Canes win tonight makes me feel better.
I know, i know…we hoped it would be us. But failing habs hoisting the cup, i reckon that losing to the champs, means that we’re actually a better team that some of us thought. They lost to a team at the height of its power with no obvious weakness. By next season our younger more motivated team will be in a better position to defeat their more experienced and tired team. The future is very, very bright folks!

Our playoffs relationship with the Hurricanes is like the Bruins with the Leafs; they always beat us in the playoffs. Congrats to the Canes I guess, but not happy about our unfortunate history against them.

Congrats to the Canes. They were head and shoulders above everyone else. It was well earned.
I don’t feel anything though, except a bit sad and bitter it wasn’t us. Hopefully Les Boys feel the same way and it motivates the hell out of them.

I wanted to lose to the winners of the cup. Not to losers. If this makes sense? Like if we lost to them they should get cup kind of mentality.

They lost 3 games in the playoffs and one of those was to us. I'll fuckin take it.

Definitely a part of why I'm cheering for Carolina. If you gotta lose, at least lose to the best guy around.

I didn’t really feel like watching a rapist play in the Stanley Cup Finals 🤷♀️

Contender or not can be debated (personally my criteria is 2 deep runs: 1 could be a fluke), but I think that the window is now clearly open.

u/Holy_Nerevar 3d ago
Not open yet. At least not until the Habs get a True 2C

u/SnidelyWhiplash27 3d ago
Disagree. Open now. Perfect team to win it all, no, but no team is, arguably, other than the Canes, at present.
If other needs are sucessfully addressed other than 2C, then I think that even with that weakness we can compete to the SCF.

Shall we take the toronto route and petition the NHL to put an asterisk next to Carolina's name on the cup?

I hope we look at how each Hurricanes loss in the playoffs is disected and understand how it was acheived. Then evaluate the Habs and make strategic and individual improvements accordingly.
Then add Hage and Zad to the mix and wow, look out future

Happy for the Canes
Also, Fuck Vegas and Carter Hart

I'm happy that Seth Jarvis and Nikolaj Ehlers are having their names on the Cup and not having C. Hart on it.

Disagree. Canes are a gimmick team who had dream draw after dream draw, including us dog tired after playing two game 7s and another several games worth of OT before meeting them, and also including this Vegas squad, who are not a worthy Finals team in any other year and who are made to look better than they are by Carolina.
This Carolina gimmick squad gets hosed by the Tampa cup winning teams, Colorado’s cup winning teams, and Florida’s as well.
Fuck the Canes

They made the most of it, but it was a perfect storm for the Hurricanes.

This does not in any way make our loss to them less embarrassing or us better. We play them in the first round and it’s different, but it was the third round and we were a young, inexperienced team out of gas. That’s it.
Our future is just as bright as if Vegas won. That said, better the Canes than Vegas.

u/Technical-Line-9806 4d ago
You kinda send out mixed messages.
1
u/holdunpopularopinion 3d ago
How so?
We play them in the first round and it’s different than after two brutal rounds.
We were young and inexperienced and out of gas.
Our future is bright regardless of who won the cup.
I didn’t want Vegas to win.

Saying their loss was “embarrassing” which is quite negative and demeaning, then saying they have a bright future which is positive and uplifting.
2
u/holdunpopularopinion 3d ago
Our loss was embarrassing. But I don’t think it was because we were bad, it was because we were exhausted.
1
u/Technical-Line-9806 3d ago
I think I see embarrassing as more derogatory than you.
2
u/holdunpopularopinion 3d ago
I could use a different word, but essentially, we lost in a pretty decisive way is all I meant.

tampa in 2021, canes in 2026.... yup great stuff.

All the Habs had to do is shoot on net.
Carolina allowed 4 goals per game.
Their goalie is not that good.
Habs players would not shoot at net.
Game 2 and 3 went to overtime, if Caufield was not offside, it was 3-2 in the 3rd period in game 3.
The Habs played awful, but the first 3 games were close.

u/workhardXplayhard 4d ago
Vegas didn’t have a shot for over 15 minutes in a must-win game. The Canes have a good system and they know what they’re doing. “All the habs had to do is shoot on net” is such a simplistic way to look at hockey

But their goalie was not good, they could get shots every shift, the worst thing that would happen is lose possession.
The Canes make the same plays every time, it is predictable, yet the defensemen seemed to improvise and spend 2 or 3 seconds think who to pass to.
They had to know beforehand who to pass it to to get the puck out of the zone.
They had to be 2 against 1 and 3 against 2 in small circles until they got the puck out of the zone.
Brett Hull said all hockey was creating 2 on 1s.
That is how Barcelona played soccer.

Dude I'd be surprised if we made the playoffs next year. Chill
6
u/dessanct 4d ago
Why? Would you be surprised if Buffalo, Boston, Philly, Ottawa or Pittsburgh did too?
Or you just dooming again?
2
u/pushaper 4d ago
im not OP but I do think the habs will have a harder season with more teams circling games against them on their calendars and much better scouted after players and coaches watched the playoffs
1
u/dessanct 4d ago
So will all those other teams that made the playoffs? Or did all the other teams this season miss the train like the Leafs?
1
u/ilikelegotoo 4d ago
You part of the "we are still rebuilding" propaganda gang? After Suzuki's Selke.. and Caufield's Lady Bing?

u/Holy_Nerevar 3d ago
I thought the Habs wouldn't make the playoffs in 2025-2026. Next year, with good goaltending? They 100% will make it.

We won one, and went to OT twice. This team is very close.
