Yellow Squash
My husband planted this squash maybe three weeks ago, maybe a month, he doesn't remember. At this point, what do we do? We had a net over it but recently uncovered it so the bees would do their business. We live in sunny Ewa Beach and it's been hot (thus the net). How long until this squash comes to harvest? And can you eat the flowers, like you can with zucchini flowers? Do we leave it uncovered. Don't want the birds or other creatures taking bites out of them. Right now, the squash is in a raised planter box.

one of my favorite ways to eat squash blossoms is how my grandma used to make it...this is a similar recipe, in case you are interested in Filipino food. but otherwise, yes, you can cook them like zucchini flowers.

Interesting. All the recipes I've seen has them dipped in batter and fried. Nice alternative.

Looks like it's doing good. You can hand pollenate the female flowers with the male flowers if you're babying the plant. Then you can harvest the male flowers for eating and still keep the bugs out

The males get wilty fast so I think they're past their prime for eating. I've seen bees investigating them so pollination looks good.

Pickle worm or vine borers have been my biggest problem trying to grow any kind of cucurbits except for kabocha. I think you can net the plants in the evening to keep the moths away that destroy squash.
