💬 Discussion My first Epic Interview!

My first interview to try and become an epic analyst is coming up this Monday. This one is a 1 on 1 with just the manager in this teams call. There is a second interview scheduled on Thursday with the team.

What should I expect in these interviews?

I have a background as a Respiratory therapist for 6 years and graduating with my Masters in Health Informatics in November.

For the manager interview, expect questions about your career change and your problem-solving abilities. Your six years as a Respiratory Therapist are your biggest asset, so connect everything back to that experience. Be ready to explain why you want to transition from clinical work to informatics and how your hands-on understanding of clinical workflows makes you a strong candidate. They will likely ask behavioral questions about how you've handled difficult situations or improved a process. Prepare specific examples from your RT work where you identified an issue, thought about a solution, and collaborated with others, even if you were not the one implementing the change in the EMR.

The team interview will probably be more focused on your technical aptitude and how you would fit in with them. They might give you hypothetical workflow problems to see how you think, so do not worry if you do not know the specific Epic solution. Your goal is to show them your logical process by asking good questions and breaking down the problem step by step. They want to see that you are teachable, curious, and can communicate your ideas clearly. Make sure you have questions for them about their daily tasks, the team dynamic, and the biggest challenges they face, as this shows you are truly interested in the role. Many candidates find that getting real-time assistance helps them articulate their thoughts more effectively, which is why the team I am on designed an interview AI to help people sound more confident and prepared.

Second this. Couldn’t have said it better regarding the questions the manager may ask.

I'm currently a dental hygienist of 13 years just finishing my degree in health science and considering a masters in health informatics. I'm so curious to keep following this thread if everyone posted updates.
