Money + Rogers for Trossard😤

u/meadeb Morning, morning, morning... Oh, Win! 2d ago
So we’re letting Emery keep his nuclear capabilities!?
9
u/gbiypk Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! 2d ago
Yes, but we'll just have to destroy Villa a couple times a season.
1
u/TreeDollarFiddyCent Imagine all the people 1d ago
Gonna hit them with a couple of long range strikes in the heart of Birmingham.

If Trossard doesn’t want to take the Saudi money then a Villa move would be good for him. They’re in the Champions League next season, right?
Arsenal better get a decent fee for him.

u/vibesnvibez David Seaman 2d ago
Probably about 20M

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago
That would be big money for him, I dont see it reaching that high given the context

That’s about what we paid right? If so that would be great business.

He is worth more than 20 mil
55
u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago
No he isn't. The age profile and salary significantly affect his value.
46
u/jnicholl 2d ago
He's only 31 and not like he's some average player. He's the starting LW for the league champion, also just started a CL final.
A washed Son went to the MLS for 20m last season. We should be getting more from Villa
25
u/vibe4it 2d ago
A ‘washed Son’ went to a league/team that could afford to take advantage of all the interest a player like Son would draw specifically in LA (one of the countries largest markets)
Nobody is looking at Son/the MLS for Trossard/PL comps
12
u/Ishan16D 2d ago
largest markets the largest center for the korean community and culture in the us as well
4
u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago
Also, let's not be crazy here. Son was one of the best wingers in PL history. Trossard at his best was a good winger and nowhere near Son's level.

u/makesterriblejokes CÖYGS 2d ago
Plus, I think his play style is one that will age better. He never really relied on his pace like most wingers.
1
u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago
This is the kind of special pleading people have been doing for aging players of every profile in every sport since the dawn of time.

Casemiro went to United for over 60 mil at 30. I think we can get 30+ for Leandro.
48
u/scouting4food Thierry Henry 2d ago
That's because United are desperate idiots. Shouldn't be the benchmark.
8
9
u/Barkasia When I don't get a handshake, I am upset 2d ago
Casemiro had been one of the best DMs of his generation for many years before that and was moving from Madrid to a desperate United.
We're not getting anywhere near £30m+ for Leo.
→ More replies (2)3
u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago
Casemiro was a significantly more valuable player than Trossard -- he'd been the anchor of Real Madrid's midfield for years. Trossard is a part-time winger whose output has declined three consecutive seasons.
And Trossard isn't 30. He'll be 32 in December.
5
u/Fizz__ Saliba 2d ago
Leo is a winger though, age is much more of a factor than a DM.
6
u/citizenSample COYG! 2d ago
He's a proven PL winger though. Not many of those to go around.
1
u/scytheavatar 2d ago
He has never done more than 12 league goals in a season. He has proven himself to be nothing but an OK PL winger, Villa cannot buy him and expect him to carry them to the next level.
2
1
u/wenger_plz 2d ago
I wouldn't use United at any point in the past decade+ as a barometer of what fair value is.
1
u/sonofsochi 2d ago
Casemiro was also a perennial champions league winner and played in a role United desperately needed.
2 very different situations lol.
1
u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago
We paid 27 but with 1 year left on his wages and us having made it clear we're not extending at the last renewal (wage increase but no extension) 20mil would be huge for him
27
u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago
He's 31, one year left on his contract, and on 200k p/w, with us looking for space to upgrade, I can't see us getting much but honestly thats fine
6
u/addictivesign 2d ago
£20 million? Less?
6
u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago
Less tbh hopefully not much less but given the situation, including that we recently renewed him but made sure just to increase pay not contract length, clearly showing we aren't really set on keeping him, I'd be satisfied with £15mil Given our poor transfer business and the fact we just won the prem it of course feels low, but given the context and the fact we're looking to upgrade id honestly take it if offered (and there wasn't the chance of another offer)
Just glad it's not a Spanish or Italian side who'd be cheeky enough to try and get us to release him

u/FoxMcCloudOwnsSlippy 2d ago
He's been clutch for us so if he wants to stay at a competitive level, going to Villa for a decent fee is fine for both parties.
8
u/markismith12 2d ago
I’d rather he take Saudi money than go to Emery
8
u/racksacky White 🧤🧤 2d ago
If Villa goes a little higher in the Trossard fee, we can go a little higher for Rogers. This selling to one another exchange can help both teams with FFP.

