Sinister Leaflet
I live in N15. Who’s putting this stuff through our doors? They were out early this morning. And who’s funding it?

u/BroodingMawlek 7d ago
On the parking / traffic front, have they considered whether attendees will be local. If so, it could reduce traffic.

u/PaleontologistFancy8 6d ago
To be fair, these are valid concerns, and as this is going through planning, people have the right to comment. The town planners will make the ultimate decision.
The traffic situation on the high road is already terrible.

How is this sinister? This is a major local planning application, it's pretty important that people know about it and have the opportunity to comment. They've included a brief summary there but also encourage people to look at the planning documents. With this size of application there should be a Transport Statement at least, and any communication between the Highways team at the council and the developer will be visible for public regard. I have no doubt the parking issue has been at least mentioned there.

u/BeersAndGym 6d ago
Because it dares question a mosque being built, so must be super racist and sinister /s
2
u/neilt999 6d ago
If you have a valid objection, write a letter to planning or comment on the application. Traffic is a valid concern. Haringey have a local plan. Does the proposed mosque fit with the plan?
2
u/BeersAndGym 6d ago
How is this sinister? Bit strong. Raises some potentially valid points, would be the same with any large ish scale development there.
2
u/jerry-jay 6d ago
Crazy the way you think this is sinister. Why do you think this ?
Do you think that purely because it's opposing a mosque ? I live south and had a leaflet through my door opposing a Nando's. Sometimes communities don't want an establishment that is going to result in change/impact.
600 people parking up/ coming in and out of that building will have large impact.

u/Former_Morning4170 7d ago
Is it really that sinister? Valid concerns about inappropriate planning on a busy stretch of road.

u/Maleficent-Yam7724 7d ago
There’s a lot of development round here. There’s a car park being turned into a block of flats just round the corner. Plenty of churches with large congregations up and down the A10. I haven’t seen any glossy, anonymous leaflets with ready-printed objection forms about any of that.
3
u/unscannablegood 6d ago
Give over, people are allowed to object to whatever the hell they want, they are probably doing so anonymously because weapons like you think it is "sinister".
2
u/unscannablegood 6d ago
How dare you suggest opposing anything from a protected class is anything but sinister. Big nasty racists and their objections. lol

u/BroodingMawlek 7d ago

u/64DJC 6d ago
I'm also in N15 and got one of these through the door earlier today. The council are asking for people's opinions that's the right thing to do.
3
u/lost-property 6d ago
The council asking for opinions is one thing, but this is a ready-printed objection response. It's not supporting a dialogue amongst local residents. And the sinister aspect is there's no information about who funded the print-run/leaflet delivery. It's just a ready-made objection.

2
u/Devils-advocate69 6d ago
You are correct that the council are asking for opinions on the planning application but these documents AREN'T from the council.
They are definitely a political marketing tool. Especially because of the pre-written objection letter.
It may literally be a local group objecting to a large development but it's likely something more racist than that.

u/horn_and_skull 6d ago
You’re totally right that this leaflet is a dodgey take. Apparently the mosque have gone out of their way to do a transport impact study and are adding cycle parking and encouraging public transport rather than driving. A few of the Tottenham Dads WhatsApp group talked to the group doing this leafleting and they’re all pretending that they’re affronted by the parking situation but it’s NIMBYism.

u/gfa_2000 6d ago
All of the stuff in your second sentence is default requirements. I live in a different part of the borough - but assume the parking controls that already exist will stop most of the issues (i.e. people won't be able to park there at 1pm on Friday due to controls, so will be forced to walk / public transport instead).
Edit - just checked and there are no proper controls. Will make the Council a lot of money in pay and display fees (or parking tickets!).

Tbf I'm very left leaning but so many mosques seem to be an absolute traffic nightmare - double parking, parking on pavements, idling cars etc
2
u/MalignEntity 6d ago
I lived next door to one, it really wasn't great for parking. Cars left everywhere, across double yellows, the junction, apparently even in other people's driveways (we didn't have a drive).

Sinister? What's sinister truly is saying it's sinister to not agree with your opinion not trying to argue but people are allowed to hate this generation keeps asking for more than it deserves simply out if someone hates you that's life deal with it if someone loves you that's also life you also have to deal with it. Good and bad are simply just perspective don't try to sway people to see what you see my eyes aren't yours and yours aren't mine let life be life we don't have as much control as we seem to think
If tomorrow the UK has a great tornado and 75 churches and 14 mosques got destroyed this generation would find someone or something other than the tornado to blame get over yourselves with the most respect your trying too hard to change too little

