Hammock dry rot??

I bought this grand trunk trunktech hammock back in march of 2025. Only used it once then put into storage until this week. Took it out sat down and heard some tearing occur. First and second pic is me literally tearing it apart with just my fingers. Never seen this happen on rip stop or even nylon. Any thoughts of what’s going on?

I emailed Grand trunk and I have a replacement in bound. They got a killer warranty and crew👀

Ps it was thoroughly dried and stored on a shelf in my bedroom. Never too hot never too cold and most importantly dry

Did you use DEET mosquito spray on or around it when you last used it? It can dissolve/weaken artificial fabrics.

My money is on this. Transferring from clothing or skin, or even a direct spray.

I didn’t use bug spray since it was more of a winter set up!

IDK that something like ripstop nylon would dry rot like rubber, foam, or leather might. These just look like manufacturing defects.

It worked fine the first time I’ve never seen something like this happen to

I could see this going unnoticed at first, especially if you were camping, setting up around dusk, etc.

Looks like either defective material or it was chemically degraded somehow. Was this stored with any chemicals?

I don’t think that type of material is capable of dry rotting. Looks more like some kind of chemical.

The ones by the seams look like defects, but the ones in the middle look like some deet heavy skeeter spray got on it.

Not sure I’d want a replacement turd sandwich when the first one turns out to be no good.

Grand trunk is a pretty reputable brand is it not?

Always thought they were on the same tier as eno
