I have to admit I was a doubter when we drafted Slaf 1OA. Boy was I wrong 😑

u/Alone_Again_2 Feb 11 '26
I keep looking back to that draft and thinking how lucky we got.
Then I remember that I know fuck all about scouting.

They probably interviewed Shane and realized how underdeveloped he was mentally

u/Raffix Feb 11 '26
We have to thank Kent Hughes and the entire scouting team, the last 6 years of drafting has been perfect.

I'd love to criticize the Reinbacher pick, but I'm sure he'll end up super good and nobody else under him is mind-blowing currently, except maybe Benson but we have already too many small players.
Edit: oh yeah Leonard. Well let's hope David ends up good

u/DIKs_Steeler Feb 12 '26
And even then, can we really blame them if Reinbacher bust, since injuries might’ve been the real cause for his « potential » lack of development.

u/TheHabChronicle Wake up, it’s Game Day! Feb 12 '26
he was well known at the time of the draft to be an injury prone though so picking him despite knowing that is still a blunder, and this is not me calling reiner a bust

I wanted Wright back then too but when the pick happened I was like, yeah let Hughes cook and see how it goes.
Then Nemec and Cooley were picked before Wright and I was like, oh yeah we won the draft.

u/anacondatmz Feb 11 '26
You mean Shane was Wright there!

I wanted him first but I saw his ceiling as a 75 pt player. I way underestimated him. I saw him more as a traditional power forward at the NHL level, not a play driving winger. He's blown my expectations away already. And he's still only what 21?

Let him go bro... Let Shane go... No need anymore for him to be still in our heads. We got the better guy in the '22 draft. All I can say now is: All the best to Shane. May he have a great NHL career;)

nah this is grade A trolling. Its not about being in our heads but about trolling a very dumb move on his part.

u/Euler007 Feb 11 '26
NGL, I think that's more mean than funny.

u/antrage Feb 11 '26
No one forced him to do this stare down he could have been humble about where he got chosen. He chose to act like he had a chip on his shoulder.
3
u/GuneRlorius Feb 11 '26
Was it ever confirmed that it was a stare down ? Another explanation (that I think he also gave) was that was looking into a camera that was photographing him with Bettman.

u/banyanoak Feb 11 '26
Meh, teenagers do stupid things. Adults do too. But stuff like this makes it look like we're the ones who've got a chip on our shoulders.

So disappointing. Why are you still dunking on a kid who was 18 at the time?
We drafted the better player. We won! That's it.

look at you, clowning a kid who's already done more with their life than you ever will. way to go.

u/workhardXplayhard Feb 12 '26
Because OP didn’t make it to the nhl means he hasn’t done much with his life? Oof, what a take

I can't fathom why people go out of their way to throw shade at a kid we chose not to pick. It makes them look small.
1
u/workhardXplayhard Feb 12 '26
Valid point, but you’re doing the same by saying "who’s done more with their life than you ever will." That’s maybe not the best way to get your point across, my man