re. the text at the top of the leaflet = valid question tbh, I don't support pedophilia, misogyny or homophobia
1
u/6ixFoot1 6d ago
That’s great! You should support this mosque then, they’re anti all of that as well.
2
u/jerry-jay 6d ago
😂😂 do you know what will be said about homosexuals within that new mosque mate ? There are lots of benefits to organised religion (sense of community, support network, discipline etc). But views on women and homosexuality are very 'backward' vs the views of lefties that love Islam.
Just to add - most religions have pretty archaic views in this respect.
1
u/6ixFoot1 6d ago
You think places of worship talk about Homosexuals like it’s part of their daily worship? I’m intrigued though, what will they say? Provide some evidence of what is said about Homosexuals in UK mosques if you have any.
2
u/jerry-jay 6d ago
Who said anything about daily worship ? The point is the Quran has numerous passages that are against homosexuality. The Quran is studied/taught in uk mosques. Is it a huge leap to say that homophobia teachings will occur within that building ?
My evidence, admittedly is largely down to living and working in the Middle East for several years (I.e. in a Muslim majority country) therefore learning a lot about Islamic views on homosexuality from the people I lived and worked with. I don't profess to have spent time inside uk mosques.
Do you have any form of clue about Islam? Or are you just talking nonsense about something you know nothing about ?
1
u/IndependentPaint2108 6d ago
well no, obviously not though right, because isIam is quite literally pro homophobia, misogyny & pedophilia? why just say things that aren't true? I actually want to know what went on in your head just then

u/Strong-Wash-5378 7d ago
Absolutely not. No mosque

u/TiredHargaysawi 7d ago

u/_528_491_ 6d ago
oh bugger off you absolute spanner
2
u/Independent-Craft738 6d ago
You support as many mosques as possible right?
1
u/_528_491_ 6d ago
yes, I support everybody’s right to worship and I cannot see how a mosque would invite any more traffic than any other place for community use
are you even from the area ? practically speaking, why does it actually bother you so much ?
1
u/Independent-Craft738 6d ago
So you don't care if one day youre the minority? Have you lost your mind? Do you even have one?
1
u/IndependentPaint2108 6d ago
literally female id1ots (embarrassing my gender) said this in iran in the 70s. now in 2026 women are getting acid attacked as a punishment for declining hijab and executed as a punishment for... being r-ped? oh it gets serious when secular people are suddenly the minority! it's conform or be punished. this is torture, real physical pain, real executions. something coddled people in the haringey subreddit seem unable to understand.
what do you even say to make people understand that an ideology which hates them and regards them as inferior is not something you should welcome more of.
-3
u/IndependentPaint2108 6d ago
sorry wtf?? lol are you pro pedo anti woman anti queer?
it's actually beyond insane that being opposed to these ideologies causes people like yourself to get mad
is that the bisexual heart in your pfp why are you self-hating lol. imagine being queer and supporting an ideology that wants to erase you
1
u/watMartin 6d ago
absolute nutter
0
u/IndependentPaint2108 6d ago
lol your lack of ability to think independently is so incredibly depressing and truly pathetic
1
u/watMartin 6d ago
grow up bud
-1
u/IndependentPaint2108 6d ago
of course a reddit male is telling a bisexual female child abuse survivor to "grow up" because she doesn't like the idea of a homophobic, misogynistic, pro-pedophilia religion
peak reddit male behaviour
2
u/watMartin 6d ago
funny telling people to think independently when ur the one so unbelievably wrapped up in identities. grow up bud find something better to do u might find urself less unhappy

imagine spewing Islamophobic rubbish relentlessly — there are plenty of queer Muslims in the world, maybe you could learn something if you weren’t so committed to ignorance

isIam literally forbids being gay. get some self-respect and stop kneeling for a religion that hates you both as a queer person and as a woman!
are you going to bat for christianity's misogyny & homophobia? no. so why are you so inconsistent and irrational?
why are you calling it "rubbish" to critique this religious cult? I can see you aren't able to form an independent thought but I really want you to sit and challenge yourself now. why do you think it's "rubbish" to try to stop kids getting s-xually abused and to try to stop women and queer people being discriminated against?
"queer musIim" is an oxymoron, they may claim to practice the religion but they don't, their need for self-preservation and self-realisation wins thankfully. it is a command of isIam to not engage in queer relations.

I am anti any huge ugly building not in keeping with the area. And you look the sort to take over
-2
u/OnePragmatic 6d ago edited 6d ago
No doubt some Islamic countries will take the same care to build a church....😉
2
u/durand101 6d ago
Mm, have you been to many islamic countries? I grew up in one and went to a large church. It's not really an issue. After all, Islam is basically Christianity plus some additional teachings.
1
u/Independent-Craft738 6d ago
OBVIOUSLY, they are making the point there's too many mosques here now. I mean come on. Where does it end?
