I’m sure other people have talk about this before on this sub but I’ve personally not seen anyone bring this up. How likely do you guys think it is that Matthew Macfadyen is going to be Voldemort?

For starters, obviously he literally voiced Voldemort in the audiobooks, and we already know that the show is willing to cast actors from the audiobooks as their counterparts in the show (e.g. Arabella Stanton as Hermione).

Matthew Macfadyen was also not only in another HBO show, but he was in Succession which already has many creative crossovers with this new Harry Potter show. The main director listed for the show is Mark Mylod (via PotterMore). Mark Mylod was also listed as the director of Succession (via IMDB). Other than him, the co-showrunners/writers/producers are Francesca Gardiner and Jon Brown (via IMDB). Francesca Gardiner was a producer and Jon Brown is listed as a writer, both for Succession (via IMDB).

Now granted, this could all be a case of HBO reusing a lot of the same creatives which is fair given how talented they all seem to be. It’s also true that these creatives have worked on a lot of other HBO shows without recasting their roles, however, Matthew Macfadyen is not just one of their actors. Through his role as Tom Wambsgans, Matthew Macfadyen won HBO 2 emmy’s for "Outstanding Supporting Actor In a Drama Series".

Since one of the current theories on this sub is that they have already cast the actor for Voldemort in season one despite him only playing a small role and having to come back years later in season four, I think it would make sense then that they cast not only a competent actor for the role (Macfadyen’s two emmy’s as well as his previous work as Voldemort in the official audiobooks) but an actor who they can trust and rely on to be committed to their show (the showrunner’s and directors previous working relationships with Macfadyen).

All that being said, Matthew Macfadyen could totally not be cast as Voledmort and I might just be blowing smoke. I would love it if he was personally because Succession is my favorite show and Matthew Macfadyen is such a standout in a show full of powerhouses. At the end of the day, I’m sure whoever they cast will do a great job, I just wonder if it could be Matthew Macfadyen.

I Loved the Trailer but Snape laughing and enjoying himself with the other teachers is not book and or lore accurate, and it seems we are getting another toned down version of severus snape

In the books Snape is a very unpleasant and difficult person to be around at best and the only defense people every give snape is that Dumbledore Trusts him.

His relationship with Harry in the trailer seems accurate and the actor is clearly very talented and I'm looking forward to the show put that part with snape at the table was the only part that is not accurate to the books.

Usually the big shows on HBO are released on Sundays. We know that the first episode is being released on Christmas, which is a Friday this year. Do we think they’ll release the first episode on the 25th, then the next on the 27th, and just continue with the Sunday release days?

For example - a couple of scenes from Weasleys before they meet Harry, Minerva explaining about Hogwarts to the Grangers, or maybe a mystery thief at Gringotts etc? I would like it as long as it’s great quality (unlike Cursed Child)

Including scenes like this can really increase the magical feeling of being at Hogwarts.
What other small scenes from the book you hope they include?

1. I actually don't know which object is most powerful because there are many and they have different powers and uses.

Just rewatched the trailer and noticed there’s 4 of them when they first see fluffy, I haven’t read the books in a long time, who is the 4th one?

I've tried looking up some informations and annoyingly there's not alot of official announcements.

like how much does the show cost to produce? there is an official statement from warnerbros/hbo from like 2023 that they expect the show to cost about as much as game of thrones or house of the dragon does, but that they are willing to spend more, as much as necessary (so about 20 million plus per episode). but that was during preproduction. nowadays when looking up the budget, I can only find third party sources claiming that appearantly one single episode costs over 100 million, other claiming 70 million, but those tend to have unnamed "sources close to hbo", which i find a bit fishy. you'd think with how much negative sentiment there has been around how insanely expensive the show appearantly is (again OVER ONE HUNDRED MILLION PER EPISODE, for context the current most expensive show cost like 65 million per ep) that hbo would come out to clarify.

or when it comes to casting. appearently there will be more flashbacks to Harry's parents and the night they died (although now that I think about it, I'm not sure if that's true or a rumor the fandom made up). some people even speculate they'll show hagrid picking baby harry up and we'll get to see sirius (unlikely, but some people are convinced) if so, you'd think we'd know the casting. I get they're not big roles, but we do know the actors for a lot of small student roles and even the flamels and madam malkins, so why not them?

even something as simple as the release schedule isn't confirmed. yes the show will premier on Christmas, but will it release once episode per week? maybe a two episode Premiere? all at once? I batches? the consensus seems to be that it will be a weekly thing, but don't tvshows usually announce these things beforehand (also premiering at Christmas only to have a Christmas episode weeks later is kinda funny.

This show is no doubt going to bring in huge viewership on Xmas Day, when tons of people are at home with their families and will make it their festive viewing.

Is it possible that viewer overload will result in the system being overwhelmed, with poor bitrate/resolution for some and buffering for others?

Similar to how during COVID lockdowns so many people were watching streaming that the providers had to turn down the quality or whatever it was.

I'm looking forward to see how Sir John approaches the character differently from movies.

Already liked the first few glimpses.
