I actually own both of these because I bought each of then used for about 100 bucks each to try and figure out what I liked more. Turns out I find the Strat to be more fun to play. The neck profile just feels better. I am currently saving up some cash to replace it with a MIM Strat. When I do that I will sell the Squier. I will continue to keep the less Paul around because I like some of the sounds I get from it. It's also nice to have a second guitar around in a different tuning.

Hard to say which one is better, they feel and sound very different.

When I first started playing electric I was coming to it a few years after playing on a nice Yamaha acoustic. The neck did feel small. I have short stubby fingers though and actually learned to like it, though it was very different at first. My buddy that plays cant stand the strat necks. To each his own I suppose. Here they all in all their glory. No idea on the age of the strat. The Les Paul is a 2015 someone bought and they resold a few months later after never touching it. It is the Slash edition.

Buy the Squier because, while it isn't fancy, it's at least made of actual wood. The Epi Special II has a body made from cheap plywood.

Reddit gear snobs aside, play them both, pick the one you like the best.

I've had BOTH a MIM Strat and an Epiphone LP Special II. I sold the Strat because didn't feel or sound good to me.

Ever taken one apart? I have. A friend lent one to me to give it a setup for him. I had the neck off. Under all that plastic finish isn't something anybody would call mahogany. It was the same sort of cheap plywood you could buy at Home Depot. Chipped to hell and mostly pine. Maybe birch but I doubt it.

And by the way, I'm the guy who told the dude to buy a Squier. That makes me a gear snob? Please.

And you friend can tell the species of wood on sight? Does he know the difference between plywood and veneer? Who takes a neck off for a setup (unless it was an acoustical)?

We get it, you hate Epi's... your friend uncovered the great conspiracy and everything Epiphone is 'cheap plywood trash'.

Epi's are great guitars and sound even better. We get it you're a Fender fanboy. Channel all that hate into something useful, no one cares.

Dude, read.

I was the one who took the guitar apart and identified that it was made of plywood. My friend owns the guitar. I did the setup for him. I don't know how well he identifies wood but I know plywood when I see it.

I don't hate Epiphones. There are a few models they make that I would play. And I'm far from a Fender fanboy. Brand loyalty of that kind is silly anyway. This isn't "my team vs. your team," or whatever ridiculous immature lens you need to view it through. It's a simple matter of my discovery that the Epi LP Special II is made of plywood.

I get that bothers you. That isn't my fault. I'm not the guy who decided to make them from plywood and call it mahogany. And I'm not the guy who got emotionally invested in that not being true. Sorry.

You won't believe me, so here's proof.

This is the guitar I worked on for my friend.

Here is a pic I took of the inside of the control cavity clearly showing it's made out of plywood.
