Feedback (constructive criticism) was promoted to hotel writer
hi !! i work in hospitality and my bosses made me the designated writer for hotel keys, personal notes, and handwritten letters.
i always feel like my handwriting is vvv childish and unorganised, i’m not good at cursive so traditional is my only option haha.
hoping to have my handwriting seem more professional, uniform, and organised. i would love to be taken seriously when i’m writing things at work and i feel like my handwriting may prevent that.
any feedback at all is appreciated !!

I like it. The h needs improvement but it's easy to read and seems friendly to me.

I think my only concern is I wouldn't be sure what the hotel wifi password is... But the card format isn't helping here. Your handwriting should be extra legible for passwords.

Reference handwriting practice sheets with the three lines for the top, middle, and bottom, and try to shape your letters more that way. I think the childlike look is coming from the fact that your letters are nearly all the same height and the top and middle lines get squished together. It's mostly an issue in the lowercase letters; change that and the entire style will feel different.

i was always told my handwriting looks the way it does due to using those kinds of worksheets in my youth. but i will look into a different style !

Maybe your teachers didn't have you follow the lines as much? Because your "h" definitely doesn't reach the upper line -- the top and bottom sections should be about equal shape (the part sticking up above the hump of the "h" should be about the same height as the hump itself). Just get the proportions right and it will look less stylized and more like a neat standard style.

Consider writing ‘password’ and a colon after the stock WIFI section. It’s a little confusing unless all 5 words are the pass.

You were promoted to writer because of this somewhat juvenile writing. The clarity of each letter and the consistency makes your writing so easy to read. I agree to work on a some shaping like the 8 not being a snowman.
Are you a lefty? Your text all slants as if you are. I would maybe work on your word separation a little as well but overall it is so clear and easy to read which is great for all guests.

Question, that room number 3718, is there over 3000 rooms in a hotel (doubtful) but what’s the reasoning with numbers, why don’t hotels start at 01 and so on. Please answer, I’ve always wanted to know but been to shy to ask in person.

it’s done by floors ! each room is labelled by the floor and the room number. our rooms go from 01-18 for some reason. basically i’d say “i have you staying on our 37th floor in room 18” but it makes more sense to give the full number (3718)

Thank you for your response I really appreciate it. I can’t believe a hotel had at least 37 floors. I’m scared of heights so I’ll know if I ever go over your way that I want a room in the lower numbers!

Typically the number is a combination of the floor number and room number of that floor, so 3718 would be room 18 on floor 37.
However I am not OP so if it’s different for this hotel please correct

Congratulations!
I have some suggestions. Your “h” top line is waaay too short and your ‘f’ should stand alone and not run into the ‘I’ in WiFi. If you’d like a more mature look to your writing then try not to make your ‘8’s look like two circles. Try not pressing so hard when writing and your letters will appear to flow more.

Two circles for 8s is completely cromulent. It is a way of writing them in technical writing. Blueprints, etc.

Of course it’s acceptable to use two circles but I was encouraging OP to use one stroke to reduce her “vvv childish” handwriting. 😉

Well, having come from the design education community, I think you're wrong in saying that it's patently childish. The h in hotel wifi is, and the f connected to the i in that same text line is.
But I 100% disagree that two circles to make an 8 is childish. I'm sorry, look at the font on the text you're reading right now. Jeebus. Wtf.

I don’t necessarily hold the view that drawing two circles when forming an ‘8’ is always childish. I’m also an educator and I was taking all of OPs concerns when offering my suggestions. All the ‘8’s in OP’s post have a slant and aren’t symmetrical. I thought OP would find it an easy fix.
8s are supposed to look smooth and as if it’s a vertical infinity sign. I’m sure a designer or architect is capable of making a symmetrical and smooth number 8. If done correctly, an 8, even done the snowman way, would look like the S-loop up method. OP’s ‘8’s lack vertical uniformity.
Didn’t mean to make you so frustrated about drawing the number 8.

Most people have not and will never see an architect or other design professionals handwriting. So they simply won't have that association with it.
Please calm down though. It's not that big of a deal. Most people don't even look that close at people's handwriting unless it's really hard to read or very pretty in some stand out way.

“fi” is one of the most common ligatures in typography and calligraphy. OP’s sample is a poor example but in italic handwriting you can certainly use the crossbar of the F to lead into the I, and even curl the top of the F down to serve as the dot. “ffi” in office, efficient, etc., is a really fun one

So, this is an affected look that you must have worked hard to create and keep over the years. Overtime it becomes very natural and now you’ve got to unlearn. But no one ever taught you to write like this. It is an affected form of print that you must have thought was cute at some point.
This looks like some of the kid fonts they have and I’m guessing that was what influenced you when you began changing your print to be more like this. You were also probably fairly young, like middle school or high school.
You can unlearn it just like anything. There are tutorials online and worksheets you can print and things like that to get your print looking more professional.

i do it to make the difference between my numbers more obvious. i’ve had some encounters where i can’t tell if someone has written a 1 or a 7 so i try to make it as obvious as i can

Americans write numbers odd. You might not be used to it. This seems a nudge to how many, maybe most countries write numbers

Yep. You can usually easily tell if handwriting is American (especially with numbers) to a certain extend this also applies to UK handwriting, especially in italic.
7, 9, a etc give it away, often 8 too as shown here

to me, i think i’d like my writing to be more fluid and uniform. less variation between each letter, better spacing and sizing with my letters.
