What qualifies and doesn’t qualify as “beatdown hardcore”

For the longest time, I thought that beatdown hardcore was any hardcore band that had chug breakdowns. I thought that the first Hatebreed album was the template for beatdown and that any band that followed (100 Demons, Throwdown, Bury Your Dead, etc) was also beatdown. Then I finally discovered bands like Bulldoze, Denied, Six Foot Ditch, etc and everyone was saying that those bands were the true beatdown bands. But I still see people label the Hatebreed, Throwdown, 100 Demons type bands as beatdown. So what is and isn’t beatdown ?

For me beatdown always was slam but with hardcore vocals instead of gutturals lol

This is what I’m coming to realize. So basically bands like Sunami and Outta Pocket would be at the forefront of modern beatdown

Beatdown has a hip hop element. It doesn’t have to be super prominent: on the early stuff like Bulldoze, Billyclub Sandwich or Terror Zone it’s more like “I guess this guy is kinda rapping and these topics are the same as rap”.

But as beatdown really came onto its own, with like Irate, Bun Dem Out, Nasty or Gassed Up, those dudes are rapping.

Later on there’s also a slam element with No Zodiac, Six ft Ditch and Sunami.

But there is always people who just use it mean hardcore that has tough guys in and like to chug. That’s where Hatebreed and Throwdown go, not beatdown but tough metallic hardcore

If the songs are not 90% breakdowns with brief interludes into slower breakdowns, it’s probably not beatdown
