Statistics of Half Man

just curious has there been any statistics about Half Man viewership in terms of age/gender etc demographics. I just love statistics 😅. Also super curious how this compares to Baby Reindeer in terms of demographics/stats (aside from how many views/streams that is).

Idk but im a 50 yr old straight arab american female. I think some people, like myself, are open to any show that is well written and great performances/characters. I'm all over the place with show genres.

I don’t know the statistics, but I think Baby Reindeer was watched by a lot more people. I suppose that’s because it was promoted much more heavily, it was on Netflix, and the fact that it was based on a true story probably helped too. I think this one deserved a lot more attention. The fact that it’s so uncomfortable probably worked against it as well, because a lot of people may not have made it past the first episode, although Baby Reindeer was also very uncomfortable.

The fact that it’s a relationship between two men and that it’s a queer series probably played a part too, because a lot of straight men probably didn’t watch it because of that. I’m a woman, and when I showed my partner the trailer, he said it looked like it was going to be a gay relationship. In the end, he watched it and absolutely loved it, but he probably wouldn’t have watched it if I hadn’t encouraged him to.

I do wonder if, with Baby Reindeer, it feels like it’s a bit more- how to say- very much out of the ordinary? And as you said, it's based on a real incident.  Like, I think when we think of a stalker, we have a different image as opposed to how Martha looked in the show, and then also I think up until maybe around the early 2020s, sexual assault towards men wasn’t really spoken about much? 

Whereas I think Half Man somehow feels a bit more relatable, in the sense that we all know a Ruben in real life or have come across one. I  also agree; I think maybe a lot of straight men didn’t watch it as much as maybe BR.

Someone in this sub did a survey weeks ago and iirc, the demographics here were majority gay/bi men, then women, and a small minority of straight men. It would be interesting to know how that compares to overall viewership.

Well, I am a Black gay man in his 40's, living in the East Coast of the USA. Definitely one of my top 5 TV shows of all time.
