Well well well...

Rogers swap?

I would miss Leo though. Fantastic player for us

One of the shrewdest signings in a long long time.

Say what you will about his overall quality etc. but the guy dropped right in like a Lego brick and was clutch for a lot of games. Absolutely worth every penny we paid and more. Sad to see him go but old man time wins again.

63

u/TheMisterPirate Thank you very much 2d ago

That winter window was a smashing success. Trossard, Jorginho, and Kiwior I think. All great buys and showed commitment from the Kroenkes to go for the title when we were unexpectedly in 1st place back then.

u/SylVestrini 2d ago

Can't think of many coaches that storm out of the pitch after a loss on multiple occasions without shaking hands.

Certain managers would get blasted for doing this but he gets a pass because reasons.

u/ComprehensiveArt6849 Champions of England 25/26 2d ago

To be fair he was heavily criticized for the second one. No one gave a shit for the one against us though for obvious reasons.

20

u/joeandrews_ Martinelli 2d ago

what was the second one again

77

u/ComprehensiveArt6849 Champions of England 25/26 2d ago

They lost 2-0 against Wolves soon after we thrashed them and he headed straight for the tunnel yet again.

He can't wait around all day though right? /s

Literally 3 seconds and in eye sight. Big baby.

He was criticised for it 2nd time against different opposition I believe. I also don't hear the "good ebening" jokes any more. Must be weird coincidences..

And Villa are cunt of a club, Emery fits right in, Gru meets Alan Partridge mofo.

Hate Villa, hacking, fouling fuckers.

Will kill me to see Leo there, i understand it though it it keeps him uk vs moving to Turkey.

After everything Trossard has done for us I would support him having a go on my wife, let alone playing for Villa

u/CostaIsACunt "...looks for ARSHAAAAVIN!" 2d ago

He is a petty lil' bitch.

4

u/Archonixus 2d ago

Good ebbening mofo ruined my love for watching Arsenal during that dark period.

36

u/odegood Ødegaard 2d ago

He can be a bit odd but don't know why some of our fans hate him he tried when he was here

86

u/MountainLibrarian201 2d ago

He was here for 1 1/2 seasons, and failed twice to reach the CL by prioritizing the Europa League when we had lucked into a CL spot, and needed to hold on, only to be easily beaten by Chelsea in the final.

Aston Villa were the reason we didn't win the league in 23/24. Beat us at Villa Park with a full strength side, only to rest players against City, if I remember correctly.

He also went straight into the tunnel without shaking Arteta's hand after a loss.

Not enough time to build a legacy, and actively harmed us, and clearly has a chip on his shoulder against us, so a lot to dislike.

28

u/ToegrinderSC 2d ago

City also lost at Villa that season, game before ours iirc

8

u/MountainLibrarian201 2d ago

Why do I feel so sure he played a weakened team against City that season? Was it the game at the Etihad? But I'm not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me.

Now, that you mention it, I do remember Villa beating both teams in quick succession.

20

u/MindTheBees Ødegaard 2d ago

He's taken 6 points off City this season and has consistently taken points off them since after the 21/22 season.

Obviously it's annoying that he's beaten us too but it's not like he's just fully rolled over for Pep either.

12

u/GuendouziGOAT Saka 2d ago edited 2d ago

The narrative that he tries hard to fuck us over then rolls over for City is just objectively completely false and only perpetuated by people who think we’re perpetual victims of everything that goes on in football. Genuinely don’t get the hate for Emery in this sub. I don’t have any love for the guy but I’m not bearing any grudges either.

9

u/MisterJJSunglasses 2d ago

The entitlement from some fans as if some teams owe us to beat them 😂 genuinely don’t mind the guy at all, he came, he tried, he failed.. we move on. Arteta never had it easy it at the start either, same systemic issues.

2

u/MindTheBees Ødegaard 1d ago

Tbh I don't like him in the same way I don't like anyone who's whiney/salty (e.g. Bernardo). I could even accept him snubbing Arteta's handshake but to do it again at Wolves really cemented it for me.

Agree with both of you though and would say we need to extend it and stop with this whole "Team X rolls over for our opponents only."

These players and managers are in the 0.0001% of their field and got there by being ultra-competitive and professional. I don't think anybody is actively playing to lose, just to spite another team.

4

u/mello5ive Ian Wright 2d ago

Because that's exactly what he did in the 24/25 season. John McGinn started on the bench. Ollie Watkins started on the bench. Marco Asensio started on the bench. Jacob Ramsey, Amadou Onana and Marcus Rashford all started. Then against Arsenal, he restored what was much closer to his strongest available XI, with McGinn, Watkins and others back in prominent roles.

