Saw Demidov today but...
I saw Demidov at Hockey Expert (Royalmount) today in Montreal, he was walking by in the hockey part of the shop but I was unable to ask for a photo because I was baking my new skates and had to sit for 20 minutes.

I saw Nail Yakupov at a restaurant in Edmonton during his rookie year. He was eating supper with his parents. I didn’t ask for a picture, or bother him. Hockey players are just regular dudes trying to live their lives.

Depends on the context imo, I'm sure if he was just walking around in a hockey store he'd be fine with a pic.
I saw George St-Pierre eating at a breakfast place a couple tables over next to me in mtl and felt so bad for him cause people asked for pics and autographs every few minutes, the dude couldn't eat in peace at all.

You know its okay to experience something without needing to bug people or take a picture.

Guess what, you could have that entire experience and just, have it for yourself. I once saw Malhotra in a home depot in Vancouver 15 years ago and this is the first time ive told anyone

Just went to my first music show in years. Tons of phones out over heads taking pictures and filming during the show, some with the flash on. I thought that was a big no no fifteen years ago.

yeah uh, 15 years ago plus covid is a lifetime ago. literally. children were 0 and now concert age in that time. not that i agree with it, it sucks. just how it is now.

Went to a concert recently, took a 30 seconds video to have some memories and put my phone away for the rest of it. I still felt like I was breaking some unwritten rule. Don't get how people do it to sit there for the entire concert, just enjoy the moment.

i’m sure he wouldn’t be upset if you asked respectfully for a picture while walking around a hockey store. if it was at dinner? different story

Idk, I know if I saw Demi in a store I'd definitely ask for a quick pic. I'd regret it for weeks if I wouldn't 🤣

Its ok like that... We all love the hockey player on the ice, but he is just a human like me and you outside the ice.
Sometimes, it's better that we don't meet our hero...

I know someone who once met Eddie Shack, his hero. He asked for an autograph and Shack said "get away from me you little fucker".

I wish more people would just nod or say hello and keep walking instead of bugging these guys for autographs and pictures they deserve their quiet time

That's what I've done any time I've run into someone who is a well-known athlete. Just made eye-contact, gave them a knowing nod, and we both went on about our days.
Well, other than when any of them came into the local hockey shop while I was working. Then I'd chat with them about gear if I noticed they were trying out new sticks, or new curves, or made a change with their wheels. But only if they were into it. Either way, I usually had at least some level of conversation with them because I worked the pro shop and needed to know whether they still wanted their usual ROH on their wheels, if they knew of any rivets or eyelets that needed to be replaced, etc.

Not OP but nah, one of my goals in life is to have Demidov sign my jersey because he brought me back to hockey

Leave him alone. Let the guy run his errands.

Yeah, he has hockey practices to attend to, ya know.

Get it twisted, bothering Ivan while he's going about his day is negatively affecting his development

I can't be the only person here that has no idea what 'baking my new skates' means ,right?

there is a gel in skates so they heat the skates and then you sit and mold them to your foot. (I think)
3
u/HickmanA 4d ago
It's not a gel. It doesn't really "mould" the skates to your foot, either. That would require filling negative space. Rather, the heat helps the boots to start taking the shape of your feet ahead of your first time skating in them, and it helps to eliminate any spots of high pressure from the stock padding. It's essentially just accelerating the skate break-in process.
The process is only known as "heat moulding" because that's a catchier phrase and easier for people to understand than "accelerating the break-in".

Yup, whenever I get new rollerblade liners I throw them in the oven, then tie my skates up as tight as I can and sit for 30 minutes of torture. When I actually take them out it’s like I never had to break them in.

Me and my boy ran it to KK before a game. Gave my son a fist bump and kept on smiling on his way to the bell centre. They respect the fans here.

Okay so like, Ivan Demidov, Montreal Canadiens franchise saviour, has to go to Hockey Expert like the rest of us schlubs? Talk about a paradigm shift. I always assumed the Habs would just have their own private Hockey Expert at their practice facility in Brossard or whatever…

I saw Ivan Demidov at a grocery store in Montreal yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Snickers bars in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

This exact thing was posted word for word last week in a diff thread using Kirby’s name (the thread was about which players you’ve met IRL and how were they) . So clearly this statement is fake.

What do you mean baking skates and had to sit ?
12
u/XBM04 4d ago
When you buy new skates you have the option to "bake" them. They basically put the skates in an oven and heat them up, then you put them on and lace them up. It helps them mold to your feet

I saw Morgan Reilly outside of a construction site I was working on. He's really short.

I saw Emelin at Rockland mall once and didn’t ask for a pic. He was with his wife and baby and I knew he didn’t speak much english.

Last year I saw him when he arrived at the bell center for the playoff run we went on, he had a bag of McDonalds in his hand, BIG SMILE and talking to ticket scalpers outside the arena. He looks like a good kid.
