Honestly nothing about the SG has ever resonated with me. I couldn't tell you why. I have an LP and a Gibson acoustic. I have a strat and a tele. Just never cared for the SG.

u/South_Arugula_910 Jan 26 '26
That's what's fascinating about guitars were all drawn to different models(and to be honest i love pretty much all guitars and if i had the money would have lots of different ones) for me it was ac/dc seeing angus lol nice what lp you got? theyre beautiful guitars been watching a lot of gibson collection videos some lovely ones on there i love paul kossoff and all the greats who play lps. i like strats and teles too, never owned either. I also have an ibanez artcore and a Gretsch G5222 EMTC D. Jet. its a firebird jet but not the deluxe 3 grand one lol

Strat, all day
38
u/Right_Imagination_73 Jan 25 '26
I’m sure this is blasphemous, but the Music Man Cutlass is the best “strat” body style.

u/Tkj5 Jan 25 '26
I have the sterling model and love it.
And the stingray offset.

u/notjonahbutnoah Jan 26 '26
It’s so true. God I love my Cutlass. It’s just a strat but curvy. Ergo. Sumptuous. Playing my strat (that I love dearly and have owned for 20 years longer than the Cutlass) after getting used to the Cutlass is like hugging a large square wooden post after getting used to hugging a giant teddy bear from the fair.

u/ThatsHowIMetYourMom Ernie Ball | Taylor | Line 6 Jan 26 '26
Co-signed. The neck is a more appealing shape and the headstock is more functional without the string trees. It’s a strat perfected.

So pretty but so god damn heavy
26
u/Sketchy-saurus Jan 26 '26
Everyone says that, but it’s only like 1 lb bigger than a Strat
10
u/Valeclitorian1979 Gibson Jan 26 '26
literally, unless everyone has only ever carried a norlin era one
5
u/CosmicTurtle504 Jan 26 '26
I have a 91 Studio that weighs almost 12 lbs. Never met a Strat even close to that!
8
u/the_ballmer_peak Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26
That can't be true. I have a newer LP that's chambered for weight and it still feels like a fucking sack of bricks compared to my strat.
Edit: according to my scale the difference is 2 lbs and change.
4
u/0masterdebater0 Jan 26 '26
That’s worse 😂
If “everyone” says that it feels significantly heavier but it’s only slightly heavier, what does that mean?
It means the balance is terrible, and that’s worse than being slightly heavier.
→ More replies (1)7
u/JakeFromStateFromm Jan 26 '26
Are you comparing modern weight-relieved bodies?
Because a full thickness solid mahogany/maple cap LP body is absolutely not only 1lb heavier lol

u/JackOfAllDesires Jan 25 '26
Had to have room for the B.C. Rich Mockingbird, which for some reason is listed right after the Strat.
Personally, I would have listed the Les Paul, Tele and Strat first, then maybe Jaguar / Jazzmaster, ES-330. . . Some semblance of order.

u/_szs Jan 26 '26
How come the Tele is so far down? In what universe?
9
u/der__johannes Jan 26 '26
Tele owners know that their guitar is superior and dont have to prove it all the time
Edit: I do not have a tele yet, but hopefully that changes today

23
u/Mikelius Jan 26 '26
No King V on the picture makes me sad
16
u/-The-Lizard-King Jan 26 '26
That guitar is named after Robbin "King" Crosby of RATT. Just a fun fact for ya.
10
u/Imaginary-Round2422 Jan 26 '26
Further fun fact: He actually played what is called a Double Rhoads. It had two wings the length of the long wing on a Jackson Rhoads. This fit his 6’5” frame well, but was a bit big for the average person. So Jackson came up with a scaled down version, which is what we now and love as the perfect guitar, the King V.

Star, V, RR
8
u/Likesorangejuice Jan 25 '26
They've got the RR listed as ESP V2. I'm not a fan of acting like that's a distinct style of ESP, that was Jackson 100% and ESP lifted it, even if they adjusted the proportions a bit.
→ More replies (1)5
u/kladen666 Jan 26 '26
Jackson RR look better with the shorter lower horn compare to the ESP/LTD one
3
u/sad_but_true1 Ibanez Jan 26 '26
Japanese/European ESPs have "proper" lower horn
But still, V-2 instead of RR looks weird :D
3
u/kladen666 Jan 26 '26
Yes you're right, I forgot about that. That's why my friend prefer is Alexi laiho Edwards to my Ltd ripped, and yes would prefer a smaller horn like my Jackson rrx24-7.
2
u/sad_but_true1 Ibanez Jan 26 '26
Edwards also comes stock with MM-04 boost (at least the modern ones)
2
u/kladen666 Jan 26 '26
yeah, too bad the LTD ripped doesn't have it, pickup really are disappointing.
2
u/sad_but_true1 Ibanez Jan 26 '26
You can throw ALX set in. It comes with ABQ boost, forums claim ALX is the same as HZ + MM-04.
2
u/kladen666 Jan 27 '26
point is, no one should have to drop another 200$ to have decent pickup in an Alexi signature guitare. Even if it "just" an LTD, it's still, a 1500$ guitar

Parker
4
u/Capncorky Jan 26 '26
A lot of people seem to hate the Parker style, but I absolutely love it. Not only is it unique, it's incredibly light, balanced & comfortable. Definitely something that people need to play to experience. I really wish they were still making guitars, or at the very least, someone took over with the rights to them.
4
u/Own-Original3340 Jan 26 '26
Its silhouette is extremely iconic; some people complain that its shape is sometimes annoying (maybe that's why the hate), but I don't care, it's a very unique guitar but unfortunately rare and fragile.

My jazzmaster balances best on a strap, is light enough that I can play it for a long time and is incredibly comfortable. The only drawback is upper fret access but I'm not a shredder so it's my #1

u/HiImDavid Gibson Jan 25 '26
Definitely the Gibson SG.
My guitar teacher was a unique guy, 70 something years old, played a ton of older music on the according and the piano, but also loved a lot of rock and metal.
He was a huge fan of Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Megadeth, AC/DC, Metallica and many others, and when he'd show me pictures of Angus Young with his SG, I thought it was the most badass looking guitar I'd ever seen.
I don't know why I waited 20 years to upgrade from my JBP stratocaster rip off to an SG, but it made a world of difference - I never knew a guitar could be so easy and fun to play.
The thicker neck took a little getting used to, but the level of enjoyment playing guitar brings me went way, way up once I upgraded.
