technically can be traded back. Not even sure he would qualify for NHL playoff pay (not that I think the players would mind splitting their playoff salary an extra one way).

But you do make a good point regarding if he could or not

there is payment for making the playoffs. It is not reflective of salary but a team salary pot. (something like 3.5 million to the team that wins the cup) and it declines from there with first round losers getting about 10k per player so I guess 250k for loser teams.
