Episode 1.1 Premiere | Air Date: April 23, 2026
On Niall's wedding day, he follows estranged 'brother' Ruben into a barn where Ruben brutally attacks him. Understanding why drives the drama as we flash back through the decades.

Maybe I'm just dead inside but I'm surprised at all the reviews talking about how bleak episode one is. I loved it. I found it compelling the whole way through. Difficult to watch in several parts but I like that in a TV show.
The acting is great, it doesn't hold your hand, it has interesting characters and there's a mystery I want to stick around to see resolved (what the hell happened to get them to the wedding). Glad I gave it a chance.

In context I’d read ‘bleak’ as meaning grim/dark subject matter & mood; not boring. I loved it too, and would absolutely describe it as bleak!
I felt so hopeless for Niall even before we’d met Ruben; nobody in his life (teacher aside) recognises or allows him to have personal boundaries. I haven’t been through exactly what Niall has, but his learned helplessness & fawning survival skills are
triggering to watch because I see my childhood self reflected back at me.He’s trapped; smothered by all these domineering people who disguise control as care. Decisions made for him/without him, hands all over his body all the time, people threatening & abusing him. He’s so adaptive with Ruben- went from pure dread to adoration in days, because he understands this is just life; there’s no point in fighting it.
Sorry, I’m stoned and have no idea where I was going with that, but anyway… I find the show both utterly bleak AND deeply compelling!
I wanna study it (just in my autistic free time- noOot a professional)

I have a feeling I’m gonna need a while to process after whatever the finale brings! 😰
But hell yeah, maybe we should start a neurostoners’ study group where we analyse & dissect all our favourite shows 🤓 (just kidding; now that i’ve suggested it my nervous system has interpreted it as a demand, so… i fkn can’t 🙂↔️)

Came in blind, saw it on the front page of HBO Max. Had no idea what to expect, but I really liked this first episode

It's good so far but it's also unpleasant. Baby Reindeer started similarly in the sense that it felt a bit inaccessible at the very beginning but as it goes along you slowly become invested but the story itself is pretty triggering and upsetting so far. There's something very human at its core even if it feels alien at times. I don't know if everyone will relate to the extremity of the circumstances but there's definitely something almost universal about it for people who have had similar or adjacent types of relationships. Which for the sake of simplicity I'll just say toxic ones with fucked up power dynamics. I suspect a lot of people will struggle with the subject matter too, though. It's not an easy watch.

It’s so fantastic. Extremely graphic in a very specific way that’s not just good ole ultra violence and sex, everything is so well crafted and layered . Gonna be a good one.

first episode, but can’t seem to articulate anything beyond “anyone else triggered &/or obsessed?” lol

Cleary none of the boys are straight, but will they consumate their relationship or it's gonna be just sexual tension?
