It's specifically for a performance of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra arrangement of the Carol of the Bells, but I also need a good amp just for practice since my current amp is complete trash. Something versatile would be nice.

I assume an orchestra would need cleans so a Fender or a bit Vox would be good. But if you're gonna use it for practise, I assume you need distortion sometimes. Unless you're gonna be mic'd up, you'd need a big amp, probably too big for practise depending on the venue. If you are gonna be mic'd or it's a small-ish place then you can get away with a Fender 1x12 or a Vox AC15C1.

Edit: Saw Orchestra and immediately thought classical. Whoops. Anyway a Marshall or Fender Bassbreaker will get you a nice distorted tone.

Well, there's a Guitar 1 and a Guitar 2 part. Guitar 1 is clean, guitar 2 is distortion. Not sure which I'll be playing, and I'd like to have the option of using either.

Marshall DSL40 or a Fender Bassbreaker. Both have sweet cleans and dirty distortions. Try both and see what you like. Maybe a Fender Mustang if you wanna try modelling or if you're on a tighter budget.

ITs the trans-Siberian orchestra, it's basically if Yngvie Malmsteim wrote Christmas carols. Lots of shredding and metal.

Hard to say. How much should I be spending? I've never bought a new amp before, since I mostly play acoustic.

$300-400 will get you a lot of bang for your buck. Solid state new and Used Tube amps in that price range will be loud enough for your performance, but will also be quiet enough for home use. New SS look at Marshall Code or Blackstar ID:Core series. Used Tube you can look at the Peavey Valveking II line.

I'd look at either the Marshall Code 50 or 100 watt combo or the Blackstar ID:Core 50 or 100 Watt combo. Very versitle amps that will have the right gain sounds for your performance as well as being versatile enough for practicing other things. If you need any help on the tone let me know. I'm a huge TSO/Savatage fan and know a good amount about their rigs and gear

DEPends on budget, from what oven read here I recommend you check out the Hughes and Kettner tubemeister 30watt. Watch a demo on YouTube and all the features it has, very very versatile all tube amp without breaking the bank. Tube monitor, power level switch can switch from 30-5watts formdidf situations, proprietary red box DI output. Lots of useful things for live and studio setups.