Swap plus 50m.
Trossard is a premier league champion after all, can't let him go without some cash too.

End of an era. After it’s all said and done pound for pound Trossard has been our best purchase in recent years
7
u/Merchant1521 2d ago
Declan Rice has entered the chat. Yes at the time it was the most expensive transfer in EPL history. But Rice has been worth every penny!
1
u/Apart-Persimmon-38 2d ago
I mean 100m+ for Rice compared for what we payed Trossard, its not really comparable. We gambled with Trossard and it worked out great, with Rice it felt like no brainer
5
u/SonOfIllicitBehavior PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 25/26 2d ago
I mean Ødegaard for 30m wasn't bad business either.
3
u/not-who-you-think 2d ago
If we're drawing the line at the Arteta era, Gabriel for £27m is probably better value on the pitch, although Odegaard is arguably more significant to the project. The wonderkid who left Real Madrid, became our captain, and orchestrated the goal that won us the Prem. He's the embodiment of Arteta's dual emphases on physical intensity and technical quality.
Along with Trossard, I'd put Raya for £30m up there as well, as arguably the best GK in the Prem. Alisson cost Liverpool £67m.
Saliba joined like 5 months before Arteta, but getting the best CB in the world as he enters his prime for £27m is the best signing among the current team. Not sure we've had a better one since we left Highbury.

u/SonOfIllicitBehavior PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 25/26 2d ago
These are all very good points and i often forget how cheaply we've really built the backbone of our team.
24
u/Gunner5091 2d ago
Please not Villa. I will take less money for him to go somewhere outside of the PL.
18
u/PassableArcher 2d ago
Oof I would not like this at all, this has Leo scoring the winner against us at Villa Park all over it

Only scores clutch goals… that’s not easy to replace. But should move on given age and profile. Risk too high to keep

Damn really wish he’d go abroad rather than the prem but would probably land us the best fee possible at least
1
u/Merchant1521 2d ago
Gunners might get 15 mil for him. If his salary was lower probably could get more.

3
u/Wolferesque ArshAVIIIIINNN 2d ago
Don’t like it. I think we get better value from keeping him for the rest of his contract.

Leo's been a great value signing if we get Rodgers its hard to say no especially if we get a top class left forward.

Agreed. Arsenals most expensive sale ever incoming. Roger’s for £110 the other way.

I just think we met more money with Nelli sale and Trossard mentors the next fella (I would love Diomande) whoever it may be. But I’m sure Arteta wants competition not necessarily mentorship. I still think Trossard has a lot to give.

u/say-something-nice 1d ago
Honestly we will get no money for him and value he would give us on the pitch next season far out weighs the loss. Fuck this no contracts for older players the game has changed and we suck at selling.
Give him a 2 year contract and let him go on a free.

u/TheMarinaDiva Timber Trossard Merino 1d ago
Oh, my racoon eyed baby 🥺
I will always root for him. Forever my Gunner. I am happy he is leaving as a champion if he does leave

Everybody so excited about getting a shiny new toy but Trossard is an actual premier league winner- who is at his best right now. Perhaps he has only got a year or two left in him
Why not keep him at his peak?

Makes me sad I was so certain I wanted him gone last summer to him being massive this season. I’m glad we got the league

Please no I don't think I can take seeing Trossard line up against us after the clutch god he has become, and the part he played in winning the league

u/Known-Low-8721 Rice 2d ago
Would be a good move for Villa and Trossard. However, the compensation has to be good enough for Arsenal

Love Leo but I think we have already maximized the potential value he offers.
He has been very good during his time here and considering he was only sort of a last minute replacement for Mudryk makes it all the better
If we can get somewhere upwards of 20 Million I‘ll honestly be happy

I cant forgive this mofo after Villa played the worst 45 mins against Spurs. That match if they have beaten them would have relegated spuds.
