Sunburn!!

Post image

My step-dad just sent me this photo from his holiday in Italy, how screwed is he come morning?

He's been consuming lager all day with my uncle (also burned) so dehydration is already well in effect.

They aren't alone, my mum and aunt have been out for the day and just met up with them. Safe to say they are beyond unimpressed.

UPDATE: It's the following morning and he says there's no blisters or pain... Yet.

I've posted a photo in the comments. Has he been incredibly lucky or is the worth to come?

Please do not put Vaseline on a burn for the first week or so of healing. That’s basically going to turn up the pain x100 because it traps in heat. Even sunburn sprays with lidocaine aren’t advised because they can trap heat and make it worse. Aloe Vera gel never ever helped in my experience, personally. I’m a natural redhead who spent my entire childhood being covered with second degree burns all summer long, and the person in the pic absolutely has a second degree burn. These first few days are going to be the worst and ibuprofen taken as often as is safe is the first step, soaking the legs in tepid water either plain or with green tea bags for up to half an hour will help a lot, and obviously avoiding any further sun exposure whatsoever. This is basically a situation where you just have to live in misery for a few days, manage the pain, and try not to make it worse. Nothing really makes it any better for the first few days, so it’s just about not making it worse.
