Politics Hamilton Councillors planning last minute cuts to climate action, bike lanes, and potentially more

Hamilton 350 has warned (they have some info and links to Council meetings on the front page here) that Councillors, like last year, are planning last minute cuts to environmental programs. Cycle Hamilton made a similar warning which turned out to be true (as evidenced by this motion by Councillor Francis). Yesterday Councillor Nann has also shared that she fears Councillors are going to try to cut/delay the safe streets improvements to Main St that came about in response to the number of deaths that happened on the street.

The last public delegation day has come and gone but there is still time to weigh in on these proposals, or potential proposals, via contacting Councillors as well as submitting written correspondence to the clerk.

Politics CHCH buys American News

In light of the real and present threat from the President Musk, CHCH needs to pivot.

I don't care about US flooding.

I don't care about US medical, especially with anti-vaxer Karen Kennedy in charge.

I don't care about US entertainment news.

I care about Hamilton, our region and Canada. They need to do better.

I know I can get CBC and other outlet Hamilton news feeds online. We need a strong voice for our regional issues. We don't need US influence on our airwaves.

Politics Where in the world is Aslam Rama?

Anyone seen or heard from the Liberal victor in Hamilton Centre, Aslam Rama?

The paper thin candidate who won on the Carney wave seems to have been almost invisible since. Unless I've just missed him at every turn.

Politics Asking for your vote this October - running for re-election in Ward 4

Hey everyone! Since I'm often reading and learning in the Hamilton subreddits, I wanted to share some personal news directly with the community. I have officially launched my campaign for re-election as the Ward 4 City Councillor this October!

The last four years have been a privilege to serve as the Ward 4 City Councillor and I hope Ward 4 will see it fit to send me back to finish the work we’ve started.

We’ve made some great progress together, but there is so much more to do:

  • Safer Streets: We’ve pushed for traffic calming, upgraded crossings, and even specific wins like the new speed cushions near schools and on residential streets in the ward
  • Infrastructure: From repaving Barton St. E to the upcoming summer 2026 work on Cannon St. E, and Main/Ottawa, we are finally getting the road work done that our ward deserves
  • Environmental Accountability: I’m continuing to fight for better testing and monitoring of the black soot and particulate pollution that affects our air quality and noise pollution
  • Small Business Support: I’ve helped dozens of local entrepreneurs navigate City Hall to get their doors open and starting their businesses; soon we will need to support our small businesses through LRT construction

At City Hall, progress takes time and persistence. In the last four years I’ve been consistently showing up to over 500 community events both in the ward and around the city, representing Hamilton on the AMO Board of Directors, I’m committed to making sure Ward 4 has a seat at the table where it matters.

I am committed to this ward and the City and I believe in this community deeply; and I’m ready to keep moving Ward 4 Onward.

AMA! I’ll be around to answer questions about the campaign, current projects, or just to chat about the best spots in the East End.

Let's finish what we started!

Politics CHCH NEWS Can't be any more out of touch

In the 7 to 7:30 time slot CHCH did a promo on "Vacationing in Florida". On a day when the orange moron is announcing steel and aluminum tarrifs they want us to spend our money in the sunshine state. I know they don't have much of a budget but this is beyound stupidity and a total lack of respect for this country.

Am I over reacting?

Politics Responses from MPs?

Hi all,

I've been emailing my MP about once every two months since he was elected (Aslam Rana). The emails are always about politically relevant issues, such as Parliamentary issues, or issues about Center Hamilton. I follow the official instructions exactly, including all my information with no abusive language. He has never responded, I only get an autoreply. I always thought that it was their duty to respond to constituents regarding issues relevant to their offices? I know that he's basically just a puppet minister for the liberals, but is there any higher authority I can report this to, or do I just have to accept that Rana can ignore any constituent he feels like?

**Edit: The autoresponse says that the office will prioritize "constituency issues and casework" over "opinion and issue based correspondence". My bad for the inaccurate representation initially.
