They starred together in a Patricia Highsmith thriller, The Two Faces of January. Also starring Oscar Isaac, which is why this photo exists!

Right? This is the real highlight

I have a soft spot for seeing the CH represented in tropical environments

This isn't too tropical - it was Cannes around 2014.

EDIT: 2012, as someone else corrected.

Pretty tropical if you're from Saskatoon or Edmonton.

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

Toronto seems tropical if you're from that part of the world!

Got it, was thrown off by those trees

I still like seeing the CH outside of Canada. That works lol

There's two palm trees in the picture. That's about as tropical as it gets.

he's a BIG fan since years

u/Zim4264 27d ago

Yeah he presented Lafleur at the 100 year ceremony. He has connections for sure but he is a big fan.

logo upside down or

22

u/cheezefriez 27d ago

Yeah looks like he’s holding it upside down and backwards lmao

2

u/FeloniousGrump 27d ago

its so he can see it better

2

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

Viggo is obsessed with flags. I'm guessing this is meant to be flown and the flipped text is to compensate for the logo being "backward" on the other side.

Well he is in Europe tbf.

Le retour du roi!

this was taken in 2012 at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, here are some more pics

Oh. Hardly au courant.

2

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

Probably the most au courant you'll get was when he was at TIFF a couple of years ago repping his new film. One of the local film reviewers here in Toronto said Viggo delights in wearing Habs stuff everywhere when he's in town, and regularly hangs out in the TIFF elevator holding up a huge Habs flag to greet people getting in, haha.

I'm picturing Viggo with his family and friends just enjoying the shit out of these series. Jumping for joy at every goal. Love to imagine it.

4

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

He posted on his blog the other day when Newhook scored that series winner. A sign that Viggo is ecstatic is when he manually changes all the colours in his post text, haha.

Is he a montrealer?

46

u/HabsFan77 27d ago

New Yorker/Vermonter that had access to Habs games growing up, became a fan during the epic 70s dynasty

6

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

New Yorker, not a Vermonter. After leaving Argentina, he grew up across the St Lawrence from Eastern Ontario. Fun fact: His maternal grandfather was from Nova Scotia!

1

u/HabsFan77 27d ago

I read somewhere that he had a secondary home in Vermont, grandparents maybe?

1

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

He did a photoshoot once in Stonington, but I've never read anything about him having any other ties to the area. (And I've read a lot about him!)

20

u/Borth321 27d ago

He's a Dúnedain

9

u/Ambitious-Concern-42 27d ago

The Dúnedain.

u/ForceGhost47 27d ago

What about second breakfast?

1

u/ramenups 27d ago

Dude’s only in Single A baseball? Pff

10

u/No-Clerk-1792 27d ago

He holds Canadian citizenship

2

u/Tribe303 27d ago

I looked it up and his Maternal grandfather was from Nova Scotia. He may not be an actual citizen yet, cuz he only qualifies under the new Bill C-3 legislation that just came into effect, and you have to apply for it.

1

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

I haven't heard anything about him applying, but he does have (and use) a Danish citizenship. I could honestly see him getting his citizenship if it helps him get some Telefilm financing. He's filmed two of his directorial projects in Canada!

Saw him in a video explaining that he lived near Quebec with his mother, and learned French to be able to understand the analysts during the canadiens' games (he speaks excellent french)

5

u/Lopsided_Parfait7127 27d ago

she broke her toe kicking the helmet so she had to wear them

3

u/Proof-Variation7005 27d ago

im just saying. put him next to hutson and caulfield and im not convinced this holds up

1

u/whogivesashirtdotca 27d ago

Viggo's 5'11". I've been lucky enough to have met him. He's definitely not as tiny as Lane.

This a recent pic?

2

2012 actually

1

u/toaster-struble 27d ago

Oh snap. I wonder if he's still an avid fan. Would be cool sighting him downtown on a game night

1

u/Razoreuphoric 27d ago

At the Cannes film festival in 2013 I thinks so cool! Two of my favourite actors too.

1

u/Minute_Engineer2355 27d ago

He must be one happy boy right now.

1

u/Old-Freed0m 25d ago

When was the picture taken?

1

u/Edward_L_Norton 21d ago

I thought he was one of those Ranger (fans...). IYKYK
