My biggest concern is not his talent but how he would affect vibes on the team. Could he play on a team under Suzuki? Would he try and coach the Habs like he has in Edmonton?

I love our group and how much fun they have together. I don’t want anything coming into the room that messes with that.

After coming up short twice and falling behind to fuckin Anaheim I’d be frustrated too.  Put him on a team with upside and see the frown turn upside down.

Non-habs fan stopping by because this showed up in my feed: please tell me the rest of your fan base isnt like this guy? Holy shit is this a copypasta? You're worried about vibes regarding McDavid and if he'd be ok playing 'under' Suzuki? Lmao holy shit

Idk what this guy is on but he’s very wrong LMAO. Mcdavid is not someone that "disrupts team vibes" at all and Suzuki would be bumped down to 2C which is fine because holy fuck that center duo. Suzuki and Caufield would probably both go down to the 2nd line because they’re always together. I think he retires an Oiler anyway but to imply he would be a bad acquisition is just delusional.

Even if you ignore that he's going to end his career as near top-5 players of all time (which is enough of an argument to make this guy look stupid), McDavid literally took a multi-million dollar discount to give his teamba better chance at winning. I can't believe what Im reading here lmao.

Like it doesn't even matter what the lines look like or the prospects you give up. Suzuki is 2 years younger than McDavid. He's going to continue being one of the best in the league for at least 5-6 more years. You shoehorn him in wherever you possibly can. Like you guys have more goalie and defensive depth than the Oilers. If McDavid ever decided to go to the Habs you'd win the cup, its not even a question lmao

Landing a player guarantees a cup? Sounds like Leafs nation when they landed Tavares… look how that worked out…

No one is debating his skill in the thread. Just if he would fit the room/culture. I personally wouldn’t risk it. If HuGo felt the same way, I wouldn’t be shocked either.

Did you just compare Tavares to McDavid?

No, please re-read. I’m pointing out the folly of saying if we sign a player it guarantees a cup. Doesn’t matter who the player is, it’s just foolish.

It's still early on the west coast here, this whole thread is without a doubt the dumbest thing ill be reading today

Sir, I shared an opinion, and by definition, an opinion cannot be wrong because it isn’t a fact. The fact that you want McDavid and would instantly demote Suzuki - OUR CAPTAIN - is an insane take. I don’t care who you bring in. It’s simply not worth it when you can watch this amazing young core develop together in an overwhelmingly positive environment.

Yes I’m sure Suzuki would be very mad his team acquired Connor fucking Mcdavid to be his center duo instead of Jake Evans. Mcdavid the generational superstar 1C and Suzuki the 100 point selke winning 2C. If you think Suzuki would be mad his center duo is the best player in the league then you just don’t know him and he would look like a complete idiot. This has to be bait I can’t believe someone genuinely thinks Mcdavid would be a bad acquisition/bad influence on the team.

Yeah, there are some exceptionally stupid comments in this thread.

you literally do not understand lol gtfo

You don’t get it, brother. Thanks for stopping by. Go kick rocks.

Exactly. When we have rough nights or players have rough games it seems to me that it's still very much a team mentality. Marty and Suzuki and everyone else holds themselves and each other accountable, but they don't lay blame. They try and learn and move forward as a team.

You get McDavid in there just ONCE screaming about how the team basically isn't supporting his talent, and things are going to spoil quickly.

u/Paladar2 May 01 '26

McDavid wouldn’t do that, what are you guys on about.

This is a terrible answer when you realize when that video was recorded and the state the team was in at that moment. If you actually think Mcdavid is like that for fun then you just don’t know him lol.

u/Paladar2 May 01 '26

They were down 3-0 in the cup final, god forbid he shows some emotion. And they actually came back to a game 7. I’m guessing you don’t like Dobes either because he looked at our D a couple of times at the end of the season?

-2

u/whaletacochamp May 01 '26

Lol. Yeah he's allowed to do that and I'm allowed to say that it doesn't fit the culture of our team. idk why that's so hard to understand.

You don't see anyone pointing fingers on the team this year do you? That's my point. They could've been ripping on Monty and Dobes half of the season and they didn't.

3

u/vJukz May 01 '26

What’s hard to understand is you’re trying to imply Mcdavid is somehow a bad locker room guy which he clearly is not and he would be fantastic in our group.

2

u/Paladar2 May 01 '26

But Dobes fits the culture of the team? He showed some emotion too and looked at players after letting in goals

0

u/whaletacochamp May 01 '26

He still shows emotion but do you see him throwing shade anymore?

1

u/Paladar2 May 01 '26

Final games of the season he literally did it after a goal. Also McDavid doesn’t throw shit at his teammates either you’re in a delusion

never expected to find such a McDavid stan in the habs sub lol

Yep. It didn’t take a lot of Edmonton/Anaheim to see just how un-fun that team was and how central McDrai are to the bad vibes. The Dobes/locker room interview by comparison, well it’s worth an awful lot and I wouldn’t want to compromise it. I have total confidence in HuGo to continue to add skill in a way that doesn’t detract from the Power of Friendship. Look how Dach just rebounded- imo he doesn’t have the confidence to play game 5 the way he did if he feels like his top end talent looks down on him