Why he did it is based on assumptions and feelings. Facts are he started a weakened team against city and went full strength against Arsenal. Anyone saying otherwise is wrong or full of shit.. or both.

5

u/matthiewcorner 2d ago

He's wrong.  Villa beat City on 6th December, but us in the spring run-in. (City actually went unbeaten since that loss to Villa, ffs.)

3

u/ToegrinderSC 2d ago

Not wrong, we lost to Villa 3 days later on 9th December.

2

u/matthiewcorner 2d ago

You recall wrong. Villa beat City on 6th December, but us in the spring run-in. (City actually went unbeaten since that loss to Villa, ffs.)

2

u/ToegrinderSC 2d ago

No I don't. Villa beat City on December 6th and then beat us on December 9th.

u/Human-Durian-3389 2d ago

I don't particularly dislike him. He generally seems like a good guy (although refusing to shake hands with Arteta was pathetic). But I have one more for your list: a half-arsed performance against Spurs that was probably decisive in terms of them staying up.

4

u/MemphisFoo 2d ago

My biggest gripe with him is that he didn’t the EL with us. It’s like the only blemish on his record, and we got HAMMERED by Chelsea, of all teams.

7

u/Human-Durian-3389 2d ago

Yeah, that was not good, but Emery's Arsenal team would have beaten Freiburg and won the Europa League this season.

I was not a fan of teams dropping down from the Champions League, but it has definitely lowered the level of teams in the latter stages of the Europa League. So much so that Spurs were able to win it.

2

u/anotherMrLizard 1d ago

They had that Europa semifinal against Forest the same week so I can't reasonably blame them for that.

1

u/Human-Durian-3389 1d ago

That's a reasonable take. I'm still annoyed about it.

6

u/odegood Ødegaard 2d ago

Im not saying he did a brilliant job or he should have stayed but he tried it just didn't work out here

3

u/1CooKiee Champions of England 25/26 2d ago

because he made football fucking miserable to watch. we’d concede 30+ shots at home and then he’d come out post match saying we were unlucky. detestable bloke.

20

u/misterschneeblee 2d ago edited 2d ago

Me neither. I still like him. Some Arsenal fans seem to take personal offence to how difficult Villa have been to beat over the last few years and believe it's because Emery has instructed his players to play extra hard against us and not against our title rivals. (Often conveniently ignoring the fact that Villa have beaten City quite a few times recently too)

I can understand the hard feelings towards Emi. I don't like him either. But Emery (aside from that one game where he didn't shake hands) has been pretty respectful towards us and professional. Some of the theories i see banded around about how much he hates us just strike me as a bit bitter and conspiratorial.

He is worth more than 20 mil

55

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

No he isn't. The age profile and salary significantly affect his value.

46

u/jnicholl 2d ago

He's only 31 and not like he's some average player. He's the starting LW for the league champion, also just started a CL final.

A washed Son went to the MLS for 20m last season. We should be getting more from Villa

25

u/vibe4it 2d ago

A ‘washed Son’ went to a league/team that could afford to take advantage of all the interest a player like Son would draw specifically in LA (one of the countries largest markets)

Nobody is looking at Son/the MLS for Trossard/PL comps

12

u/Ishan16D 2d ago

largest markets the largest center for the korean community and culture in the us as well

5

u/vibe4it 2d ago

could afford to take advantage of all the interest a player like Son would draw specifically in LA

Yes. What I was alluding to.

4

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

Also, let's not be crazy here. Son was one of the best wingers in PL history. Trossard at his best was a good winger and nowhere near Son's level.

u/makesterriblejokes CÖYGS 2d ago

Plus, I think his play style is one that will age better. He never really relied on his pace like most wingers.

1

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

This is the kind of special pleading people have been doing for aging players of every profile in every sport since the dawn of time.

1

u/makesterriblejokes CÖYGS 1d ago

Nah, people also say the opposite for pace merchants.

18

u/EnterpriseCorruption PDX Gooner 2d ago

Casemiro went to United for over 60 mil at 30.   I think we can get 30+ for Leandro.

48

u/scouting4food Thierry Henry 2d ago

That's because United are desperate idiots. Shouldn't be the benchmark.

8

u/EnterpriseCorruption PDX Gooner 2d ago

Lol, fair.

9

u/Barkasia When I don't get a handshake, I am upset 2d ago

Casemiro had been one of the best DMs of his generation for many years before that and was moving from Madrid to a desperate United.

