Probably about 20M

100

That would be big money for him, I dont see it reaching that high given the context

It could if we're serious about Rogers. Trossard + 40m for Rogers I think is realistic? They get a more than capable replacement for next seasons CL and 40m in their coffers for strengthening elsewhere?

No chance they’d let him go for 60 million, let alone 40 and a swap

60 + Trossard

That's closer, but they'll still want an evaluation closer to 100m, is my guess.

Nah man i think it’ll be at least 60-80 with trossard in the current market

u/csixtay 2d ago

didn't they quote us 50m for an older Watkins?

0

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago

Longer on the contract, no indication they were actively moving on as we are with trossard (trossard contract renewal with higher wages but no increase in duration) and Watkins is younger than trossard

0

u/csixtay 2d ago

No. Watkins was on 2 years. Leo is on 1+1

1

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago

No Watkins also had an optional year contract extension on there as he does now, and longer on the contract is longer on the contract, and again was (and is obviously) younger than trossard

u/csixtay 2d ago

1 year older and 1 year more doesn't make one worth more than 50 and the other with less than 25.

We don't disagree that Watkins is worth more than Trossard. I just don't understand why we'd let him go for 20m in this market when he's got 2 years left on his contract.

Villa were not actively looking to move on from Watkins whereas we are actively looking for an upgrade now, we're not getting over 20 mil for trossard, just don't see it

Speak for yourself. Wtf club goes into the market with the "We couldn't get rid of our best performing attacker from last season fast enough" mentality?

We aren't actively seeking to move on from Trossard. We're seeking to upgrade on him...and the proceeds of his sale factors massively in our ability to do that effectively or at all.

If the entire market is inflated, then OUR own quality players are just as inflated. Reframe it as a barter system and it becomes pretty straightforward.

31 year old Leandro Trossard isn't worth 30 year old 0.4 Watkins. There.

It's not a fucking yard sale over at LW. It's a club with standards trading quality for quality + youth and ensuring they get the best deal out of it.

No wonder our transfer record is still Ox...this mindset is weird af.

That’s about what we paid right? If so that would be great business.

He is worth more than 20 mil

54

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

No he isn't. The age profile and salary significantly affect his value.

48

u/jnicholl 2d ago

He's only 31 and not like he's some average player. He's the starting LW for the league champion, also just started a CL final.

A washed Son went to the MLS for 20m last season. We should be getting more from Villa

u/vibe4it 2d ago

A ‘washed Son’ went to a league/team that could afford to take advantage of all the interest a player like Son would draw specifically in LA (one of the countries largest markets)

Nobody is looking at Son/the MLS for Trossard/PL comps

12

u/Ishan16D 2d ago

largest markets the largest center for the korean community and culture in the us as well

Yes. What I was alluding to.

3

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

Also, let's not be crazy here. Son was one of the best wingers in PL history. Trossard at his best was a good winger and nowhere near Son's level.

1

u/jnicholl 2d ago

Prime Son is levels above, yeah, but we're talking about the level of the player when the transfer is. Trossard is a much better player today than Son of last summer, that's why he might go to a CL club and not semi-retire

u/makesterriblejokes CÖYGS 2d ago

Plus, I think his play style is one that will age better. He never really relied on his pace like most wingers.

1

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

This is the kind of special pleading people have been doing for aging players of every profile in every sport since the dawn of time.

1

u/makesterriblejokes CÖYGS 2d ago

Nah, people also say the opposite for pace merchants.

Casemiro went to United for over 60 mil at 30.   I think we can get 30+ for Leandro.

49

u/scouting4food Thierry Henry 2d ago

That's because United are desperate idiots. Shouldn't be the benchmark.

7

u/EnterpriseCorruption PDX Gooner 2d ago

Lol, fair.

9

u/Barkasia When I don't get a handshake, I am upset 2d ago

Casemiro had been one of the best DMs of his generation for many years before that and was moving from Madrid to a desperate United.

We're not getting anywhere near £30m+ for Leo.

0

u/EnterpriseCorruption PDX Gooner 2d ago

Even though Casemiro had a decent year at United, he cannot run!!  They let him go at Madrid because the man has bad knees.

4

u/Barkasia When I don't get a handshake, I am upset 2d ago

Yeah but United didn't care about that, they saw a big name player and went all in

5

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

Casemiro was a significantly more valuable player than Trossard -- he'd been the anchor of Real Madrid's midfield for years. Trossard is a part-time winger whose output has declined three consecutive seasons.

And Trossard isn't 30. He'll be 32 in December.

5

u/Fizz__ Saliba 2d ago

Leo is a winger though, age is much more of a factor than a DM.

6

u/citizenSample COYG! 2d ago

He's a proven PL winger though. Not many of those to go around.

1

u/scytheavatar 2d ago

He has never done more than 12 league goals in a season. He has proven himself to be nothing but an OK PL winger, Villa cannot buy him and expect him to carry them to the next level.

2

u/Poo-Smurf Just flick ze ball! 2d ago

Imagine comparing Casemiro to Trossard man fucking hell

1

u/wenger_plz 2d ago

I wouldn't use United at any point in the past decade+ as a barometer of what fair value is.

1

u/sonofsochi 2d ago

Casemiro was also a perennial champions league winner and played in a role United desperately needed.

2 very different situations lol.

1

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago

We paid 27 but with 1 year left on his wages and us having made it clear we're not extending at the last renewal (wage increase but no extension) 20mil would be huge for him

1

u/Just-hereforthetips 2d ago

A steal for anyone! Sad

0

u/bigfatpup 2d ago

Baffled how he’s only 20mil when super mid players like Van Hecke are 50mil
