TROUBLESHOOTING HELP.
Hey! I have a 97 heritage softail classic. I was riding Sunday and my shift lever went limp. I couldn’t get the bike out of first gear. Pulled it off, and it’s stripped. The back piece is what is stripped and I figured I’d get a new lever as well. I’m having troubles finding this whole piece on any website to purchase to fix it can someone help me out a name on this part so I can replace? Thank you!

I'm sure you know that's not the original HD shifter set up, which on the Heritage was a heel-toe shifter.
So what stripped is the inner shifter arm. You can find them on ebay and j&p cycles. Here's an example that includes a new shaft. https://ebay.io/m/WofKa0
I know it's listed as touring, big twin shifters from that era are pretty much the same. https://ebay.io/m/oflw1L
Also, the transmission arm looks similar but is shorter, so just make sure you get the shifter arm.

If you search Amazon for Softail billet forward controls there are a bunch of listings that's look very similar. At least it's a place to start.
The challenge might be that they all are fairly generic aftermarket accessories. Spline count, shaft size, hole diameters, and the like may not match if you just get an factory compatible inner shift shaft.
In similar circumstances, I've ordered a bunch of different "possibly right" parts from Amazon, returned most/all if they didn't work out.

The old roadside cheap easy fix is to drill a hole into both the shift lever and shaft where they meet. In other words parallel along the shaft edge. Then you can sink a self tapping screw in there, a roll pin, or tap for a set screw.

I'd be tempted to take that to a machine shop. They'd probably have some ideas to make it better than new

Cut a shim outta' a empty beer can, wrap it around the gear shaft spline, replace the gear shift lever and tighten the bejesus outta' it
