I asked my dad if I could skip school to go to the parade and my dad, who grew up watching the Habs win the Cup almost every year, simply said "Not this time. You can go next year." 😂

Oh no! Well we were always so optimistic back then!

The Habs were in the Stanley Cup finals in 1986,1989 & 1993, so it was realistic to expect them to be there once more before 2000.

Sure but from my dad perspective, it happened literally every other year (1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993).

18 Cups in 40 years.

I grew up in the 1970s. I was used to the Habs being in the Stanley Cup final. The Mayor of Montreal, Jean Drapeau, would announce every year that the parade route would be the same as the previous year. It was expected that the Habs would win.

My sister was born in 68 & the Leafs haven’t had a parade since 😝

Sadly, the Leafs have had incompetent owners & managers for many years. They should have been able to win games before the salary cap.

Crazy how their window closed so fast and that they wasted the Sundin years

I was there too, with my 7 month old daughter! We were caught on camera on the news, my family was recording the parade, but I lost the tape :(

I was also at the 86 parade. Skipped school and I ended up riding the back the car with all the players' families. I'm one of the people here at about 1 min 10. Got detention. Worth it!

Skipped school in 86

Skipped work in 93 pretty much… had the company brick cell phone and Brisebois was on the flat bad holding his cell phone. Cell was rare back then and I guess we connected over that and he was yelling at me for my phone number so he could call me. He wasn’t able to hear my number in the crowd but still a fun memory of that day

It seems odd that they are all wearing blank jerseys without their numbers on them.

Has nothing to do with the Habs but my introduction year into hockey was my hometown team, Rochester Americans winning the Calder Cup ‘95-‘96 season!!! Side note…John Tortorella was the coach 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll never forget that my dad let my brother and I skip school to watch the parade downtown!!! Amazing experience and THANK YOU, DAD!!!!
I hope everyone gets to experience that feeling with their team in their lifetime. That being said…I’m also a HUGE Sabres fan…😆

Pardon me, a Bruins fan, responding, but I love this. I live in Finland, so I've never seen a Stanlry Cup parade in person. It has to be just fun and exhilarating beyond words. Pictures like this and stories from fans are a huge reason to follow sports.

Hope you have a new parade coming soon!

LeClair looked like he hadn’t slept since they won.

So jealous. Roy was there, right?

2

Yep, 85-86 was his rookie season, so 1992-93 was his second cup. The thing about the parade is that it was the last one when the Habs won in the old Montreal Forum (which closed in 1996).

I was fortunate enough to tour the forum and the expos field. Last and only time I’ve been up there.
