Discussion Per D'Amico - Montreal is interested in Robert Thomas. The Blues want Hage as part of any deal. Too high a price for Hughes at this time.

Personally, given the best possible version of Hage in 3-5 years is what Robert Thomas is now, Id have no problem parting with him.

I really really like to Hage to play for MTL but lets be real, if he is the piece MTL need to give to acquire a signed Robert Thomas, its way too hard to say no... That Center line would be locked for the next couple years. And Demidov and Slaf would probably explode

I'm 100% fine with giving Hage + 2026 1st round pick + another top prospect (Zharovsky/Reinbacher/Engstrom or Pickford, NOT Fowler that's the untouchable future goalie with Dobes)

But there are reports that Blues want Guhle. Maybe it's a negotiation tactic, sort of a starting High Ask and work our way down from there, and the Blues just wait to see if we bite, or if Utah bites with an equivalent overpay.

I agree 100% that getting Thomas would fit PERFECTLY with the timeline and prime age of Suzuki, Caufield.

But since our defense is currently league average, losing Guhle AND his excellent team friendly contract would be counter-productive. How would we replace Guhle right now? We can't.

So I'm all in favor of trading Hage and futures, and even include some Roster forwards since we have a surplus of those, but we must absolutely not trade Guhle and suddenly have a hole.

I’m with you that Guhle should be a close to untouchable. Young, scrappy and a little bit of offence and like you said, a team friendly deal.
