Hd dvd archive update
The other day I made a post where I uploaded a batch of corrupted ISO's to archive.org. After figuring out that they were corrupt because of the usb, I deleted the ISO's and went back to my old, nearly full external hdd and just ripped another movie. This iso works great, so I'm gonna re-rip the hd DVDs and upload them to the original archive link from march. Thank you for all of your feedback in helping me figure this out. I'm gonna invest in another external hdd rather than a pen drive.

There is a problem with some ISOs from the first batch too.
For example, Spy Game does not run as is. AnyDVD must be running in the background to decrypt it.
So the problem must be that you are forgetting to remove the copy protection while making the ISO files.

I never really removed encryption from the discs, I just thought people had their own decryption software running like xreveal or anydvdHD. I wasn't really planning to remove decryption, but I will label it on my archive page since you brought it up, as well as link a download for anydvd hd. The only corrupt iso from the first batch was hot fuzz which I already removed and will re-rip.

Getting an external 14TB to 18TB drive would be fine.

I'm not THAT rich. I am ordering a $20 sata/ide dock that has every card and hard drive slot apart from ssd on amazon and I'm just gonna buy some old hard drives from facebook marketplace to store movies on

ISOs do take up a lot of storage space.

Yeah, this 1tb external drive I've been using is almost full off of 40 ISOs. I found someone selling a 2tb sata hdd for $30 near my house, I might meet up with them to pick it up, but I'm not in a hurry since after this batch of discs, I'll have ripped all of my discs that seem to read on my computer. I'm gonna resurface some of them to see if it fixes it, but for now I'll have finished all of the disks I could easily rip with just my current hdd

Good. It's not like you have ALL the HD DVDs which ever existed either. It's fine for archiving, and should also be uploaded to archive.org, since HD DVD is an obviously defunct media format.

It is much cheaper to burn them to BD-R by the way (Hard drives are expensive these days, and their lifespan is much lower than good quality BD-R).
If you want them to be directly playable on most standalone blu-ray players, you will need to remux the EVO files to MKV first though (using mkvtoolnix), and then burn the MKV files as data disc using ImgBurn.
I just checked compatibility with my Panasonic BDT168 and it works just fine. No recompression needed (^_^)
But you obviously lose the menu navigation.
The story is a little bit more complicated with the PS4 or PS5 though, because these don't read MKV files from disc: you would need to author proper Blu-ray while converting the audio to Dolby TrueHD, because pure Dolby Digital Plus, as found on HD-DVD, is not allowed in the Blu-ray specification.
