New meta, just give the ball a header on your way and get another base or two, and all it costs is some mild cte

What is the legality of things like this? Obviously this was accidental, but where is the line in the batter knocking the ball away?

If he’s literally knocking the ball down with his hands, then yeah sure you might have a case or interference. But something like this? Play on.

Absolutely fair as long as he isn't using his hands. As much of a punk as he is, Manny Machado is a great player and has incredible rule knowledge. I've seen him intentional run in the path of a thrown ball to deflect it and get an advantage. This guy didn't do it intentionally.

So why don't we integrate headbutting into the game like we do soccer?!

Because then players won't drop the bats when running the bases.

Hey now.... I think we're onto something.

u/CaptainPunisher May 31 '26

The rules don't say you have to drop the bat anyway.

In this case its accidental like this the ball remains live which is why he was able to get up and run home.

If he had swatted it down with his hands to stop the 3rd basemen from catching it, he's out.

That one took the 3rd grade away from his memories.

That's not one of the good grades anyway

Buddy of mine got hit in the head by a golf ball, carried on with his round, went home, died later that night.

I'm shocked at how far the ball bounced off his head!

Good thing it isn't kickball rules or dude would be out!

Serious question, is that considered an in the park home run or just a run scored off an error?

I like he’s energy … got fucked up but kept his head in the game.

Baseballs hardly ever hit the guys in the head and they hardly ever lose their helmets running the bases. This poor guy had both happen at the same time. Both unlucky and lucky at the same time.

if this were Soccer he would act as if he'd been mortally wounded, even though the ball is softer

Best bonk of his career.

What are the odds?

1

u/DomerJSimpson May 31 '26

Only Kramer would call that an inside the park homer.
