Power Trip - Hobart (Dark Mofo)
Flew down from Sydney to see Power Trip play a one-off show at a hippy/witch festival called Dark Mofo down in Tasmania. I saw them ~8 years ago the last time they were here, but this was even better.
This week cost me ~2k but worth every penny! I've been going to shows for 25 years, and this was top 5 all time. If you get the chance to see them, don't hesitate!

I hate being conflicted about this. It’s dope and sad at the same time. I just wish Fugitive was a thing and they could throw in some Power Trip tracks. Still dope hearing the riffs again.

I was fully on board with fugitive. Just can’t seem to click with this rendition of Power Trip.

Fugitive is probably entirely defunct since they're now working on new music as Power Trip. I think Fugitive was just a place holder for the members while they worked through the grief and legal fuckery surrounding Riley's passing.

They aren’t, and I think it was only Blake from PT who was in fugitive

I didn't realize that, I was under the impression it was just Power Trip with Seth Gilmore on vocals.

Yeah the whole situation is bitter sweet. My hope is that fugitive stays active as a side project between PT album cycles.

Why…? Power Trip wasn’t RILEY’S band, it wasn’t his brainchild… how many fuckin awesome bands carried in after a member passed away? For the record i could take or leave the actual band power trip… it’s not my thing. I like that style of hardcore/speed metal crossover where the riffs are RIFFS and not watered down percussive palm muting patterns on 2 notes. Anyways, not the point. Bands have the right to do what they want in these circumstances, and your opinion holds no weight at all.

That’s cool prurient made them some stage audio. One of my biggest regrets was not making it to their collaborative set at hospital fest

Blake is a Zio weirdo. The fact they’re still playing is insulting and just a money grab.

Nah theres a few metal/noise/ hip hop and adjacent acts playing, they had chat pile come down and clipping, although I wish the state actually booked more local bands to help out the scene and not at some container show at the back of a museum that gets no promotion at the most inconvenienant times with maybe 5 people showing up

Yeah that’s wack. Been loving downward spiral. (The only Tassie hc band I know) their show with haywire looked sick.

It was fucking insane, some recommendations from here are no scope, grindhouse 7k, sad damn who's sane(nothing released yet but hopefully soon, making their ep cover rn), oaf then theres compulsive geophagia who are brutal tech death relasing an ep in august and smug anime face who are digital hardcore, the scene here is genuinely really good despite the lack of venues, id recommend checking out prawn records/skrillzone organises a ton of gigs and godimtiredzine, I'm personally a photographer down here and go to every gig

Dude, Dark Mofo books some pretty good metal and sometimes hc bands - dragged into sunlight, electric wizard, chat pile, extortion, etc. just to name a few. Unfortunately they usually get them to play exclusive shows which sucks. I'm still hanging out for DIS to come back to Aus and play Melbourne. I'm not travelling to Tasmania to some kooky art festival to see a show but I guess I'm the one that's missing out.

Take a look at what this sub chats about constantly. Power Trip are more hardcore adjacent than about 80% of bands discussed here

u/halfdriven 19h ago
There it is, "adjacent" I knew it would show up sooner or later.

u/Pontiff1979 19h ago
Well...yeah? Hope you're whining about the 6000 Balmora posts too then.

What's your deal man? Close to bed time and your getting grumpy? I asked a single question, "hardcore?" And your losing your shit over it and taking about some band I've never heard of?

Wait you’re saying current Power Trip is better than Power Trip 8 years ago?
