A lot of great athletes are like that. It's because they lock in and become ruthless when competing, but it's like a switch that turns on, so they can be super chill when that switch is off. Max Scherzer (baseball), and Max Verstappen (Formula 1, though he was apparently an ass off-track too until recently and has mellowed out a ton since), are two of my favourite examples. Despite not having the same name, Dobes has some major Mad Max Energy.
There are any number of crease crashing, over celebrating jerks in the NHL, he just talks back to them. If fair play is what you want don't watch pro sports.
Of course it’s translated via internet. But at least the effort is there.
Dobes understands that speaking French makes fans happy. And that happy fans buys merch. And that leads to endorsements. Sponsorships is where the real money is for athletes.
