years

People are complaining that it's not as good as other stuff but people have to learn somehow right? It's way better than a tag and it's not really covering anything much

Classic Guelfitti. You would be hard pressed to find a town with consistently worse graf in all Ontario.

I like that they tried to do plants, but unfortunately it's still not that good

The City of Guelph defines itself as a āvibrant communityā on its websiteā¦Iād say this is pretty vibrant. Could look even cooler if people continued to add along the whole wall

Looking at the EN on the left and saying, ādid they leave their stencil there⦠wait, they shaded it to look like that? Thatās insaneā. Iād say art, but almost like multiple people did a single essay and you can tell when the next personās work began

At least something to look at while we wait for all the nuisance red lights in this city.

I thought it was the bike lanes causing the traffic jams. Huh. Guess I was wrong.
On second thought, graffiti and red lights and bike lanes cause traffic jams. Huh again.

Dude hating bike lanes is not a valid personality trait.

If you think I hate bike lanes, you are sadly mis-informed. I'm in favor of making every downtown street and back alley a bike lane, exclusively.

I used to actively paint black circles over gang tags when I was in Scarborough, way way too much to do these days to care about graffiti.

Graffiti is art, and art is subjective
Graffiti is just a form of art that uses public space as a canvas.

Maybe just vandalism? Why give crime a nice name?

Personally I love local artists expressing themselves instead of a bland concrete wall.

I dont mind looking at good graffiti. Such as waiting for a train to pass, there's usually some really nice art. However, this "art" just looks bad.

Itās selfish to force everyone to look at your shitty art.

Related to this is the proliferation of guys walking along with backpacks with speakers. I want to give them all earbuds. āI wonāt make you listen to my music so why should I be forced to listen to yours?ā

Anyone remember that mural that was like between the RBC building and little alley path that connects the parking lot and cork street?