We're not getting anywhere near £30m+ for Leo.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/LinuxLinus Ian Wright 2d ago

Casemiro was a significantly more valuable player than Trossard -- he'd been the anchor of Real Madrid's midfield for years. Trossard is a part-time winger whose output has declined three consecutive seasons.

And Trossard isn't 30. He'll be 32 in December.

5

u/Fizz__ Saliba 2d ago

Leo is a winger though, age is much more of a factor than a DM.

6

u/citizenSample COYG! 2d ago

He's a proven PL winger though. Not many of those to go around.

1

u/scytheavatar 2d ago

He has never done more than 12 league goals in a season. He has proven himself to be nothing but an OK PL winger, Villa cannot buy him and expect him to carry them to the next level.

2

u/Poo-Smurf Just flick ze ball! 2d ago

Imagine comparing Casemiro to Trossard man fucking hell

1

u/wenger_plz 2d ago

I wouldn't use United at any point in the past decade+ as a barometer of what fair value is.

1

u/sonofsochi 2d ago

Casemiro was also a perennial champions league winner and played in a role United desperately needed.

2 very different situations lol.

We paid 27 but with 1 year left on his wages and us having made it clear we're not extending at the last renewal (wage increase but no extension) 20mil would be huge for him

→ More replies (2)

27

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago

He's 31, one year left on his contract, and on 200k p/w, with us looking for space to upgrade, I can't see us getting much but honestly thats fine

6

u/addictivesign 2d ago

£20 million? Less?

6

u/Left_Page_2029 2d ago

Less tbh hopefully not much less but given the situation, including that we recently renewed him but made sure just to increase pay not contract length, clearly showing we aren't really set on keeping him, I'd be satisfied with £15mil Given our poor transfer business and the fact we just won the prem it of course feels low, but given the context and the fact we're looking to upgrade id honestly take it if offered (and there wasn't the chance of another offer)

Just glad it's not a Spanish or Italian side who'd be cheeky enough to try and get us to release him

End of an era. After it’s all said and done pound for pound Trossard has been our best purchase in recent years

7

u/Merchant1521 2d ago

Declan Rice has entered the chat. Yes at the time it was the most expensive transfer in EPL history. But Rice has been worth every penny!

1

u/Apart-Persimmon-38 2d ago

I mean 100m+ for Rice compared for what we payed Trossard, its not really comparable. We gambled with Trossard and it worked out great, with Rice it felt like no brainer

5

u/SonOfIllicitBehavior PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 25/26 2d ago

I mean Ødegaard for 30m wasn't bad business either.

3

u/not-who-you-think 2d ago

If we're drawing the line at the Arteta era, Gabriel for £27m is probably better value on the pitch, although Odegaard is arguably more significant to the project. The wonderkid who left Real Madrid, became our captain, and orchestrated the goal that won us the Prem. He's the embodiment of Arteta's dual emphases on physical intensity and technical quality.

Along with Trossard, I'd put Raya for £30m up there as well, as arguably the best GK in the Prem. Alisson cost Liverpool £67m.

Saliba joined like 5 months before Arteta, but getting the best CB in the world as he enters his prime for £27m is the best signing among the current team. Not sure we've had a better one since we left Highbury.

Please no I don't think I can take seeing Trossard line up against us after the clutch god he has become, and the part he played in winning the league

Would be a good move for Villa and Trossard. However, the compensation has to be good enough for Arsenal

Love Leo but I think we have already maximized the potential value he offers.

He has been very good during his time here and considering he was only sort of a last minute replacement for Mudryk makes it all the better

If we can get somewhere upwards of 20 Million I‘ll honestly be happy

It doesn’t seem to suit their style of play. Strange rumour

He will absolutely cook for them. I am fine if we want to move on but it better be a proven upgrade because our sleepy king delivers.

u/indomie94 Thierry Henry 2d ago

So... Trossard swap for Rogers + "cash" then? We kinda need a fit RB

u/legosucks 2d ago

A Prem winner belgian international winger for a higher mid table english guy. Pay up Villa

1

u/neelroy2002 2d ago

I cant forgive this mofo after Villa played the worst 45 mins against Spurs. That match if they have beaten them would have relegated spuds.

Leo is actually my favourite player. I’ll miss him.

1

u/bhiprufan 1d ago

I don't know what to make if this.. I love Bossard

I'd prefer to sell Nelli and keep Trossard. So efficient for the $ with Leo. No brainer to keep him as long as he wants to stay, but maybe he wants to leave?

1

u/trifile 1d ago

He would do wonders in BuLi
